Steven Gerrard has again escaped disciplinary action after the FA confirmed this afternoon that they will take no further action over the incident involving Michael Brown in last night’s win over Portsmouth.

Earlier today a report in Daily Mirror stated that the FA were to question referee Stuart Attwell on whether he had seen the incident. Had he missed Gerrard’s flailing arm then the Liverpool skipper may have faced a violent conduct charge and a three-match ban. As it is the FA have confirmed that Attwell saw the clash on the night and, in his view, no punishment was required.

Players cannot be punished retrospectively if an alleged offence is acknowledged by the officials at the time.

Lucky Gerrard will now be in the Liverpool lineup at Old Trafford on Sunday.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.
