I’ve just updated my midfield shortlist for this weekend with Arsenal’s Alexander Hleb. An interesting one because, although he’s hardly been finding the net on a regular basis since his arrival at the Emirates, he seems likely to be played in an attacking role just off Van Persie at weekend. His performances in that position in pre-season have been good enough to suggest he will be pivotal to Arsenal’s play against Fulham, indicating that, while he might not find the net, he could have a hand in more than a few opportunities. Hleb has also gone on record to say that he’s aiming for 10-goals this season, a big ask but that certainly suggests he’ll have a more direct approach this season.

Just a reminder, you can view my current shortlist rankings for each position in the right-hand menu – I update this on more or less a daily basis. I’ll be looking at my Shortlists and Scout picks for this weekend’s games in detail in a post later this evening.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.
