Community Watch – Matchweek 13

Matchweek 12 had some really tight games with Salahmon Islands managing to stop Mozampique and providing other teams with a good opportunity to occupy the first position in the table. There were some really close finishes like Bolivia Giroud’s 3 point victory over Gaboniadini and Matagascar’s 13 point win over
Reussia.

Matchweek 12 awards

Congratulations to Speedyboyzz on winning the manager of the week award and a big congratulations to our tournament’s costliest player Greenwind101mill on his excellent score of 100. Unsurprisingly this site moderator is our player of the week.

Having beaten the Mozzies by not the most entirely honourable of methods, including breaking themselves out of prison, the Salahmon Islands team needed to hot foot it out of Mozampique in order to avoid ending up back in the slammer. But with police checking all routes out of the country, exiting was not so easy especially with the conspicuous Green Windmill in tow! As always one of Boris’ team mates stepped up to the plate to get them out of trouble. Apparently Knuckles had spent his youth living with the Cirque Magique, a travelling Balegium circus, that happened to be travelling through Mozampique at that very moment. The circus owner was not too convinced about taking on a new act but once he saw the Green Windmill he was sold, and Boris and his crew were now an official circus act. This would all work out very well indeed, as after two more performances, the circus was flying back home to perform as the warm up act in the Balegium National Stadium, before the Balegium national team took on the….Salahmon Islands. All the islanders had to do was pass themselves off as a professional circus act until the match was about to kick off.

Of course Boris was in his element, as the strong man, while rjcv177, Sune and Swanmore made a great three-man clown act. Knuckles, dressed up in his sparkly leotard, was utterly awesome as the trapeze artist, and received bouquets and encores after every performance, and even a marriage proposal from a tall, muscular man with a thick moustache, who clearly had failed to see through the disguise. However, the act that had taken the country by storm was Lord and Torreslove’s Magic Show, during which they made both unitednations and the Pep Revolution vanish completely from the stage in spectacular fashion. “You know what?,” sighed Boris, as he and the entire circus crew made their way onto the Balegium bound aeroplane, “I am actually going to miss Mozampique, even though they did try and lock us up for eternity.” Now, however, Boris had to bring the team back to earth fast. The match against Balegium was now just days away, and they had not trained properly for more than a week. “Look guys,” he announces, “we’re going to have to ask to leave the circus when we touch down. The Balegiums are a very good team and we need to get some practice in. Knuckles, can you have a word with the Circus owner? What was his name again?”. “The owner? His name is Speedyboyzz, he’s a lovely chap,” swoons Knuckles. Boris furrowed his brow, “Hmmm, I’m sure I have heard that name somewhere before?....”

Despite all his efforts to locate the owner after touch down, Boris and his crew ended up being bundled onto the coach from the airport with the rest of the circus, and arrived at the Balegium National Stadium shortly after. Knuckles, who had clearly rediscovered a lost love for performance, begged and begged Boris to let them have one last show, and in the end Boris relented, assuring Knuckles that if they lost the match would be on his conscience. And so they all walked out into the Balegium National Stadium pitch dressed in full costume to the applause of the entire Balegium nation. “AND NOW FOR THE GREAT FINALE TO OUR SPECTACULAR CIRCUS SHOW!,” announced the top-hatted circus owner, “THE TEN MAN CANNON BALL!!!”. Suddenly the penny had dropped, Speedyboyzz was the captain of the Balegium national team. “Curses!” cried Boris, as the circus crew, who he now realised were the Balegium national team, rounded up the Salahmon Islanders and herded them into the biggest cannon they had ever seen. “Any last words, Boris Bodega?”, smirked Speedyboyzz. “Yes,” said Boris, “you’re playing the mozzies next aren’t you? Be sure to eat the lasagne, it’s delicious.” Now fully loaded, the cannon began to raise skywards and the brave islanders heard the fuse being lit. “BOSS! What now?!”, impeached all of his team mates. Boris could think of nothing that would get them out of this. “Put your heads between your knees, lads, and pray……”

    Dear Santa

The little Salahs wanted to make sure you knew how to find us on Christmas Eve: just turn left at Blindia and follow the light. It's not the North Star - just the sparkle of all the bling on Boris' mantelpiece.

As you know, I've been very good this year. OK, I did say a rude word when Morata picked up that 5th yellow, but surely I get a pass for that; and I did laugh at Mark's wildcard, but that's one of those 'wisdom of the crowd' things. I have been kind to animals, even the lame ones in my squad.

My needs are simple - just a little help with my squad. I want the big three up front, the power five in midfield, attacking wing-backs, a tasty differential, and a premium keeper. If you could throw in the occasional success with the armband, and a few quid for a rainy day, I would even promise to stop sniffing around the Scout Picks and other forms of self abuse. Some points would be good too. It's for the team, not me, but it might stop the drunks in the bleachers confusing me with Richard Osman.

I'm not averse to a little glory. I dream of making the team of the week. Maybe you could get the organisers to pick from the bottom, or select the top 190. I also need to stay sharp while I am waiting for Boris to catch my eye on the sidelines, so how about replacing the bench with an Lazy-Boy Chair, complete with pump-action foot-rests and an integrated control panel, so I will only ever be one click away from my next rage transfer.

Oh, and can I have a puppy?

If I get all that I won't mind if fixing the plumbing in the beach hut goes on the back-burner, but you might want to OK that with Environmental Health. I also promise not to tell the Angels that you don't exist.

Must go - I need to fire up the raft for the trek to Balegium.

PS - Boris says hi, and asks if he can play Mozampique every week.

In a remarkable fall from grace JohnnyOrphan has gone from team Grabbangldsesh's top scorer and captain, to taking up a place on the bench, where he's joined by Eden Hazardous and Nikesh

For the first time in the tournament The Boot takes up the armband for the Grabbers with big things hoped for from our resident statistician.

As usual a bunch of Conts help out with AK and LateRiser12 joining manager JK in the team

Elsewhere, after weeks of taking the pine Coldplay starts a game, with the process of a team readjustment close to completion.

SujaySilas takes up the final spot, despite failing to heed his manager's words about his 3rd striker, one Colin Quaner

We had the Salahmon Islands Christmas Party today and it all got a bit out of hand during our traditional game of fizzbuzz. Unfortunately we ran out of Kava and decided to replace the usual forfeit with hits. The winner can be determined from this week's team-sheet:

    Greenwindmill (Capt) - teetotaller
    Sune - athlete
    Boris (-4)
    Swanmoretime (-4)
    Rjcv177 (-8)
    Torreslove (-8)
    Lord (-8) ... hic

I thought we were in trouble because of your Liverpool differentials after Friday’s match.
I noticed that your captain’s captain was Aguero and there was a chance he wouldn’t play.
