Wayne Rooney is the latest major injury concern for fantasy managers after he pulled out of the England squad for their qualifier with Belarus on Wednesday. Rooney suffered a calf injury in the 1-0 defeat in Ukraine on Saturday. The striker has returned to Old Trafford after undergoing a scan and will now have to be considered a doubt for the home game with Bolton this weekend…

While Rooney’s return could well be precautionary measure, but if there is a slight doubt over his fitness, Ferguson may consider resting his star asset for either of the next two fixtures. United travel to CSKA Moscow in the Champions League after the Bolton clash and then follow this up with a trip to Anfield. There’s little doubt that Ferguson will want Rooney fresh and fully fit for the Liverpool fixture.

The question is then, can Ferguson gamble on seeing off Bolton this weekend without Rooney? He has been Premier League ever-present in the United side so far this season and, after the narrow escape against Sunderland last time out, Feguson will surely be reluctant to take a gamble on further dropped points at Old Trafford. Rooney owners will have to sweat it out though, with a clearer prognosis of Rooney’s injury likely to materialise later this week.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.
