Scout Notes – Relentless Kane Rolls On

Harry Kane emphatically breaks more records and the hearts of those Fantasy managers who risked turning their back on his talents ahead of an impending blank.

The Spurs striker made it back-to-back hat-tricks from a blisteringly productive festive schedule so far. In doing so, he shattered Alan Shearer’s Premier League record for goals in a calendar year.

Those Fantasy managers who showed patience and held on to Kane will be overjoyed, but now have another difficult decision ahead of them.

They will face a dilemma with a second consecutive 17-point to sweeten the pill, but two hat-tricks in the space of three days cannot shift the fact that Kane now has a blank to come.

More than 131,000 managers had brought him in for the 5-2 win over Southampton regardless of that blank, with 1,161,712 making him the most-captained player of Gameweek 20.

They are now part of a 41.2% Fantasy Premier League (FPL) ownership that must decide whether to stick or twist on the forward.

Chelsea’s Alvaro Morata is an obvious replacement for Gameweek 21, and he made his case with a first goal since Gameweek 15. To add to the Spaniard’s appeal, the Blues entertain Stoke City next and the Potters, already without Kurt Zouma, saw their skipper Ryan Shawcross limp off today.

But the downside of selling Kane involves cost – in both price and transfers expended.

His value is on the move. It rose to 12.9 ahead of Boxing Day and could increase again before Gameweek 21 with a number of managers either oblivious to, or simply not caring about, his blank.

Some 33,000 have already transferred him in for his non-existent Gameweek 21, so should his price rise again, those selling him could lose profit as well as the two transfers the transaction will cost – assuming, that is, that they bring Kane back for fixtures with Swansea City and West Ham. That is surely a given.

Ignoring Kane for that upcoming pair of attractive fixtures seems untenable. He will be the most-captained for Gameweek 22 and, those with the Triple Captain chip in hand will surely consider putting it in play on the back of Kane’s confidence and devastating form.

Spurs Midfield stake their claim

Kane isn’t the only member of Mauricio Pochettino’s squad who warrants consideration ahead of the double-header.

Son Heung-min is building a convincing case.

The midfielder started his sixth straight match against Southampton and produced a goal, two assists and a bonus point for a second double-digit haul of that run.

In fact, Son has managed four goals and as many assists from those six matches and although he’s currently the fourth most bought player despite the blank Gameweek 21, he’s still only owned by 3.9%.

Previously far more popular, Dele Alli (11.5%) is also enjoying a min-revival.

He followed up his brace of assists at Burnley with two more, and a goal, against the Saints, with two bonus points pushing his Gameweek tally to a season’s best 15.

Son’s 8.0 price and his considerably more consistent recent form will ensure that the South Korean is favoured, with Alli reduced to an unlikely Gameweek 22 differential.

The same will probably apply to Christian Erisken. The Dane’s assist was dwarfed by other performances, but marked a fifth return in six Gameweeks.

Elsewhere, it remains difficult to justify investment in the Spurs defence.

Pochettino’s rotation policy concerning his wing-backs is now confusing everyone but him, with Serge Aurier (0.5%) handed a second straight start – and his third in four matches – as Kieran Trippier (5.8%) joined Ben Davies on the bench.

With the points potential of Spurs’ wing-backs now difficult to predict, the side’s lack of defensive stability – they’ve kept just two clean sheets since Gameweek 12 – further dampens the appeal of recruitment for the forthcoming double.

How many matches did he actually score in?
he's had 8 (?) hat-tricks, so that's 24 goals (some of those matches he scored 4) -There must be a few braces too

        He scored in 19 of 35 (54%).

In FPL terms, he blanked fourteen times (40%), which is as often as he got 10+ points.

I think it depends who you got instead of Kane- I changed him for Firminho ahead of the City game and in three weeks I got 36 points from him where Kane would have given me 35. From a player who costs only 8.6m that’s pretty good and allowed me to spend the extra cash elsewhere. I also don’t have to bench Kane for the blank next week, so all in all I would say Kane-exit wasn’t a total fail for me.

Bear in mind that what happened was completely worst case scenario for those in the Kane-exit camp (back to back hat-tricks), to still come out the other side with 1 extra point from my chosen replacement isn’t too bad at all.

TLDR- for those of us who did Kane to Firminho, #Kanexit wasn’t a complete failure.

I agree fully I managed to upgrade Ramsey to coutinho, choupo moting to sterling and got firmino as kane replacement as well as ddg in goals over Elliot.

If anything kanes back to back exceptional scoring has shown that the move was right as it hasn't overly hurt me in OR and when Kane goes back to blanking for the next 4 (keeping his goal per game average) then I'll be in a great position to capitalise.

I think your comments would really depend on captain.
Most would captain Kane if they have him but not many would captain Firmino. Then the difference in points becomes more stark.

