The Stock Check – Gameweek 1 – Monday

Chelsea’s stars of 2014/15 rise to the occasion at Stamford Bridge as both Diego Costa and Eden Hazard deliver goals to earn Antonio Conte a victory in his first Premier League outing. Here’s the final Stock Check of Gameweek 1.

On the Rise

Eden Hazard
The Belgian’s spot-kick was hugely significant, not least because it saw Hazard deliver in Gameweek 1, but also because it appears to confirm him as Chelsea’s designated penalty taker. That’s something of a puzzle given that Oscar took one in pre-season with Hazard on the pitch. Now with penalties secured, Hazard’s stock, like that of Riyad Mahrez, has enjoyed a major boost.

Diego Costa
Owned by just 7% of FPL managers, Costa’s fine winning strike rolled us back to the 2014/15 campaign and offered a reminder of his clinical finishing ability. His future at Chelsea is far from assured but if he can hint at returning to his debut season strike rate, he may yet enter our thinking. However, an early booking and a reckless challenge on Adrian also demonstrated just why we have to show extreme caution.

Cesar Azpilicueta
The Spanish full-back has significantly improved his attacking game and is now offering just as much from the left as Branislav Ivanovic on the right. Unlike the Serb, Azpilicueta’s starting role has rarely come under question and with no rival for his position, he continues to stand out as the key option in Antonio Conte’s defence. Tonight’s assist and bonus only underlined that further.

James Collins
Slaven Bilic opted for the Welsh warhorse over Angelo Ogbonna, potentially unlocking a 4.5 option in West Ham’s backline. That already brought Collins to our attention, even before his dramatic blast from a West Ham corner. A start against AFC Bournemouth should be guaranteed but it remains if he can hold off Ogbonna in the long-term.

In Decline

Andre Ayew
The Ghanaian’s West Ham bow lasted just 34 minutes before he gave way with a thigh problem. That was a blow to his 9.5% ownership who must now wait anxiously to see if he can recover for Sunday’s potentially profitable meeting with the Bournemouth defence. With Payet a likely starter, Bilic won’t need to take a risk with his new signing.

Michail Antonio
Charged with containing Hazard, he was always in for a testing evening. Seemingly consigned to a right-back role with Bilic collecting options on the flanks, Antonio was hooked shortly after conceding the early second-half penalty. His start against AFC Bournemouth could be in doubt – his fragility against top class opponents certainly isn’t, nor is his reluctance to continue as a full-back.

Sofiane Feghouli
The 5.5 midfield option is another in the West Ham treatment room. He missed tonight’s encounter with a hamstring problem which materialised in training according to Bilic.

Oscar
We thought he was on spot-kicks, clearly he is not. That’s a major dent to his appeal and with Cesc Fabregas breathing down his neck, the Brazilian’s owners will rarely be able to rest easy.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Got Tadic and Redmond in the team and am thinking about transferring Tadicout, got nothing in the bank. Considering Tadic to Lamela, thoughts?

Tadic will get loads of points, he was really sharp. IMO he'll do better than Redmond in the long run, who's just not as consistent.

What's Redmond not being consistent based on? Usually produced when he played last season from what I remember.

Playing as a striker and for 1.5 (yes 1.5!!) less makes it a no brainer over which to choose imo. But I think Tadic is worth his value at 7.5 also

Got Oscar in my team as well, would getting him out and keeping Tadic make more sense then? Didnt see Oscar play and wasnt really convinced when I picked him in the first place however he has got some nice fixtures coming up.

I would be wary of Oscar. No penalties and rotation risk means he's overpriced atm imo.

I don't see Southampton as such an attacking team that u would require 2 of their players upfront. Can lose one imo. Tadic is safer for long term but Redmond allows u to upgrade elsewhere. Your call.

What's the biggest points hit you guys are willing to take? I get a bit nervy after a 4pt hit

I'd go for a -8 in a DGW but never more than a -4 in a single... I've seen lots of success with -8 and even -12 though so its just personal preference really!

This, I took -12 for a DGW last season because I was so far ahead and it backfired, thankfully the points gap was too big to be bridged

No issue with a 4pter if i reckon it can help me long term.. i would have to be left with no choice to take an 8pter.. never taken anything bigger i would feel physically sick going into a GW 12 points down DGW or not

Saturday morning, out went Hazard, Ibra and Foster... in came Firmino, Kane and Forster.

    Whoops!

Still, only the first week. You never know what the second may bring. Any other horror stories around?

I had a choice between Ibe, Tadic, Eriksen + cash for elsewhere, or Lamela, Redmond, Hazard. Went with the former 😉

That's the way it goes in these early weeks, still an okay start for me compared to last year.

      Identical defence.

The way I see it Valencia is nailed on this week and Stones is nailed to the bench.

