Midfield Form Analysis – Gameweek 8-11

As we’re all very much aware, midfielders have been a real let-down this season for Fantasy managers thus far. Aside from Aaron Ramsey’s sensational displays for Arsenal, there have very few options for us to look upon as reliable assets – Adam Lallana’s recent rise to prominence has already persuaded over 78,000 Fantasy Premier League (FPL) managers to snap up the Southampton skipper, despite games against Arsenal, Chelsea, City and Spurs in the next six Gameweeks:

With this in mind, in this latest article for members, we‘ve turned to the Custom Stats Tables feature in the members area and assessed the midfielders with the most impressive data over the last four Gameweeks. For the purposes of this table, and in order to include some of the standout players across key categories, we set the bar to ensure each of our 16 candidates registered a minimum of 5 shots, 5 chances created, 2 shots on target and 1 shot inside the box between Gameweeks 8-11.

May I remind all those who are captaining Hazard against my Hammers this week what the score at the Boleyn was last year? 🙂

If Lampard were ever to get injured, he would be the first Midfielder in my squad. (as he would be first in line on penos).

Is he? I thought Hazard was second in line. He's certainly taken a few before and I'm sure Torres was on the pitch for them.

    Team for this week :

    Marshall (Boruc)
    Shaw Coleman Ward (Dawson Chester)
    Gerrard Coutinho Ramsay Oscar (JWP)
    Giroud Suarez (V) Rooney (C)

1FT 0.7 in the bank. I went a little bit crazy with 3 liv attack last week which im kind of regretting now. I dont know if this is viable long term although after everton game expect them to score loads over next couple fixtures. Also worried about giroud and my awful defensive fixtures this week . Which one is my priority...?

    A) Cout to hazard ( alternativley could wait for wally next week)
    B) Giroud to Remy/Tekkers
    C) defensive move (probably shaw to newcastle defender )

      Wait for wally.
remy i think is best choice with 2 good fixtures to follow.
dont trust newcastle defense - 14 saves says it all, newcastle actually defended poorly and the goalkeeper bailed them out. So if you want a new defense choice go for krul cause of the extra saves he's gonna have to make, and also because he is the most nailed on.

look at wad happen to benteke..ppl transfer him in as soon as he is fit..and he has not hit form yet..the points u lose there is not worthy. its good to have walcott as a differential if he indeed explode in the first game..but chances is that he will start on the bench or wait for a few match b4 finding form. not going to buy him yet esp if u have ozil

I am waiting on this move and see what happens - he might even get injured again right away.

Not sure what arsenals midfield will be with him returning - they seem to have too many mids and danger is the points get spread around which leaves us with a choice of having 3 arsenal mids.

    A) Mirallas -> Walcott
    B) Mirallas -> Hazard
    C) Toure -> GJ
    D) Toure -> Evra

    Baines, Terry, Ward
    Nasri, Ramsey, Mirallas, Snodgrass

Not injured, but out of form and may get dropped for Deulofeu.

Problem with Evra/GJ is they have a couple of tricky ties up next, so both can probably wait. I guess I think A and B have more upside. A is a risk though as I doubt he'd play 90 mins

True but I think it's more of a concern that an attacking team like Liverpool or Arsenal tend to concede cheap goals at the death. Like when they're 3/4 nil up, they'll still push for that next goal.

    The Bookies Picks:

These picks are something I'm going to be doing on a Monday or Tuesday before each game week. This insight into the bookies gives us their views on who they think are most likely to keep a clean sheet or score a goal at any time. Their detailed research on statistics and data can surely help point us in the right direction to gain those points we all desire.

    To Keep a Clean Sheet:
    Hull: 2.20
    Man United: 2.20
    Arsenal: 2.25
    Chelsea: 2.25
    Stoke: 2.37
    Man City: 2.50
    Newcastle: 2.50
    West Brom: 2.62
    Swansea: 2.75
    Liverpool: 3.40
    Everton: 3.75
    Fulham: 3.75
    Sunderland: 3.75
    Crystal Palace: 4.00
    Aston Villa: 4.33
    Norwich: 5.50
    West Ham: 5.50
    Cardiff: 6.00
    Tottenham: 6.00
    Southampton: 6.50

Goal Scorers: These players are from the captains poll.
    To Score at Anytime:
    Sergio Aguero: 1.90
    Loïc Rémy: 2.10
    Robin Van Persie: 2.20
    Olivier Giroud: 2.30
    Daniel Sturridge: 2.40
    Luis Suarez: 2.40
    Álvaro Negredo: 2.50
    Wayne Rooney: 2.50
    Romelu Lukaku: 2.60
    Christian Benteke: 2.75
    Aaron Ramsey: 3.00
    Stéphane Sessègnon: 3.25
    Eden Hazard: 3.40
    Mesut Özil: 4.00
    Oscar: 4.00
    Robbie Brady: 4.00
    Yohan Cabaye: 4.50
    Robert Snodgrass: 5.50

