Liverpool’s Martin Skrtel has given us and Rafa a pre-season scare by hobbling off after just 10 minutes of today’s friendly with Thailand. The Slovakian defender limped from the pitch clutching his hamstring as Liverpool themselves, limped to a 1-1 draw.
Skrtel will surely now suffer a number of weeks on the sidelines and his fitness could now be in doubt for the opening fixture at White Hart Lane.
Immediately thoughts turn to Daniel Agger who seems set to battle it out with Skrtel for the spot alongside Carragher in the heart of Liverpool’s defence. Should Skrtel miss much of pre-season, then it would appear that Agger would be unopposed for a starting role for the first few games making him an option as an initial fantasy signing. Long-term however, there will be continued doubt over Rafa’s first choice in this area and owners of Skrtel and Agger are surely set to play rotation roulette throughout the season.
