News has spread from the Wigan Athletic camp that tonight’s fixture with Bolton Wanderers has been frozen off. The Wigan website had this to say:
“Following a thorough inspection, it was felt that the areas around the stadium, despite the best efforts of Wigan Athletic and Wigan Metropolitan Borough Council, are deemed not safe for the public”
With injuries to key figures like Cesc Fabregas, Ryan Shawcross and until recently, fan favourite David Dunn, some managers will be be troubled to put out a full 11 this week. With scores already desperately low (I’m set to top off at 30 points now) this will be a week for many of us to forget, and soon.
Questions will now be asked of when this game can be rescheduled, and if it will be any time soon. This Guardian report from last week seems to suggest that the next opening won’t be until March at the earliest, and even then a good cup run could delay it even longer.
Gameweek 18 was hardly full of the Christmas spirit but surely things have to get better with the Boxing Day gameweek?
