Here’s an interesting bit of news for those contemplating taking a punt on Pascal Chimbonda. According to reports today [source], The Spurs defender is apparently becoming unsettled at the club’s recent interest in right-backs and has reportedly challenged the club management only to be told they see him as a centre-back.

Spurs have already signed Cardiff City’s Chris Gunter and had an £8million bid for Rangers’ Alan Hutton rejected. Both players are naturally right-sided full-backs. You can kind of see Chimbonda’s pont.

It is a little surprising that Spurs would be looking at this position given that Chimbonda is widely regarded as one of the Premiership’s best in that role. However, he has filled in more than adequately at centre-back recently which could suggest that there is a slither of truth in the claims that Ramos has him earmarked for that position.

That would not only limit his foraging runs forward, thus limiting his assists, it would also put him in competition with King, Dawson and Kaboul for a starting role. Clearly that would be a concern to any fantasy manager even vaguely considering bringing him in.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.
