Continuing my attempts to bring you all the news and lineups from the pre-season games, here is another round-up of games to bring you bang up to date. There’s a lot to get through so there follows a blast of news for those short on time. The rest of you can click “continue” to read the full story.

Another lacklustre Liverpool peformance. United see out a draw against the Chiefs. A Duff hat-trick has Keegan smiling and fantasy managers wondering. Zamora fires a beauty on his debut as Fulham see off Celtic. Chopra faces 3-match ban after seeing red against Sporting. Bellamy sparkles again for the Hammers. Defeat for Ince in Austria. A brace for Crouch as he gets things started with Defoe. And relax.

Saturday July 19

Wisla Krakow 1 Liverpool 1

Rafa’s side had to settle for a draw against the Polish champions, ending their 100% start to the pre-season. In what was another unconvincing performance from Liverpool, Voronin got the goal, his second of the summer, tucking home a rebound from his own effort after Benayoun picked him out.

Dossena was handed a debut at left-back while Babel got his first start of the pre-season after recovering from injury. Once again, Benitez gave his squad run-out, using a full team of subs in the second-half. Gerrard was of course absent with a groin injury while Degen also missed this one with a minor groin complaint.

The Euro 2008 Spanish contingent of Torres, Alonso, Arbeloa and Reina were still on a prolonged break. None of those players will return when Liverpool take on Hertha Berlin on Tuesday. With a number of the Liverpool players, including Voronin and Pennant, said to be targets for other clubs, it could be a while before the Liverpool lineup that takes the field in next month’s Champions League Qualifier, begins to take shape.

Liverpool vs Wisla Krakow:

Cavalieri (Martin 70), Dossena (Insua 63), Agger (Skrtel 45), Carragher (Hyypia 45), Darby (Hobbs 70), Leto (Aurelio 45), Leiva (Mascherano 45), Plessis (Spearing 45), Benayoun (Pacheco 63), Babel (Pennant 45), Voronin (Kuyt 70).

Oostende 1 Hull City 1

Geovanni got his first goal in Hull colours as Phil Brown’s side earned a draw against their Belgian opposition. The Brazilian powered home a header from six-yards out from a Ryan France cross. He looked lively throughout his 45-minute appearance and is certainly shaping up to be the key target amongst the Hull squad. He is classed as a midfielder in most fantasy games but was played up front with Folan in this game.

Elsewhere, Brown gave debuts to new signings Boateng and Mendy, while trialist Sebastion Cejag took the goalkeeping jersey in the first half. He rotated his troops for the second half and the Hull performance petered out as a result.

Hull take on Chesterfield next on Tuesday evening.

Hull City vs Oostende:
First Half: Cejag, France, Turner, Cooper, Doyle, Fagan, Ashbee, Marney, Barmby, Geovanni, Folan.

Second Half: Myhill, Mendy, Brown, Plummer, Doyle (Atkinson 70), Garcia, Boateng, Welsh, Hughes, Featherstone, Windass.

Kaizer Chiefs 1 Man United 1

Chris Eagles earned the Champions a draw against a lively South African outfit. Eagles converted a Tevez cross for the second-half equaliser after Kaizer Chiefs had gone ahead with a first half penalty. The penalty was conceded by Gary Neville who once again turned out at right-back in the absence of Wes Brown. Brown is due to return to the UK following the sad news concerning the death of his sister.

Ferdinand and Silvestre also withdraw from the team late on with knocks but, elsewhere, it was a strong United lineup that took the field. Next up, Ferguson’s men take on Orlando Pirates in Durban on Tuesday. Ferdinand is set to return for that one having missed both of United’s friendlies so far with a back injury.

Man United vs Kaizer Chiefs:

Kuszczak; Neville (Simpson 62), Vidic, Brown (Evans 69), O’Shea; Fletcher, Scholes, Giggs, Eagles (Campbell 62); Tevez, Rooney (Gibson 69).

Hartlepool 1 Newcastle 4

Damien Duff fired a hat-trick as Newcastle got their pre-season off to a flyer. Newcastle were behind before Duff curled his first effort. New signing Danny Guthrie then came off the bench in the second half to set up Duff’s second, before claiming his first goal in Newcastle colours. Duff completed his hat-trick with a curling close range effort.

Duff has reportedly shed some weight over the summer and this is his frist pre-season for four years. Could he be an unlikely sleeper and worth a punt?

Guthrie is also worth watching. Another mid-price midfielder, the former Liverpool man is clearly fancied by Keegan who wanted to start with him in this one but decided against it with the midfielder complaiing of sore shins. Both he and Duff are certainly worth monitoring in Newcastle’s forthcoming friendlies. Keegan takes his side to Doncaster on Saturday.

Newcastle vs Hartlepool:
Given (Forster 65), Edgar (Tozer 62), Enrique (Guthrie 45), Taylor, Cacapa (Morris 72), Duff, Milner, Butt, N’Zogbia, Martins (Ameobi 45), Smith.

