Although Dimitar Berbatov seems set for his United debut at Anfield this weekend, there is still plenty of doubt surrounding the likelihood of him starting the match.

United’s new striker is yet to start a Premiership match this season at Spurs and is yet to go through a training session with his new club having joined up with the Bulgarian squad last week.

Berbatov still has time. He was fit enough to turn out for Bulgaria at the weekend, completing 90 minutes in the 2-2 draw in Montenegro and will join up with his United team mates later this week.

However, with Tevez enjoying and completing just 30 minutes for Argentina at the weekend having been sent off, he would look likely to start at Anfield given that he will sit out the World Cup clash with Peru on Wednesday through suspension. Rooney meanwhile, has struggled for any kind of form but it would be hard to see Ferguson starting without such a talismanic figure in his lineup against Liverpool.

The smart money points to Berbatov starting his United career on the bench at Anfield then. That would certainly disappoint the 47,000 Fantasy Premier League managers who have so far transferred in the Bulgarian striker this week.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.
