Wisdom of the Crowd – Gameweek 27

Each week we are reviewing the aggregated predictions on Superbru’s Premier League Predictor game, using the collective Wisdom of the Crowd predictions to guide our fantasy football thinking.

Please join the FFS league here and add your own predictions to the data – the more there are, the more accurate the crowd should be (in theory).

And don’t forget there is £20,000 on offer every week if you get a full house of predictions.

GAMEWEEK 26 REVIEW

The wheels seem to be coming off at Chelsea, as a 4-1 defeat at Watford would attest, whilst Manchester City also faltered with a 1-1 draw at Burnley – these two results were predicted by just 4% and 5% respectively.

Here are the Gameweek 26 results in descending order of predictability:

Well done to The Capello Index from the UK for winning the Yellow Cap in Round 25, with three exact score picks, including the Burnley and Manchester City draw.

It was another strong week for Mr Crowd Wisdom – using the aggregated predictions of the crowd – who climbed another 12 places up to 22nd in the FFS pool, out of 460 people.

The aggregated predictions of the community are making better predictions than most individual players in the game, suggesting that there is credibility in the Wisdom of the Crowd concept.

The crowd’s average picks have now taken the Crowd Wisdom user into the top 4% on the global leaderboard.

GAMEWEEK 27 PREVIEW

Here is the Expected Goals chart for each fixture in Gameweek 27:

And here is the ranking of teams in order of Expected Goals Scored and Conceded:

The crowd is clearly starting to lose faith in Chelsea – despite their kind-looking home fixture with West Brom, they are only ranked fourth on the predicted goals table.

Manchester City are at the top again, with Liverpool and Man United tucked in just behind them.  Those disappointed by Sky Blues striker Sergio Aguero in Round 26 might like to give him a second chance this week, whilst Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah is also likely to be a strong option.

The North London Derby at Wembley looks to be full of goals, according to the crowd. They are predicting that Tottenham and Arsenal will both find the net, with the home side the likelier victor.

In defence, Chelsea is predicted to keep a clean sheet, with Bournemouth, Everton, Stoke and Swansea looking like the pick of the budget options.

Is there anything that catches your eye in these predictions?

Good luck!

The crowd favour a North London Derby goal fest. Nervous times for Kanexiters.

But the crowd favour 0.71 fewer goals scored by Spurs than Manchester City.....Not quite sure how you came to this conclusion from this particular set of data Jonty?

They predict a goal fest at City too.

But given Kanexiters are at best breaking even the last thing they want is to see is Kane score a brace against Arsenal - especially as they locked in two precious transfers to remove him for Aguero and ignored Salah (c) last week in favour of the City man.

Oh I'm not disagreeing its a nervous time for those without Kane - it almost always is. I just wouldn't describe a predicted scoreline of 2-1 as a "goalfest" 😉

The worst thing about Kane scoring a brace or more wouldn't be the rank drops, the self doubt, the mini leagues gone to rack and ruin............ it would be the levels of smug on the next scoutcast!! 😛

Aguero owners got off lightly on the last one.

Strange how all those who got his hattrick points and berated us for not heavily pushing Aguero a while ago went quiet this week 😉

Not that strange actually. Quite similar to what happened at the end of the year with the first wave of Kanexiters going silent after the consecutive hattricks, or even with Kaneremainers going quiet after the DGW. With both Kun and Kane, you're looking at explosiveness, which basically then boils down to whether you consider a hattrick and a couple of blanks a victory over a cheaper player who scores a goal a game for the three.

The strange was meant ironically. Obviously I mean it was blindlingly obvious why. 🙂

Probably Salah - he's away but I think Leic have a bit more about them defensively than Southampton.

I have KDB and Sterling too so if I owned Aguero I wouldn't captain him as that would be too many eggs in one basket.

Biggest loss for Kanexiters is that they have so far not captained Salah. Could be the same issue this week.

I captained Kane over Salah, so the same issue, different player.
Every week I say to myself Salah's going to be rested or blank.
I'm doing it again this week, am I mad?

Not so nervous as I did Kanexit right before Kun's hatrick and captained Hazard last GW 😉

North London derby very unpredictable. Could be a goal fest. Arsenal will back their new attacking stars and go on the offensive. Spurs will also attack. Would expect at least 4 goals in the match. Kane loves scoring against arsenal. And is fresher than aguero who will surely get reduced minutes and must be tired.

Not at all, City are predicted to score more than Spurs. Kun is scoring more points per match than Kane. It's simple mathematics really. 😉

Kane owners are more likely to captain Salah though.. according to the simple maths of Gameweek 26 this gave remainers a huge advantage 🙂

And that doesn't even factor in the points potential of Kane remainers' two extra transfers.

Your Kane+Salah+armband scored 70 pts. during my Kanexit.
My Aguero(c)+Salah scored 75 pts. +points scored by the extra ~1m(Aguero being cheaper) and TV gain. One game to go, where Aguero is more likely to score than Kane.
Not to mention that you're doing way better than most Kane keepers.

Five points better off, but two transfers down. As said at best pretty much breaking even.

When Kaneremainers consider their transfers GWK 28, Kanexiters are locked into getting Kane - or not and just popping down DFS for a new sofa 😉

When you then factor in GWK 31 planning every transfer could be crucial.

Come on, Jonty! You picked the highest scorer between Kane and Salah each week for the armband, most didn't. I might be break even against you but surpassed lots of Kane keepers with my Kanexit.

Aguero' ppg as starter is 7.3 Kane' ppg as starter is 6,6.
City more likely to score than Spurs, according to bookies, the crowd and pretty much everyone that can rub two brain cells together. If anything it should be nervous times for Kane keepers. That said most exiters and keepers will captain Salah, so not the week to buy a new couch. Next week could be though, Kane loves a blank against Palace. 😉

Please tell me the maths as some one who owns all 3. Kun, Kane, Salah.
Was going with Kun based on home form.
          High rank.
