Everton have lodged an appeal with the FA over Cahill’s red recieved in the Merseyside derby on Saturday.

Cahill was given a straight red for a “tackle” on Alonso after 80 minutes and faces an immediate three match ban, missing Premiership matches against Newcastle, Arsenal and United. The hearing will take place later this week.

The midfielder’s absence from the Everton lineup would likely force Moyes to shift to a 4-4-2, employing Saha up front with Yakubu – making both strikers decent short-term considerations against the Newcastle defence.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.
