Alvaro Morata serves a one-match ban for Chelsea’s trip to Everton, while West Ham’s Manuel Lanzini, Burnley’s James Tarkowski, Brighton’s Shane Duffy and Crystal Palace’s Christian Benteke also sit on the sidelines through suspension.

Wilfried Bony is out for Swansea City’s home clash with Palace but Shkodran Mustafi could return for Arsenal’s showdown against Liverpool tonight.

Here’s our summary of the key team news so far, with a whole host of big-name press conferences still to come later today.

Olivier Giroud is expected to miss Arsenal’s home clash against Liverpool tonight due to a hamstring injury but Francis Coquelin could shake off a knock to be in contention. Shkodran Mustafi may be available to return at centre-half following a thigh problem, so Nacho Monreal could move out of the middle and replace Ainsley Maitland-Niles at left-back.

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp welcomes back Emre Can for the trip to the Emirates following the midfielder’s one-match ban. Joel Matip has returned to training but tonight’s match may come too soon for the centre-back. Sadio Mane is likely to come into contention for a recall but Daniel Sturridge (illness) is doubtful.

Everton boss Sam Allardyce could name an unchanged side for the home meeting with Chelsea, with Dominic Calvert-Lewin leading the line once again.

The Blues will be without the suspended Alvaro Morata for the trip to Goodison Park after he picked up his fifth yellow card of the season in the 2-1 Carabao Cup victory over Bournemouth. Pedro, Willian and Eden Hazard look set to start in attack in a 3-4-2-1 set-up.

Shane Duffy will sit out Brighton & Hove Albion’s home fixture against Watford due to suspension, so Uwe Hunemeier or Connor Goldson will deputise in central defence.

The Hornets are without the suspended Marvin Zeegelaar, Abdoulaye Doucoure and Troy Deeney but Tom Cleverley is available again after serving a one-match ban. Will Hughes will undergo a late fitness test having returned to training following a hamstring injury but Kiko Femenia remains sidelined.

David Silva missed Manchester City’s 4-1 win over Tottenham Hotspur due to personal reasons, with Pep Guardiola hopefully set to provide an update on the midfielder in his press conference later this afternoon. Ilkay Gundogan could retain his start if the Spaniard is still unavailable. Vincent Kompany (muscle problem) and Eliaquim Mangala (head injury) are doubts for the home encounter against Bournemouth. Sergio Aguero looks the favourite to start up front after Gabriel Jesus played all 120 minutes in Tuesday night’s EFL Cup tie against Leicester City.

Cherries boss Eddie Howe has a number of injury concerns ahead of the trip to the Etihad. Jermain Defoe is set to miss out, while Charlie Daniels, Harry Arter and Josh King are all doubtful.

Cedric Soares is expected to miss Southampton’s home clash against Huddersfield Town, while fellow full-back Ryan Bertrand is also a doubt. After only coming on as a substitute in the 1-0 defeat to Chelsea, Charlie Austin should be handed a recall against the Terriers.

Huddersfield head coach David Wagner will be without the suspended Jonathan Hogg for the trip to St Mary’s, while Elias Kachunga has been ruled out for eight to 12 weeks with a knee injury. Danny Williams and Tom Ince could be handed recalls, though Chris Lowe remains a concern with a foot injury.

Stoke City manager Mark Hughes revealed that Erik Pieters and Kurt Zouma are both very doubtful for the home fixture against West Bromwich Albion. Charlie Adam will be assessed after picking up a hip problem, while Jese Rodriguez will need time to build up his fitness following a recent leave of absence due to personal reasons.

Alan Pardew revealed Matt Phillips and Nacer Chadli are likely to be in the travelling party for the trip to the bet365 Stadium. Gareth Barry is expected to push for a recall after scoring as a substitute in the 2-1 defeat to Manchester United.

Wilfried Bony has been ruled out for seven to ten days with a hamstring injury, and will miss Swansea City’s home meeting with Crystal Palace. Caretaker manager Leon Britton should hand a recall to Tammy Abraham, but Ki Sung-yeung (calf) and Leroy Fer (back) are both doubtful.

The Eagles will be without the suspended Christian Benteke for the trip to south Wales, so Bakary Sako could start alongside Wilfried Zaha in attack. Luka Milivojevic is available again following his one-match ban and is set to replace James McArthur but Joel Ward and Timothy Fosu-Mensah remain out.

