634x258 Suspensions

The Suspension Tightrope claimed no new victims over the last couple of days, but there are now 13 players finely balanced at the four-yellow mark with just one match remaining in Gameweek 9.

Prior to the weekend’s action getting underway, there were ten men on the verge of a one-match suspension: Ciaran Clark, Jeffrey Schlupp, Fernandinho, Eliaquim Mangala, Matteo Darmian, Jack Colback, Oriol Romeu, Billy Jones, Dele Alli and Mark Noble were all precariously perched.

James Milner joined that cast with a late challenge on Danny Rose and rode his luck for the remainder of Liverpool’s encounter against Spurs, escaping without a red despite making a number of clumsy tackles. Meanwhile, Erik Lamela proved similarly tenacious for the home team and subsequently received his fourth caution of the campaign, placing him at risk of missing the North London derby in Gameweek 12. Spurs and Man City are the only two teams with one than one player on this week’s Tightrope, with both sides affording us two apiece.

Finally, Claudio Yacob – a midfield lynchpin for a West Bromwich Albion outfit that ranks joint-top for clean sheets (five) this term – entered the referee’s notebook for the third time in four outings, earning him caution number four for the campaign.

In terms of new suspensions, Dwight Gayle received his marching orders for two soft yellows during Crystal Palace’s 3-1 home defeat to West Ham United yesterday. The Eagles frontman was dismissed with the score level at one apiece late in the first-half and, post-match, manager Alan Pardew reckoned the decision was a little unjust:

“Our striker gets booked for a bad challenge, quite rightly. The second challenge, the referee knows he’s booked, he’s missed it by a centimetre probably and he sends him off. I thought a man of his experience perhaps should have looked at that situation and given him his final warning. I’m not excusing him from complete blame. The second challenge, he shouldn’t make. He’ll have to learn from that. Having said that, I still think it was very harsh to send him off.”

The 5.1-priced Gayle – who has started the last three outings up top – now sits out the Eagles’ trip to Leicester City next Gameweek, with Pardew likely to turn to Fraizer Campbell or Patrick Bamford if Connor Wickham fails to recover from injury in time. Given that he’s failed to net in five league appearances, Gayle may find it difficult to make an immediate return to the first XI in Gameweek 11.

Turning our attention towards players that have served their time, Eric Dier and Sebastian Coates – who toppled off the Tightrope last Gameweek – are available for selection next time out. The former will be hoping to reclaim his starting role in central midfield for the trip to Bournemouth, though Mousa Dembele staked a claim for another start with a man-of-the-match performance against Liverpool yesterday. Coates, meanwhile, will have to impress new manager Sam Allardyce to displace either Younes Kaboul or John O’Shea in central defence.

Jeremain Lens also makes a welcome return for the Black Cats, having fulfilled his duties and sat out their 1-0 loss at The Hawthorns. The Dutch midfielder – who has played a part in five of Sunderland’s eight league goals this season – could have a key part to play in the Wear-Tyne derby next Sunday as Big Sam welcomes his former club to the Stadium of Light.

If only I listened to my own advice instead of going Pelle and Hazard for -4 ...

Only a certain type of manager would have gone for Wijnaldum this week. Most posters here aren't that type 😉

Had him as captain all week until I backed out last min for Pelle. That extra 23 points is haunting me 🙁

Unlucky, though you though it seems you were swayed by talk here then. I bought Pelle in as my Kun replacement but I wasnt going to captain him. Stuck with my guns and went with Sanchez.

I wasn't swayed by this site. Pelle was definitely my plan B based on gut feeling also. He did manage to hit the post!

                  yeah, that 'assist'.

Well if it makes you feel any better I had Sterling and didnt captain him. Though, unlike you I actually wanted to sell my hattrick player so I count myself lucky!

Who are people trying to bring in for the turn of fixtures in GW11?

    What are your priorities?

For me i would like to get Man U defensive cover , SOU defensive cover and maybe just maybe someone from EVE defending, but unlikely at the moment.
Also, considering Mata for Mahrez at GW12.

Also considering the same swap (Mahrez to Mata). I want a United player after this next GW.

FPL is not a one-week game. People need to start realising that transfers should be judged over a number of weeks to deem whether they were successful or not.

Just seen Rojo has only played 2 games this season. This player would have to start.

I thought about it last week and more so, wanted to get him in for Hazard. But unfortunately gave Hazard another week.
This is not a bad cry since Wijnaldum is by far the most creative player for Newcastle and with the fixtures turning tasty for Newcastle, he was the man to get in.
Even against big opponent, he was the one to show something in the middle of the park.
Newcastle was bound to turn their season anyway.

I salute those who saw right and got him before this GW, and confident, he'll still come good given the fixtures coming up.

And besides the Kola transfer I would like to get Wijnaldum great fixtures and form I think but I don't know if it's kneejerk move.. would transfer him with Mahrez ( -4) cause I got Vardy or transfer him with Surman but then I will have bench headace's..

Wijnaldum is a good player but Ruddy should have done better on some of those goals and another took a big deflection. Sometimes a player just gets lucky so not even remotely tempted to get him in.

I wouldn't be so sure. Sagna is a very far 3rd choice LB after Kolarov and Clichy imo, and Kolarov played the majority of games towards the end of last season too ( don't recall whether Clichy was injured or not ), so he might even have nailed his place in the starting XI.

Is there some kind of rift between him and Claudio?

I'm disappointed at myself for hopping on, it's the kind of bandwagon I am usually very good at avoiding, but he just looked such a prospect. It was a risk, but I'm wary of getting rid looking at his fixtures after this week.

All ready have Bellerin ( dann, Targett, Kolarov, Richards ) I can afford Kompany but think he's too expensive so I'm leaning towards Toby but I need to know if it's essential to have a city defensive cover

oh yeah, only that reason is accepted.
when he played up front as target man (Vardy on the left), he is far worse than Ulloa
when he played in the hole support Vardy, Mahrez is far better than him in that position