So between Amat, Friend and Kone for 2 spots.

Think Amat edges both for the fixture.

Friend v Kone is a toss up. I've gone Friend as I'm playing Gaston

65; Sánchez was a disappointment and could do with Giroud back asap.

          Good score!

Sanchez is so patchy. Had zero goals/assists when Arsenal smashed Villa GW38 too...

Watched the game. I would have had Oscar if I knew he was preferred over Cesc. He was dangerous and playing in that position at 7.5 makes him probably the best option at that price. Can't drop him after getting 90 minutes! That's exactly what we wanted isn't it?!

What we wanted was an PG 😉

I watched it as well, but imo he didn't get in a lot of dangerous positions. I was pretty sure he was going to start after his pre-season showings. Getting a free-kick was good though. And with Hazard basically admitting stealing the PK we can't be sure who will take it next time (wishful thinking i guess)

I'm going to try and resist a knee-jerk and save my ft.

    Got the following team:
    Forster. Heaton
    VVD. Friend. Pieters. Stones. Daniels
    Haz. Mahrez. Alli. Tadic. Capoue
    Negredo. Aguero. Gray

Decision to swap Redmond for Tadic hours before the deadline and bench Capoue costed me a lot

    1. Hold FT?
    2. Tadic - Redmond?
    3. Alli - Coutinho?

    Would appreciate any help. Thanks

What did you make of Everton's attack? Their only goal was a dodgy Barkley FK.

Will they score against the Baggies?

Dodgy indeed. I'd only want Lukaku out of the lot tbh and his head is turned. Avoid for now which is a shame considering their fixtures

They looked solid but toothless. Deulofeu one of the bright sparks.

I think so. Brom will probably be more attacking at home, akin to end of last season, and I expect Everton to notch a couple.

      2-2

Everton Defender is the way to go I think...as even in set pieces...Mori and William will provide some threat...that being said..giving Deulofeu another week in my team

By all accounts, Chelsea fans were very happy with Oscar's performance with some claiming he was their motm. He also created the most chances in the team. Owners - hold!

    Hi Everyone

Only concerns with my team this week are Townsend and Vardy. With 1 ITB.
I'm happy to keep Vardy this week, because if/when i take him out it will be for Kane or Ibra if i move fund around.

    Should I:
    1) Save FT
    2) Townsend ---> Ramirez (Have Tadic so don't want a Redmond double up vs Utd)
    3) Townsend to Lamela

I'm probably saving the FT, just want to hear some opinions. Thanks 🙂

Anything you would change here, pre gw2?

    Foster (jakup)
    Azpi, Walker, RFM (friend, Smith)
    Hazard, firmino, lamela, feghouli (Redmond)
    Aguero, Vardy, Gray

    Thinking gray > negredo

I'd invest in a playing fourth mid.

Is this front 7 good enough for next week you think?

    Hazard Firmino Alli Redmond
    Aguero Vardy Gray

You guys convinced me to keep Vardy another week 😀 Might be good, then I also have the Lukaku option as well, rather than just Costa

If Leicester start playing better. Fixtures don't mean anything for an out form player. But we'll see how they do against Arsenal. No Koscielny would help 😀

ARS for the win but Vardy to nick a goal or two 😛

Hi! Should I make some changes? Is liverpool midfielder must have (Firmino, Coutinho, Mane)?
Keep vardy? Keep Feghouli? Please help 😀

    Foster / Heaton
    Valencia / Stones / Pieters / Friend / McAuley
    Townsend / Hazard / Redmond / Lamela / Feghouli
    Gray / Kun / Vardy

Can upgrade Feghouli to Coutinho or Townsend to Mane. Liverpool certainly seem to be attacking. Only demerit being points might be distributed.

Yeah I was thinking that Feghouli to Coutinho but points be distributed for sure. I want to give Townsend second change for nice upcoming fixtures.

How long is Feghouli out for? based on that use your FT...if he is fit for next GW, then save FT, else Use

If I go without Hazard this week and save my FT.. keeping Ayew and Vardy.. then next week I have a mini-WC effectively with a hit or two.. Be patient IM, be patient..

Hmm... it's a toughie alright. I don't feel confident in anyone to know what to do. All I know is I fancy Rondon, but don't want to lose any of Kun - Ibra - Vardy.

A red card or little niggly wrist injury or something would clear things up 😛

Firmino and Vardy to Coutinho and Ibra worth a hit?

Nope, but if you're going to take a hit think it's best early on with so many others doing the same to refine their teams

Playing in a draft league and my team is:

    Foster
    Williams / Stones / Kone
    Martial / Alli / Hazard / Redmond
    Vardy* / Aguero / Gray

    4.0; Capoue / Friend / Souare

Is it worth doing Vardy -> Costa? Costa is currently available.