Manuel Lanzini misses West Ham United’s home fixture against Newcastle United – he will serve the second of a two-match ban dished out for successful deception of a match official. Mark Noble is a doubt due to a hamstring injury.

The Magpies will be without the banned Jonjo Shelvey but Matt Ritchie and Dwight Gayle should push for recalls at the London Stadium.

Burnley will be without the suspended James Tarkowski for their home match against Tottenham Hotspur after the defender was handed a three-match ban by the FA for violent conduct. Kevin Long should deputise in central defence, while Charlie Taylor will continue at left-back with Stephen Ward very unlikely to recover from a knee injury.

As for Spurs, they welcome back Davinson Sanchez for the trip to Turf Moor following the defender’s three-match suspension. His return could allow Mauricio Pochettino to move Eric Dier into central midfield or switch to a three-man central defence.

After being rested for the EFL Cup tie against Man City, Kasper Schmeichel, Danny Simpson, Wes Morgan and Wilfred Ndidi should all return for the home clash against Manchester United.

Antonio Valencia is an injury concern for Jose Mourinho’s side due to a hamstring injury. Matteo Darmian, Luke Shaw and Daley Blind provide options in the full-back positions, with Ashley Young able to shift across to right-back.

All this and more has now been updated in the Team News section ahead of tonight’s 6.45pm deadline. Keep an eye on our official Twitter account for breaking news – as the day unfolds, we will issue updates from Friday’s press conferences and refresh our Team News tab accordingly to keep you informed.

Is Adrian nailed as WHU goalkeeper? Considering replacing Elliot with him as he rotates very good with Pope.

I was at Bristol City vs Manchester United (I'm a Manc fan) on Wednesday and as I'm bored at work, thought I'd share some of my thoughts:

    - Romero - was fairly solid but at 1-1 the ball comes to him in the 87th minute and he falls to the floor as if to waste time, unbelievable!
    - Lindelof was solid and composed, at this moment in time, I'd like to see him partnered with Jones whilst Bailly is out.
    - Darmian was abhorrent, that's the last we'll ever see of him in a United shirt. He was absolutely pathetic.
    - Shaw was restricted, clearly instructed not to get forward and as a result was average, didn't do anything wrong.
    - Blind had one good tackle but looked lost in this system, I get he was playing midfield for the first time in ages but he was practically a third centre back, looked pretty poor. Get rid.
    - McTominay - good to see him get a chance and he produced a mature performance in the centre of the park, solid and reliable. Impressed.
    - Pogba - First 15 minutes, he was hideous, absolutely awful, could not control the ball for toffee. Grew into the game as it went along but he was like a kid who had his favourite toy taken off him, reacting to anything and everything, swiping at players, I was embarrassed watching him. His game management was poor, instead of playing a simple ball, he'd lose it by trying at 30 yard cross pitch pass trying to beat 3 or 4 players in the process. He is a red card waiting to happen.
Martial and Rashford - just don't get me started.
Ibrahimovic - slow and rusty which is understandable but again the basics weren't there, he has absolutely no pace, I expected this but not as bad as it was. He should play number 10 now and feed the wingers or knock balls through to Lukaku.
Lukaku - When he came on, he looked pretty sharp to be fair to him but was feeding off scrapes, he had some good chances and on another day, 1 of them would have gone in the back of the net. Not worth the outlay in such a defensive and boring team.
Mkhi - Came on and showed glimpses of his talent, he needs gametime and clearly as I was watching, he needs confidence, maybe Pogba being back will give him that license to conduct the midfield. After 10 minutes of being on though, he completely vanished.

Whilst it appeared an attacking line up with Martial, Rashford etc. they quite clearly are not playing as a team, only concerned about themselves. So many times simple balls to teammates went missing and a 25yr shot went over the bar, I was shocked by this. Rashford looked like he feels he's worth 200m already and is cruising along, appalling. Pass back, sideways, back, sideways and guess what? Back again, even at 1-0 down, the impetus was just not there. Mourinho complained about the speaker being too loud? He probably would complain about how noisy the fans were if they could. Starting to dislike the guy.

From an FPL perspective, I would get the standard defender in, probably Jones, I'd keep an eye on Lindelof as well as I thought he was excellent, then you've got the standard Dave option. Attacking wise, I'd steer well clear from any of them including pogba.

Well done to Bristol, they deserved the win, wish we played with the character they showed and the scenes at the end, wonderful to see.

