Safely back in the land of internet connectivity this weekend, I can restore the normal Saturday morning service with the usual round-up of predicted team news from the regular rags.

There’s a real mixed bag this morning with, it seems, a 50% chance of Mikel Arteta making the Everton lineup, while there’s a right old unpredictable mess when it comes to Roy Hodgson’s selection against Wigan. Steven Gerrard is apparently about to be put back in the shackles of Liverpool’s midfield and all but one paper throws Samir Nasri into the fray for Arsenal to fill the boots of Fabregas. As for United, everyone seems to be predicting a start for Ryan Giggs. Could he be your last minute differential?

The Sun
Starting with the Arsenal lineup and there’s no place for Samir Nasri. The nation’s favourite red-top goes with a midfield of Denilson, Eboue and Song with Walcott and Rosicky flanking Bendtner up front. All of Villa’s walking wounded recover from niggles and start aside from Carew – so Agbonlahor, Dunne, Milner and Heskey are all predicted to feature at the Reebok.

There’s no start for Darren Fletcher in the Sun United lineup. Giggs earns a midfield role instead with Park, Valencia and Nani all in the eleven. Drogba starts and Deco holds his starting berth at the expense of Joe Cole and Ballack. Ryan Shawcross is predicted to start at the back for Stoke. Spurs shift Bale back to midfield and allow Kranjcar to move to a central role to cover for the loss of Huddlestone and Palacios. Defoe starts with Crouch in attack. The Liverpool lineup has Kuyt playing just behind Torres with Gerrard back in a central midfield role with Mascherano. Portsmouth are forced to start with Richard Hughes at centre-back as Blackburn keep Olsson up in attack with Jason Roberts.

Mikel Arteta makes the Everton lineup so there’s no place for Rodwell. The Sun’s Fulham lineup shows a host of changes with Gera out of the eleven and Okaka partnering Zamora up front. Greening and Dikgacoi take the central midfield berths and Duff is rested. It’s Hangeland and Smalling in the central defensive roles. Gohouri comes into the Wigan defence allowing Scharner to start in midfield.

The Times
Our first broadsheet predicts that Nasri will start with Song and Diaby either side in the Arsenal midfield. Both Rosicky and Walcott also earn starts with Bendtner leading the line. Villa give a start to Delfouneso at the Reebok with Agbonlahor and Heskey presumably absent through injury. Milner fails to make it too so Sidwell earns a rare start in midfield.

Ryan Giggs also starts in the Times eleven for United – this time at the expense of Park as Fletcher and Carrick man the central midfield. Drogba starts in opposition and Ballack comes in for Deco in midfield. There’s no Shawcross in the Stoke lineup as Huth and Higginbotham take up the central defensive roles. The Times has Harry starting with Gudjohnsen in a deeper midfield role with both Crouch and Pavlyuchenko up front. No start for Defoe then and Bale remains at left-back. Steven Gerrard will start alongside Mascherano with Rodriguez recalled to midfield and Kuyt playing off Torres.

There’s no Arteta in their Everton lineup so Rodwell starts in midfield. The Times also see changes in the Fulham lineup with Okaka starting up front for Zamora. Gera keeps his place but both Greening and Riise start with no place for Duff, Dempsey or Murphy. Hangeland and Smalling start in defence.

The Telegraph
The Telegraph opt to leave Diaby on the bench in their Arsenal lineup so Nasri starts in a midfield with Song and Denilson. Once again it’s Rosicky and Walcott either side of Bendtner. Villa have all their injured players available at Bolton so Carew and Agbonlahor start with Milner and Dunne also safely in the eleven.

It’s Fletcher, Giggs and Park in the United midfield here with no start for Carrick. Joe Cole is a starter for Chelsea so Deco makes way. Abdoulaye Faye passes a fitness test and makes the Stoke lineup – there’s no sign of Shawcross here then. Spurs somehow have Huddlestone available to them according to the Telegraph, even though Redknapp counted him out of his plans yesterday. Steven Gerrard is given the freedom to join Torres in attack as Rafa goes with a Lucas/Mascherano pairing in his midfield.

Arteta starts for Everton, as does Bilyatedinov with no place for Rodwell or Osman rather strangely. The Telegraph has Hodgson opting to start with Nevland up in support of Zamora with neither Dempsey or Gera in the starting lineup. They also rest Hangeland to the bench with Hughes and Smalling starting in defence.

The Guardian
Our final broadsheet has Nasri in a flanking role on the left with Song, Diaby and Denilson all starting in midfield. John Carew fails to make the Villa lineup so it’s Heskey and Agbonlahor up front at the Reebok. Milner and Dunne are both predicted to start.

It’s Giggs, Carrick and Fletcher in the United midfield with no place in the starting lineup for Park. Deco and Joe Cole both start at Old Trafford with Anelka out of the eleven for some reason. Both Shawcross and Faye start for Stoke in defence. Spurs gamble on Palacios’ injury and yellow card count at Sunderland but Bale is shifted to the left-wing with Assou-Ekotto drafted back in and no start for Bentley. It’s Defoe and Crouch up front and Kaboul is in the back four. Rafa shackles Gerrard alongside Mascherano at Birmingham so it’s Kuyt up in support of Torres with Rodriguez and Babel out wide.

There’s no Arteta in the Everton lineup so Rodwell keeps his starting berth. Okaka is a starter once again in this paper, this time with Gera up in support. Greening starts for Murhpy in central midfield and Dempsey and Davies are both out wide with no place for Duff. It’s Smalling and Hangeland in the defence.

Match Facts
And if that little lot wasn’t enough to give you the jitters, here’s a smattering of useless(?) facts from our friends at the Guardian and BBC, to mull over while the kettle boils…

  • Everton have lost just one of their last 15 home league games. West Ham have failed to win any of their last 15 away trips.
  • Louis Saha isn’t in the Picks for nothing. He has scored five goals in his last three starts against a West Ham defence.
  • United have won 10 of the 11 Premier League games that Wayne Rooney has missed since the start of the 2008-09 season.
  • Didier Drogba has failed to score in eight league appearances against United but has scored 10 goals in 8 games since his return from the African Cup of Nations.
  • Chelsea have won their last five league matches against the “big four”, keeping clean sheets in four of those games.
  • In nine meetings between Fulham and Wigan, only 11 goals have been scored.
  • Here’s food for thought for those of you looking at a Fulham defender this week – Wigan have gone 340 minutes without a league goal away from home.
  • But we perhaps shouldn’t expect a home win. Fulham have averaged one point per match immediately after a Europa League tie.
  • Spurs have won their last two away games. They haven’t recorded three league wins in a row away from home since December 2004.
  • Portsmouth have not kept a clean sheet in 14 matches – conceding 34 goals in the process.
  • Bizarrely Blackburn have not won a league game outside of Lancashire this season. Both their away wins were at local rivals Bolton and Burnley.
  • Burnley have gone 23 games without keeping a clean sheet in all competitions. Then again, City have kept just one clean sheet in their last ten away trips.

Just a reminder that if you’re 18 or over and feeling the urge for a flutter and have yet to sign up for a Paddy Power account, you can support this site and register for Paddy via this link. They will even give you a free £20 when you bet £10. There’s also a Scout Picks market up this weekend with 16/1 offered on Tim Cahill, David Dunn and Fernando Torres all scoring.

Don’t forget to select your team if you’re still in our Paddy Power Last Man Standing Tournament.

Finally, best of luck to those still involved in the Fantasy Football Scout Cup this weekend, particularly Squerly4568 who is up against Granville of course.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.