Fulham 3 Celtic 1

A fine win for Fulham in a game which saw Bobby Zamora fire a fine debut goal. Nevland got the first from a Gera pass on the right he then turned provider for Zamora’s fine left-foot volley. Celtic pulled one back before half-time with a Robson free-kick. Andreasen wrapped up the game from a Murphy free-kick in the second half.

Hodgson included five new signings in his eleven. Stockdale remained in goal after a good performance against Southend in midweek, whilst Paintsil featured at right back. Gera and Andranik joined Bullard and Davies in midfield and Zamora got a debut up front alongside Nevland.

Aside from Zamora, it was Gera and Paintsil who impressed most down the Fulham right. They are shaping up to be on the team sheet come August 16 on the evidence of this game.

Hodgson now takes his side to Korea to face Busan l’Park on Wednesday and Ulsan Hyundai on Saturday.

Fulham vs Celtic:
Stockdale, Pantsil (Volz 75), Konchesky (Kallio 75), Hangeland, Hughes (C), Andranik (Andreasen 45), Gera (Cook 65), Bullard (Murphy 45), Davies (Dempsey 45), Nevland (Healy 65), Zamora (Johnson 45).

FC St Veit 0 Wigan 3

Goals from Camara, Sibierski and Brown got Wigan’s pre-season off to a winning start against the Austrian part-timers.

Bruce fielded some youngsters in this first friendly with Montrose, Kupisz and Cotterill getting starts. He also gave a start to forgotten man, Henri Camara. He started up front with Sibierski and duly scored one, set up another and looked lively all afternoon. Camara opened the scoring after latching onto a Montrose through ball before setting up Sibierski for his goal. Brown then got his first goal for the club, converting a Boyce pass.

This was a first outing for Paul Scharner with a face mask protecting his summer nose operation. Elsewhere, Kapo wasn’t risked in this one as he is apparently recovering from a wrist operation. Fellow new boy, De Ridder, was an unused sub.

Wigan take on Eintracht Frankfurt on Tuesday evening with Bruce promising to ring changes for that one.

Wigan vs FC St Veit:

Nash (Pollitt 46), Boyce, Bramble, Scharner, Kilbane; Cotterill, Brown, Montrose (Palacios 65), Kupisz; Sibierski, Camara (Valencia 65)

FC Cologne 4 West Brom 1

A second straight defeat for the Premiership newcomers who were victims of a goal blitz in this game – conceding four goals in 38 minutes. It was left to Craig Beattie to grab a consolation goal with 14 minutes remaining.

Mowbray went with a 4-3-3 with Bednar leading the line up front, flanked by Moore and Miller. The Baggies boss made six changes in the second-half but the game fizzled out, brightened only by Beattie’s goal from a Worrall pass.

The Baggies take on Shrewsbury next on Tuesday evening.

West Brom vs FC Cologne:

Danek (Daniels 45); Hoefkens (Hodgkiss 64), Barnett, Clement (Pele 45), Robinson (Tininho 64); Morrison (Slusarski 64), Greening (Worrall 45), Kim (MacDonald 75); Moore (Brunt 45), Bednar (Beattie 45), Miller (Dorrans 45)

Cambridge 4 Everton 2

Two first half goals from 19-year-old Lukas Jutkiewicz were not enough for Moyes’ men who slipped to a bitterly disappointing defeat.

One positive that Moyes can take from this game was the return of Mikel Arteta. He showed some encouraging flashes in his 18-minute appearance, his first since an operation on his troublesome stomach muscle injury.

Everton were missing first team regulars but they badly need to sing new blood. That was emphasised by Moyes’ comments on Monday that confirmed that he is looking to bring in “five or six” new players.

Pienaar and Yakubu are set to return from their extended summer break due to internation commitments. Yobo has been handed more time for family reasons however. Anichebe meanwhile, has left for Beijing where he’ll be representing Nigeria in the Olympics. He’ll miss Everton’s opening two fixtures.

Moyes takes his side to Preston on Tuesday evening.

Everton vs Cambridge:
Ruddy, Irving, Lescott, Jagielka, Valente (Molyneux 72), Neville, Rodwell, van der Meyde (Agard 72), O’Kane (Arteta 72), Johnson, Jutkiewicz (Baxter 50)

Barnet 1 Arsenal 2

Wenger took a young side to the usual pre-season fixture at Underhill. Goals from Nacer Barazite and Jay Simpson earned the victory in a game which saw Sagna step up his fitness after the ankle injury suffered against Chelsea at the end of the season.

Traore was employed on the left wing, a role that Wenger has clearly earmaked for him. Elsewhere Bendtner and Walcott started up front. The Arsenal boss later indicated that he was looking for more games from his young Englishman, hinting that he could be in line for a starting role with a wide position the more likley role.