    The Bookies Team: The Rules
The bookies team formation will be 4-3-3 each week and it doesn't comply with FPL's budget constraints, as I feel that it'd change a lot of what I'm trying to portray.
Goal Keeper: this will be selected from the team who has the lowest odds to keep a clean sheet.
Defenders: this will be selected from the four highest teams who have the lowest odds to keep a clean sheet - the keeper and one defender will be from the same team.
Midfielders + Forwards: this will be selected from the three midfielders and three forwards who have the lowest odds to score at anytime from the captain poll.

    Bet365's XI:

    Harper
    Davies - Evra - Mertesacker - Terry
    Ramsey - Sessegnon - Hazard
    Aguero - Remy - RVP

    The Bet:
If I was to put £1 on the goal keeper and all the defenders teams to keep a clean sheet and all the midfielders and forwards to score at any time I'd bag myself an astonishing £7,130! But bet365 won't let you put this bet on!

I'm also going to place those bets not as an accumulator, but as single bets, along with the scouts picks to see which ones, if any, are more profitable.

Not on bet365 when I wrote the previous 'Bookies Picks'

            Last time it was:

            Liverpool - 1.80

            Southampton - 1.83

Ok, I get your point. But that's just one week. It might be different over a longer period of time. Plus that's only the defenders. The midfielders and forwards might do well.

Agree bookies are just there to make money but these are as good a proxy as you will get on the actual relative likelihood of a clean sheet and goal. Not sure judging on one week is giving a fair data sample of whether these are accurate over time.

Keep in mind, Bookies don't try to even out the game, they try to even out the betting.

For example, a lot of people may bet on Man U regardless of the opponent and the odds. Therefore, the odds will typically shift against Man U disproportionately to get people to bet on the other side to even the betting. (Making it look like Man U are a bigger favorite than they actually are.)

Having said that, a winner chosen with your gut as opposed to your head always tastes sweeter.

        Good Luck!

Thoughts on Barkley? Everton seem to be lacking that cutting edge without him, but also seem more defensively sound. If he starts at the weekend would he be worth holding onto or should I get rid asap?

I know it's all speculation but hey it's the DZ during international break.

I discovered yesterday that, yes, tot concedes few shots, but 50% of the shots they concede are in the box. More and more tempting (C) Agüero(other strikers at the moment Suarez and Tekkers)

    Capt Aguero Suarez or Rooney

Not looking forward to making captain decision this week.
Who to choose out of the big three?

Suarez Tough fixture away from home , could be a card fest , he sure to be up for it , but will it be in a good way?. Private jet to bring him back early , but could still have a touch of jet lag

Aguero , Tough fixture but they are at home , Tottenham not conceding many so upside could be limited , again has plenty of travel to overcome

Rooney The easiest fixture and united appear to be firing up , Dosent have to worry about travel .Has to Share points with RVP though and Cardiff not been too poor at home , although perhaps a little lucky not to concede more.

Have had armband on Rooney all week but the news of an early private jet for Suarez has me wavering

City just are not the same without Silva , Tottenham hve plenty of good defensive mids and will park the bus.
Cardiff will try similar against utd but it far less likely to work

It between Suarez and Rooney for me. Still have warm fuzzy feelings from capt Suarez for his two big hauls so very tempted

I'm pretty sure City will score. They need to bounce back from the other week. I would take great pleasure in seeing Spurs getting trounced.

I will make transfers only thinking about fixtures upto gw20

So from gws17-20 my transfers will be extremely short term, with the knowledge I can sort it immediately if needed.

Hopefully all these short term punts become must have superstars in which case I'll delay the wildcard a couple of weeks!

For me it will be towards the end of January, depending on any important transfers.

If Falcao signs for Chelsea for example, I'd be tempted to play my WC as soon as the paperwork is signed. Keep an eye on the latest transfer news.

There is no optimum time, although some would argue to use as late as possible to take advantage of any major moves in the transfer window. Entirely depends on the state of your team

One thing that may be useful is waiting until the last minute by which time most people in your mini leagues will have played theirs. So depending on where you sit on your mini league, this can help shape your squad.

Saints fan too. I was at Emirates last season for equivalent fixture! If Saints turn up and aren't intimidated and if Arsenal have an off day then we will nick something. Otherwise I agree!

A draw is quite likely in a game involving few goals, but a draw in fpl is much, much less likely as there are higher scores. Not to mention there HAS to be a winner in each match 😉
