The ScoutCast – Episode 238 – Spooked

Whether it’s Pep’s rotation, Jonty’s runaway facial hair or a rogue horse in Andy’s front garden, the ScoutCast crew are decidedly spooked in this week’s Halloween episode.

Downed by a bout of Labyrinthitis – which is as nasty as it sounds – I’m forced to duck out as Jonty, Andy, Granville and Az run riot.

Your community questions help to keep them in check, forcing the quartet to once again assess City rotation, while giving views on Chelsea’s big-hitters, a Foxes revival and a slew of budget defenders.

Jonty rolls out his “ghouls imminent” table, while Andy unknowingly mocks my affliction from afar with back-to-back ear puns; in between they preview the weekend’s action to reveal their captain and transfer picks.

This ScoutCast was first beamed live via our YouTube channel on Tuesday night. Be sure to subscribe to get notice of future live episodes.

If you’re a traditional type, you can acquire the mp3 audio version via this link on the first player below, or take in the full visual experience via the second player below.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

      lol he's back.

A striker that has Giroud as competition and is invariably subbed before the 75th minute, and doesn't haul. And has Man City and Spurs up next.

Please tell me how we're missing out.

      - Too many 2 pointers
      - Plays for Arsenal
      - Only plays 60-70, so flipping Giroud can come on
      - Spurs, Arsenal, Burnley (A) and Man United in the next 5!
      - Plays for Arsenal (Yes, mentioned it twice)

yet one of his next 5 fixtures is against Arsenal.........................................

i had him since the start , but i finally lost patience with him after his latest captain failure for me (the 3rd in a row from him) , in fairness he did also get me my best captain haul of the season too with 26pts in gw6 , but that's nowhere near good enough returns to justify his price

I think it's a matter of too many other options at that Poston with better form and/or fixtures. Kane, Aguero, Morata, Lukaku all seem better picks, while Firmino and Vardy provide better value.

I'm wondering whether to do Carrick > RLC for a hit? I know it sounds a stupid question in isolation but this is my team:

    Fab (Elliot)
    Bavies Jones Azpi Maguire (Honeymonster)
    Sane Sterling Richarlison (Tarroll) (Carrick)
    Kane Kun Morata

    0FT 0.4m ITB

I'm 80% certain that Kane and Bavies will play but I expect one of Sane, Sterling or Kun may not. With only Tarroll on the bench I have no playing 2nd sub and RLC is a player I want long term anyway to solve that problem. I have to sell Maguire next GW which is when RLC starts his good run with a home match vs Everton so I will likely take a hit then anyway.

My only issue is that with the IB I am risking one of my other players getting injured in which case I might not want RLC at all if I need to redistribute funds. I suppose if tt happens I could always shift Tarroll or Honeymonster instead. It would be annoying to only field 10 players and miss out on RLC's 2pts from the bench but equally annoying to get an injury and find I can't do the transfers I want because of the 0.2m I spent on the upgrade.

    Any help appreciated.

I don't like the formation is what I'm saying.

There are a wealth of midfield options at the minute I think playing a midfield three with Richarlison third is light.

I don't see what you gain by doing it either.

GW11 DS Stats and Clean Sheet Odds

Last week the Doosra Stats highlighted Arsenal (460DS) and Liverpool (443DS) fixtures as the easiest of the week followed by Man City (304DS) and just under the radar came Chelsea (272DS).
Arsenal won 2-1 against Swansea, Liverpool won 3-0 their fixture with Huddersfield. Man City were 2-3 winners against WBA and Chelsea came out 1-0 victorious with their match against Bournemouth.
    http://www.fantasyfootballscout.co.uk/comment/16813294

GW11 DS stats came in with:
    ARS: mci -206
    BOU: new -203
    BRI: swa 41
    BUR: sou -161
    CHE: MUN 232
    CPL: tot -618
    EVE: WAT 309
    HUD: WBA 19
    LEI: stk -88
    LIV: whm 249
    MCY: ARS 206
    MUN: che -232
    NEW: BOU 203
    SOT: BUR 161
    STK: LEI 88
    SWA: BRI -41
    TOT: CPL 618
    WAT: eve -309
    WBA: hud -19
    WHU: LIV -249
(Doosra gives a more detailed explanation of these numbers here http://www.fantasyfootballscout.co.uk/comment/16458109)

So no prizes for guessing the standout fixture of the week being Spurs at home to Crystal Palace. I just never expected to be such a gulf in behind. Everyone seems to fall just below my self-inforced "safe" line of 350DS.
I (still) don't trust the next best of Everton (309DS) against Watford, well not until they at least show some resemblence of some sort of form. Liverpool (249DS) next, away to West Ham could be anything and then really scraping the fixture barrel comes Chelsea (232DS) who host Man United.

Clean sheet odds: Implied chance of a clean sheet
    Southampton 1.83 55%
    Tottenham 2.0 50%
    Swansea 2.40 42%
    Huddersfield 2.50 40%
    Newcastle 2.50 40%
    Everton 2.70 37%
    West Brom 2.70 37%
    Chelsea 2.80 36%
    Liverpool 2.80 36%
    Man City 2.87 35%
    Brighton 3.20 31%
    Man Utd 3.30 30%
    Stoke 3.30 30%
    Leicester 3.50 29%
    Watford 4.20 24%
    Bournemouth 4.33 23%
    Burnley 4.50 22%
    West Ham 6.50 15%
    Arsenal 11.0 9%
    Crystal Palace 11.0 9%
    (Supplied by Betfair)

Hope that helps in some way for your selections in GW11. Good luck to everyone!

It's down to the ratings behind the projections surely they don't take account the fact Everton are completely shite.

Well in a way yes and yes lol
The way I understand it (correct me if I'm wrong) it's because their home form of last year was better than Watford's away form?

                Last year is ancient history.

There is enough data from the first ten weeks to make an adjustment imo but they aren't my numbers.

Not going to lie and say that hasn't been looked into. If I knew what adjustment to make I would do it and run that and Doosra's together in the one post, but my time is REALLY stretched and limited atm.

Maybe it's something I'll look into further in the future but nuff respeckt to the man for getting the numbers out there in the first place 😉

Maybe it's worthwhile to also consider bookmaker's odds, since they'll take into account current form.

On Betfair this week the only odds-on teams are Spurs (2/7), ManC (2/5) & Lpool (4/6).

And while ManC and Everton are both favourites to win their matches, there's a big difference in the odds (2/5 compared to 6/5).

You notice the CS odds too are hilarious too. How often this season will we see the likes of Huddersfield above Man United and the likes of Arsenal not even making double figures.

Think we could be in store for a "weird" week...

How do I see West Ham in any week? With hope in my heart and a prayer on my lips no matter who we play *sigh*

All joking apart, that could be anything. If we get the West Ham that actually wants to play (no matter who the personel) could end up with 3 points. Then again which Liverpool we going to see turn up might have a bearing on the outcome too...

CS odds suggest there will be goals on both sides with Liverpool victorious. At the end of the day I would see a point as a victory tbh.