Arsenal vs Barnet:
Almunia (Mannone 45 (Szczesny 74), Clichy (Ogogo 45 (Dunne 74), Nordtvelt (G Hoyte 45), Sagna (Steer 45), Traore (Simpson 45), Hoyte (Rodgers 45), Denilson (Randall 45), Lansbury (Wilshre 45), Ramsey (Coquellin 45), Walcott (Barazite 45), Bendtner (Fonte 45).

Sporting Lisbon 1 Sunderland 3

Keane’s men came from behind Sunderland in the Algarve to win the Albufeira Cup but saw Chopra red-carded and Keane himself banished to the stands in a stormy affair.

Sunderland fell behind in the first half but turned things around in the second after Keane rang the changes. O’Donovan got the ball rolling from a Stokes cross before the game entered a crazy last 10 minutes. First Chopra was given a straight red for an allegedly dangerous tackle. Keane was dismissed to the stands as a result of the protest that followed, missing Sunderland’s goal that put them in front. Nosworthy heading his first goal for the club. Stokes then added a third with 5 minutes left on the clock.

Keane is hoping that there will be no repercussions from Chopra’s dismissal, although a 3-match ban is possible. If the Portuguese Football Association report the incident then a ban will be issued.

Sunderland take on Vitoria on Wednesday night next.

Sunderland vs Sporting Lisbon:

Gordon (Fulop 46), Bardsley (Anderson 46), Nosworthy, Collins, Wallace (Higginbotham 46), Yorke (Kavanagh 46), Edwards (O’Donovan 46), Reid (Leadbitter 46), Whitehead (Chopra 62), Richardson (Stokes 46), Murphy (Prica 62)

Columbus Crew 1 West Ham 3

Goals from Dean Ashton, Kyel Reid and an own goal gave Curbishley’s men victory in the US.

A few things to note from this one. Firstly Bellamy continues to impress. While he didn’t get on the scoresheet this time around he set up the third goal with great pace and skill and he buzzed around and caused a nuisance all day. He’s looking very sharp. The other interesting point is that Faubert is now taking West Ham’s corners on both the left and right and is generally a major figure from set-pieces. He seems set for regular starts on the right and could well offer decent returns as a mid-price option.

The Hammers remain in the US and take on a MLS All-Stars team on Thursday.

West Ham vs Columbus Crew:

Green (Walker 75), Neill, Ferdinand (N’Gala 84), Davenport (Spence 70), Widdowson, Faubert (Stokes 75), Noble (Mullins 57), Parker (Collison 70), Reid (Stanislas 57), Bellamy (Miller 87), Ashton (Cole 46)

Monday July 21

Hoffenheim 3 Blackburn 1

Rovers slipped defeat amongst the mountains of Austria.

Once again Ince changed his side at half-time but put out the stronger lineup in the first half – including a Roberts/Santa Cruz strike force. It wasn’t until the second half however that the goals went in. Rovers fell behind before McCarthy equalised with a volley. Two strikes for Hoffenheim then followed as the game slipped away from Blackburn.

Robbie Fowler was given an opportunity as a second half sub and hit the bar with one effort. Samba missed the game with a back injury, Khizanishvili and Vogel had thigh complaints, whilst Bentley is back in England with a hamstring injury (apparently).

One further injury concern for Ince emerged in the shape of Gamst-Pedersen. He played a central midfield role but was forced off after just 34-minutes after being clattered.

Rovers have a tought test next as they travel to take on Benfica on Friday.

Blackburn vs Hoffenheim:

First Half: Friedel, Reid, Ooijer, Nelsen, Warnock, Derbyshire, Emerton, Pedersen (Judge 34), Treacy, Roberts, Santa Cruz.

Second Half: Brown, Kane, Nelsen, Warnock, Olsson, Judge (Hodge 75), Tugay, Mokoena, Gallagher (Peter 75), Fowler, McCarthy.

Bournemouth 1 Portsmouth 4

Harry paired Defoe and Crouch for the first time and with devastating effect. A brace from Crouch and a second half strike from Defoe added to a Muntari effort to see the Premiership side ease past Redknapp’s former club.

Muntari got things started for Portsmouth after Crouch, Diop and Defoe combined. Crouch netted from close range following a Defoe free-kick and grabbed a second from a Mendes corner. He then set up Defore, for the first of many goals to cap the performance.

A good start for the dream ticket front pairing. Redknapp’s excited and a million fantasy managers are taking note. One slight concern for the Pompey boss was the thigh injury suffered by new signing Glen Little that saw him subbed at half-time.

Portsmouth vs Bournemouth:

Ashdown; Johnson, Campbell, Pamarot (Ward 70), Hreidarsson (Nugent 61); Little (Lauren 45), Diop (Christophe 77), Mendes, Muntari (Ritchie 74); Crouch, Defoe

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.
