Preston 1 Everton 1

Anichebe hit the Everton equaliser but is fellow striker James Vaughan who is in the news having suffered a shoulder injury that could keep him out for months. Jagielka made his debut and his first appearance was at centre-back, coming on for Stubbs at half-time.

Örgryte 1 Man City 4

Another goal glut from Sven’s side. Is this a sign of uncharacteristic things to come? Bianchi scored on his debut against the Swedish opponents, along with goals from fellow Italian Corradi, one from Georgios Samaras and a fourth from Academy starlet, Shaleum Logan. Vassell limped off with an apparent knee injury and there was an impressive debut for Fernandes in midfield.

Eastleigh 0 Portsmouth 1

Benjani grabbed the winner tonight as a strong Pompey side sneaked past non-league Eastleigh in Pompey’s second friendly in two days. Kranjcar appeared to be the pick of Pompey’s performers placing more doubt over Taylor’s Fantasy value.

Portsmouth Lineup:
Begovic, Lauren, Campbell, Distin, Hreidarsson, Cranie, Mendes, Hughes, Muntari, Kranjcar, Benjani

Darlington 0 Sunderland 2

Keane’s side started their pre-season campaign with 2-0 win over Darlington. Ross Wallace and Anthony Stokes got the goals in a game which saw Greg Halford make his debut at right-back and Kavanagh play his first game for six months. Keane adopted a 4-4-2 formation with Leadbitter on the right of midfield.

Sunderland Lineup: Sunderland: Fulop (Ward 45), Halford (Kay 45), Nosworthy (Varga 45), Collins (Donoghue 45), Clarke, Leadbitter (Hysen 45), Kavanagh (Yorke 45), Whitehead (Miller 45), Wallace, Murphy (Stokes 45), Connolly (John 45).

FC Heindenheim 1846 0 Birmingham 1

Birmingham won their second game on their pre-season tour of Germany with Forssell again on the scoresheet. He pounced when the Heindenheim spilled an O’Connor drive across goal. Kapo made his debut for Birmingham as a second-half substitute.

Birmingham Lineup: Taylor, Kelly, Parnaby, Sadler, Taylor, Danns, Muamba (Johnson 55), Nafti (Aluko 78), Vine (Kapo 64), OConnor (Kilkenny 70), Forssell.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.