I think in limited circumstances some people will have made Kanexit a success over the Xmas games. We still have to take the blank GW in to consideration. By and large though I think those that stuck by Kane are better off. If morata or firm have an amazing GW next week then maybe the margins will be finer.

I did Kane > Kun before City v Spurs game, 3 GWs ago.

This was to release funds for Sterling and also for a run of favourable fixt for Aguero. If Aguero (C) doesn't even start...ugh.

In hindsight binning Morata for Firm would have solved this.

In fact not only did I needlessly lose Kane I didn't even jump on the Liverpool train and remained on the Chelsea unicycle with Hazard and Morata.

Generous degree of hindsight there. Kane was lucky to face the most depleted Burnley defense of the season. Usually they are a fortress at home and had injuries played out differently I don't think he would have got that first hatrick. I also think that hatrick and then being close to the record was a real catalyst for the explosion vs Southampton.

Yeah but in regards to Jay he'd already set his strategy up without Kane or knowing that Burnley would have such a depleted defence. As he'd spread his funds it wasn't possible to turn around the ship (so to speak) with out taking multiple hits. I still think he's decision making was sound and I don't think it will change the ways he plays the game i.e. if he was presented with the same scenario again I think he would make the same decision.

It will be interesting to hear what he has to say about this. I'm just speculating.

    0.6 in the bank

    2 FTs.

    B) Something else

I started with TAA but sold when it was clear not even playing odd game. Checking his ppg it's around 4.5 and he only started 7 never come on as sub mid game. Seeing as how I rarely rely on 5th def you could buy and start every week knowing if he doesn't start good chance of no appearance. Last 4 scores 7 2 7 14 and the 2 was 5-1 Brighton

have you already played it? I would maybe hold so you could get Son/Arnautovic in there...and then just do Son > Coutinho after double.

        Looks great

Courtois to Pickford, one of the defenders to Christensen. Looks very good.

Maybe Son and Cresswell, with Kane already in the team that will be my bench players for their blank?

Is Hazard > Son & RLC/Rich > Arnautovic overkill for double?

Could use funds the following week to either

      a) get Hazard back
      b) upgrade 4.5 > Alonso
      c) Son > Mahrez
      d ) RLC/Rich/Arnautovic > Lingard

What do ppl think about the free chip for the dgw? Given that we have a TC and BB for another two, it could reap decent dividend?

Free Hit when there's only 2-3 game DGW. Any other option a waste imo

Good time to use it since the value's won't change too much with the close schedule

        Contemplating the idea

thinking of it as I want to keep my team relatively intact ... a FH allows lots of LEI and MCI players too, whilst parking my CHE and LIVE players for the week

Hiya lads, some lovely scores today, just need a little help here as team needs to change a little bit I reckon.

      Have 2FT's, 0.9 ITB

      Pope
      Christensen - Otamendi - Jones
      Richarlison - Salah - Sterling - Hazard
      Kane - Morata - DCL
      ________________________________
      Krul: Kenny, Ogbonna, RLC

Was thinking something like Hazard + Richarlison >> Coutinho + Son?

      Anything you guys could suggest?

I do feel like I should keep Hazard for one more game but I simply do not want the guy. Any help would be awesome guys 🙂

Ugh I hate how the deadline for the first WC is this GW not the next so I have to bring in DGW players before their blank.

Anyone else in the same boat?
Looking at having Adrian, Arnautovic and Kane but also possibly Son/Alli.
Don't mind copping a 0 next GW for some extra DGW points.

Would like Kenny...but his next fixtures arent looking great... any other bright ideas?

Any merit in owning both TAA and Gomez and rotating?
(Got Salah and can't bring in Firmino or Couts)

Again, thanks for the feedback thus far. Naturally, I'm overthinking it now, but just want to make sure of this:

It's NOT worth taking a hit to bring in Firmino for gw21...right?

Hazard and Austin would be my TOs to get Firmino. It would also mean consecutive hits to accommodate the DGW.

Current mids: Sterling, Salah, Richa, Haz, RLC // Fwds: Kane, DCL, Austin

Hmmm disappointed at the 54 and red arrow with 3 to play, what would you do to this team:

      Fabianski
      Otamendi,Jones,Christensen
      Hazard,Silva,Richarlison,Sterling,Salah
      Kane,DCL

      Subs: Elliot, Depoitre,Ogbonna,Dunk
      1.1 ITB

      Wanted list: Alonso,Coutinho,Son/Eriksen,Lingard

      Any suggestions gurus?

Lining up like this next week...

      Elliot
      Kenny Jones Naughton
      Sane Hazard RLC Salah
      Kane* Firmino Depoitre

      Foster Ogbonna* Vert* Arnie*

1FT with £0.6m ITB... could probably do with doing Vert to Azpi/Otamendi or Ogbonna to someone?
