I’ve been updating the fantasy football game reviews over on the “Play Fantasy Football” page of late. Many of the reviews have been refreshed for the 2008 season and there has been some interesting rule changes made by a good few of the games.

Read on for a summary of the most notable changes made or visit the game reviews page where you’ll find the first of several new reviews I’ll be adding – the first of which is for Can You Kick It from the makers of the Fantasy Premier League game.

There will be more to come in the next week or so as I help you to find the right game for solo or mini-league play.

Fantasy League Pro

No major changes have been made to the format and rules, however the Fantasy League have extended the options open to League chairmen to allow them to set different scoring systems for their game. Chairman can select from the traditional Fantasy League scoring, one which includes penalties for red and yellow cards and one that increases the points scored by players playing away from home.

You The Manager

The biggest change here is that the transfer windows have been removed allowing managers to make their 15 transfers at any point over the season. The game has also introduced a cap on the number players allowed from each Premiership club – you are now limited to 3 players per club.

The Sun Dream Team

No major changes here except a bigger incentive to tempt the multi-entrant managers. The Sun is now giving away a staggering £1 million with £250,000 awarded to the winner.

Times Fantasy Football
The Times have added a lighter version of fantasy football to sit alongside their “advanced” Play the Game version. This fantasy football game includes both Premiership and Scottish Premier League sides, a captain system and a mediocre prize fund. I’ll be working on my “Play The Game” review very soon.

The Metro Fantasy Football

Some big rule changes in this one with Key contributions entering the scoring system and clean sheets getting a hike in importance. A clean, sortable player list, an increase in transfers and a new captain system adds further appeal.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.
