Okay, this might be scaremongering but, given the likelihood of thousands of fantasy managers banking on Robin Van Persie this weekend, this has to be reported. As revealed and discussed in the comments in this morning’s preamble, the Arsenal striker could be a doubt going into this weekend’s fixture with Blackburn as it’s come to light that his wife is imminently expecting the birth of their second child.

This report confirms that Van Persie could miss Holland’s international with Australia next weekend, with the Dutch national coach leaving him out of the squad if Van Persie’s wife has not yet done the business. With that in mind, we have to consider that Wenger may be forced, or even choose to leave Van Persie out of the side on Sunday, particularly now that Bendtner is available as an option down the middle. Indeed, Wenger was only discussing Bendtner’s merits on Friday. Mmmm.

This could be nothing to worry about – but certainly if you’re thinking of handing Van Persie your Fantasy Premier League armband (and judging by the poll, thousands are), you should consider this as a possibility. It’s a horrible scenario (our dilemma, not child birth). If Van Persie plays, he threatens to score big, but if you’re giving him the FPL captaincy, it’s worth sorting your emergency strategy just in case. That doesn’t help me much – I’d end up with Drogba or Gerrard as my captain either way. Ridiculous.

If Mrs Van Persie’s midwife could post an update in comments by 11.30 it would be much appreciated. And Robin – don’t break a metatarsal when you put the Ikea cot together.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.