      Great round up.

      Cheers for posting.

Think I’ll still go pogba though. Got his first match out of the way - plus he earned a fantasy assist, despite the red mist descending from the nearby Mendips into Bristol.

Gert Lush result indeed for City. 🙂

Pogba is a brilliant player but when he's off his game, he stinks the place out and ends up trying to do too much which just makes matters worse.

Why is this hot topic??? All of this information is just not relevant from an FPL perspective.
United won't play as bad as they did against Bristol in the PL.

Personally I find it fairly relevant to FPL as it shows how the team are faring there and then. Yes I know it's Bristol but teams in the PL are supposedly better..... Also to add, Flint from Bristol City was immense and it would not surprise me if they got promoted this season

Just personally think "Scouting Man United" could mislead a lot of people into thinking that United will play like that in the PL.
When in reality, I wouldn't base any decision on whether to get a United player into my team or not on that Carabao Cup game. Different competitions, different players involved, different attitudes towards the game.
I can guarantee you that United will not put in the same performance in the PL.

          nope there's always the bench!!
still think Utd's problem (much like Spurs) is quality & speed of ball into main striker.
Seems to me the natural effect of playing Ibra 10 would be to limit Pogba's forward movement.
Mata has to be a better 10 if Jose gave him a run.

As a City fan who watched, I agree with most of this, including Martial and Rashford throwing themselves to the floor and sulking like premadonnas.

However, Rashford was a threat early on and was extremely unlucky not to score in the first half when his strike hit the inside of the post. He looked dangerous when he picked up the ball in pockets around the area.

What a night though and what a win for City!

I think you lose a lot of readers starting with saying Romero was "fairly good". He was unnecessarily aggressive, he was like a drunk guy looking for a fight, or a kindergarten kid who didn't get his favourite toy and wanted to fight with other kids because of it. Really weird to look at. And yeah, I saw the whole game. He was also very poor with the ball in his legs, taking unnecessary risks, waiting too long to pass, and giving BC counter attacking opportunities due to his errors.

If I was to score Romero, he would be about 3/10. So that does not count as fairly good in my book. Seeing that grave error, I never read the rest of your post. Sorry, in this digital information world, we need to be selective as to what to read.

Love your articles, though. Maybe this one is to coloured by your own mufc-glasses?

        Sterling is my current pick,

But there's strong case for kdb. He's playing incredibly.

I also think pool could rip Arsenal to shreds, especially if Sanchez doesn't turn up.

So yeah, more thinking to do!

I took a look at 3 top assets from Liverpool, Man City and Spurs in terms of (C) options. I just focused on basic digits, the most important in FPL - goals and assists. I ingored advanced stats such SIB, SOT, xG, xGA, BCC, etc. (last 6 gameweeks):

      STERLING
      6 games - 6 starts - 4 goals - 3 assists - 5 bonus pts
      2 blanks - 2 dobule digit score
      Goal involvement: 43,75 %
Goals conceded by opposition defence: 10
Earlier this season vs Bournemouth: 1 goal, 0 assist

      SALAH
      6 games - 5 starts - 5 goals - 1 assist - 5 bonus pts
      1 blank - 2 double digit score
      Goal involvement: 42,85 %
Goals conceded by opposition defence: 4
Earlier this season vs Arsenal: 1 goal, 1 assist

      KANE
      6 games - 6 starts - 4 goals - 0 assist - 4 bonus pts
      3 blanks - 1 double digit score
      Goal involvement: 36,36 %
Goals conceded by opposition defence: 3
Earlier this season vs Burnley: 0 goal, 0 assist

      Based on summary above:
      - Kane has most blanks and least double digit scores
      - Kane has the lowest goal involvement
      - Kane face the most resilient defence
      - Kane has already blanked vs Burnley

Notes: I saw dozens of posts suggesting that Burnley will struggle without Tarkowski. For me this won't be huge problem for Sean Dyche. They are solid as a whole formation, not relying on individuals. The Clarets were supposed to be leaky without Michael Kean but as we seen - still solid defence without last season leader.
Last but not least - we can't forget about LB issue at Bournemouth. Sterling will play most likely against Adam Smith who started just twice as LB for Cherries in all Premier League matches past two seasons. Bournemouth conceded twice 3 goals. 6 goals in total, 4 of them were created/came from part of pitch were Smith was playing.

