One big caveat to the recent monthly picks arrives in the shape of gameweek 33 which right now finds two matches postponed due to the FA Cup semi finals, with a third postponement on the way.
However, all the signs are that the gameweek won’t be affected once the semi-final lineup is complete and the Premier League reschedule the fixtures. It all takes some explaining though, so strap yourselves in…
Currently, three sides are without a fixture in the gameweek – Chelsea, Everton and Wigan (who were due to play United). United already have an extra fixture in the gameweek with the home game with Portsmouth on Wednesday April 22, so they won’t be affected, although will miss out on a double fixture, unlike Portsmouth.
This will be extended to five teams (Chelsea were due to face Everton in the league) once we know who progresses from the Arsenal vs Hull quarter-final next Tuesday. Should Arsenal get through then their clash with Liverpool will be postponed, while Hull would miss their league encounter with Sunderland, should Phil Brown’s men make it.
This basically destroys any long-term strategy until we know exactly who will and won’t be involved. However, presumably the postponed games will also move to the Wednesday April 22 date, although that’s yet to be confirmed. That would see the gameweek remain intact. Only Wigan would the be left with a missing fixture.
I’ll talk more about this crucial gameweek when we have know who the final semi-finalist is, at which point the Premier League will hopefully confirm the new dates.
