Scharner steps up his fitness, Moore scores again, Volz and Montella turn out for Fulham. Get the inside knowledge from this week’s reserve outings here…
Paul Scharner stepped up his recovery from injury with a full 90-minutes for Wigan’s reserves against Bolton. Unfortunately for Scharner, it was his own goal that lost the game for Wigan. Fitz Hall also returned to action in this game, after a 3-match suspension. Both our likely to figure in Wigan’s game at Charlton.
Fulham fielded Volz, Queudrue, Knight, Collins John, Jensen and Montella in their reserve game with Reading. All seem likely to threaten for places in the lineup for the Portsmouth game, with Montella likely to start.
Reading had Andre Bikey in their lineup for that match, after the centre-back had been dropped from the first 11 for the game against Portsmouth. It seems that Duberry has seen off the challenge of Bikey to claim the first team spot.
Portsmouth’s Noe Pamarot made his comeback from injury in the reserve defeat to Watford. Pamarot played the full 90 and will now come into contention for the game at Fulham, although with Stefanovic returning at Reading last weekend, it seems unlikely that Pamarot will regain his place back in the side.
West Ham’s Paul Konchesky seems to be relegated to the reserves after turning out for the stiffs in their match with Charlton on Tuesday night. Konchesky had got back in the side before McCartney returned to the side for the victory at Blackburn last weekend.
Luke Moore scored another couple of goals as Villa’s reserves beat a youthful Arsenal lineup 3-0. That’s 7 goals in 6 reserve games since his return from injury. With Villa struggling for Premiership goals, it surely can’t be long before Moore gets that first team call. He’s certain to be on the bench at least against Everton.
