The eyes and ears of thousands of fantasy managers will be pointing towards the Emirates in the next 24-hours as we prepare to get the prognosis on the injury sustained to Cesc Fabregas at Birmingham. The midfielder was on the receiving end of challenge which saw him take a blow below his knee and, although he finished the game at St Andrews, the Spaniard is thought to be a doubt for Wednesday’s Champions League Quarter-Final with Barcelona.
The European tie is not our major concern. Instead the involvement of Fabregas in the Emirates encounter with Wolves could now be in real danger. On paper this looks like an opportunity for Fabregas’ Fantasy owners to reap some points following Lampard’s huge haul against Villa this weekend. However, with the second leg with Barcelona to follow three days after the Wolves match, it already looks likely that Wenger will examine the possibility of resting key players against Mick McCarthy’s side. Should the Arsenal skipper miss the first leg this week, it would seem very unlikely that he’d be risked on Saturday.
Abou Diaby also suffered a knock against Birmingham and is also set to be assessed prior to Wednesday’s game.