TL;DR - I my opinion Sterling and Salah have better chance to give us attacking returns. It's bit odd but looking at recent form I can't see any greater explosiveness which Kane has to offer, especially at Turf Moor.

      Either Kane or Sterling.

Kane - Has been getting chances but been unsuccessful. Burnley without Ward add Tark. Spurs coming off a heavy defeat and will want to make ammend. Nailed to start.

Sterling - Great form. City should give Bournmouth a touch up. Burnley without Daniels.

      Sané (c) for me.

-4th most likely goal scorer this weekend, (after Kane, Aguero and Jesus) according to Bet365.
      -Most likely midfield goalscorer.
      -Has had a rest midweek.
      -Playing Bournemouth at home.
-Has the potential to explode (6 double figure hauls this year including 5 at home).
Seems to be completely overlooked as a captain option at the moment

Got Sterling and Sané. Had Sterling (c) locked in all week but the handful of people here making the case for Sané have been chipping away at me for the last few days, and this is enough to convince me I think. Nice differential for the halfway point.

        Kane.
Sterling is not the type of player WHO can haul double digits for a third consecutive game.
        Hazard lacks Morata.
        And I have no Agüero.
IMO, this week will be ruled by those strikers we have missed all season.
What better differential there can be from captaining Agüero or Kane. Each will be captained by less than 500k players.
Each has been silent for some time.
And they are the best two strikers in the whole league.
This is the time for them to upset those who do not believe in them.
I see the only viable alternative to be Salah, but that is a classic.

This feels like a decent week to take a risk with the captaincy, as the poll is more evenly split than usual, though Sterling is understandably ahead.

I think I'm going to plump for Charlie Austin (c) - he's consistently getting into great goalscoring positions whenever he's on the pitch at the moment, and we know that he can finish as well.

I think Pellegrino needs a win at home to Huddersfield, and he has to start him - he's their biggest goal threat by a mile. Wagner has also been rotating a bit of late, and I wouldn't be too surprised if he were to slightly prioritise the midweek game at home to Stoke - he spoke about getting to 12 wins to ensure survival, and I think one that will be a real target.

Another factor is that before Deeney got himself sent off last weekend, these were the previous five starting centre forwards to play at home to Huddersfield:

        Calvert-Lewin - 1 goal, 1 assist
        Lacazette - 1 goal
        Wilson - 3 goals
        Sturridge - 1 goal
        Abraham - 2 goals

It's definitely a gamble, and I'd say that the likes of Sterling have a lower floor this gameweek, and would do better than Austin if these matches were simulated a hundred times.

Still, it's not very often that you have a player with such low ownership that could conceivably grab you a differential captain hat trick - it's far from likely, but I think it's a reward worth chasing just this once.

      Foster (Elliot)
      Jones Otamendi Masuaku (Kenny Rangel)
      Hazard Salah Sterling Richarlison RLC
      Lukaku Firmino DCL

I have 0FT, 5.0ITB and my WC to play next GW. Thoughts on any moves or stick for now? I am saving cash to get Kane back in for the DG, but could upgrade a defender or midfielder. Any ideas?

Currently have no benchers that will play.
If I use my ft to do Kiko to Ogbonna/Masuaku and have Kenny on the bench, is that enough? The alternative is to go maverick mode and flog Morata to enable KDB etc. for hits.

A Morata is for Christmas, not for life. You'll want him for the following two games. And why not start Kenny?

Well you don't have Morata to score against your Everton defender. You're only talking about a bench player. Save the FT - may need it for the TOT/WHU double game week coming up.

          And save the ft? Possibly.

What has Kolasinac actually done wrong, to be dropped? Thought he has been one of Arsenal's better players this season.

Very strange. Yet another master stroke from Wenger.

Arsenal have changed formation and by the looks of it Arsene doesn't fancy him as a LB or he's been carrying a knock which we've not heard about.

Mustafi should return this evening, which means he can revert to three at the back.

Is Lacazette worth keeping? I got him a couple of weeks ago and I seriously regret that decision...

Lacazette + RLC -> Sterling + probably Depoitre but I'll bench the 3rd striker anyway...

If on WC I'd 100% go for 3-5-2. Midfielders are so much better than strikers this season.

      A or B?

      A) Morata to Austin (-4) (Have Hazard, would allow me to do Richarlison and Mee to Jones and Pogba next week)

      B) Bench Morata and play Calvert-Lewin (Means I have Morata for BHA and STK but no United defence or Pogba)
