The short wait to find out the magic number needed to qualify for the third Fantasy Football Scout Cup, sponsored by Paddy Power, is over. All thanks to my colleague SUPERIOR BEING for producing the results so quickly.

A fantastic turnout for the qualifying round saw 1,283 fantasy managers fighting it out for just 510 places. After hits, a score of 49 or above is good enough for the first round. For the 43 fantasy managers sitting on 48 points for the week, you will have to click here to see if you made the grade, as your qualification is dependant on overall rank…

With odds so slim, it’s no surprise to see so many big names drop out at this early stage. Amongst others, contributors SIR PAULOS (46), Big Dunc (42), Andy (43), SUPERIOR BEING (37), Da Beeeez (38) and Money Mike (38) all missed the cut, leaving just six contributors left in the Cup.

So onto the first round proper now, where Jonty and donnellyc join us. The fixtures for which will be published a few days before the next deadline (although I may not make you wait that long).

Thanks again to everyone who entered, congratulations to the qualifiers, and commiserations to those missing the cut.

VDV will go up tonight, after that he'll need roughly another 100,000 NTI to go up again, and looking at the amount of people buying him, should happen.

It is possible to go up by more than 0.2, but unlikely. To go up by 0.1, they need to have approx 30000 net transfers in. But after that, the target to go up doubles and the NTI resets, so to go up by 0.2 they need to have a further 60000 net transfers in (i.e. 90000 net transfers in in total for the week). If this happens, the NTI is reset and the target raised again to approx 90000 (i.e. 180000 net transfers in in total for the week). So it's pretty unlikely... Once the gameweek is over, they're target NTI goes back down to 30000, so this is why many popular players who have already risen in a gameweek rise again on the first day of a new gameweek (usually Saturday).

This is my interprestation from what I've read and looking at fiso, if anyone out there knows better, feel free to correct me!

        Spot on.

VDV will probably be one of the few people a season who do hit a triple rise in a gameweek though, given he's now got about 12 days to basically hit 90K more after today. Very feasable.

An unprecedented fourth rise though I think is out of the question, as interest will dip massively after today I think, but you never know.

I hate this game. 2 transfers made on Sat morning - under pressure as had to get to footy training at 10 so rushed into doing Arshavin and ALEX out, R Johnson and Gerrard in. WTF was I thinking of?? My gut said do nothing but no.
Could have been a lot worse but those 14 pts (and the 4 it cost me to do it)would probably have put me up to top 5k or so overall 🙁
Having noted that the top guy overall has made 0 transfers, I'm considering just leaving my team alone for a while now but then where is the fun in that eh?
Anyone else had a nightmare with stupid transfers? Could do with some cheering up!

Alex OUT Konchesky IN 2 weeks ago, cue Konchesky not making 60 and getting injured. This week, Johnson OUT Gerrard IN, fail.

Not nightmarish, but annoying, haven't had 1 4 point hit work for me this year yet, 0/4 seperate 4 point hit fails!

guys, due to tight funds and changing prices (and a desire to have Cesc in my squad), im left with having to make my trades this evening.

    4pt hit...

    Hahn to Krul
    Bale to Yaya (or 5.5mid)
    Arshavin to Cesc

I am in a similar boat. Considering keeping Arsh for one more gameweek and transferring him and Berbs out for Cesc and a cheaper striker after GW8. I have Nani to cover United for GW9 on. Also, gives me time to see if Cesc if fit.

Equally, if a defender was subbed on after 31 minutes and no goals were conceeded while they were on, they'd probably have been on the pitch for 60+ minutes once you factor in injury time, but for FPL score purposes you'd only get 59 mins and 1 point. It would be rather harsh, but that's just the way it goes sometimes.

If you want to keep your 3 forwards and Malouda and Nani, you're basically forced to trade in VDV but still raise about £4m in surplus cash and that can only be done by removing 2 of Toure (def), Alex and Bale for £4m players.

Think you may have to bite the bullet and sacrifice Malouda and Bale for Fab and someone like Barton.

I suppose it depends how desperately you want Fabs back.

I do plan to take a 4 point hit during break to bring him back into my team.

Now I dont want to point out an error that is in my favour, but when you click on the link above it says 'Through to the First Round'. I imagine that should be 'Through to the Qualifying Round' unless you're just teasing us numpties

It's all in order. It says ‘Through to the First Round...’ above the first 510 names, then it says 'Missing Out...' above the rest.

Nice, have you got dumplings? I find dumplings can really make a beef stew. The last one I made was a bit bitter from all the Guiness.

No dumplings, not a massive fan. I normally use Spitfire ale, but this time I'm going for a strong tasting tipple called Oyster Stout, never tried it before in a stew but I thought it might work well. Nice couple of dollops of wholegrain mustard in there as well for some extra flavour

I reckon the ale is probably a good shout. Not a big fan of the stout after last time, but the proof is in the eating. Let me know.

Also, coincidence, when I made the last one, I really wanted to make beef and oyster pie, but couldn't get any oysters.

Pie sounds interesting, never tried that combo.
Yeah little worried that the stout might be overpowering, its a helluva lot stronger tasting than Guiness so hope it works out.
Love making stews, it looks like you've done shitloads of work when the missus comes in but aside from a bit of chopping at the start you get to sit on your arse for 2 hours! 🙂

+1, I think a lot of cooking is pretty simple once you're confident enough and you know how everything works. But stew takes the biscuit.

I have a friend who wanted to learn a simple bit of cooking so I made him a cornish pasty, but I said to him that stew is the easiest. I could knock up a chicken stew actually, I have leftovers from Sunday. I was going to make chicken stock.

    I'm stuck here whether
    1. Get Fabregas IN (two transfer), or
    2. Get VDV IN (one transfer)

VDV is exceptionally dynamic as Fabregas, and VDV option has price rise factor and definite point returns in few gameweeks.

If you wait, you will have to pay .2-.3 more for VDV, that being said, he has tricky-ish (I said "ish" for any detractors!) fixtures, and I think it is more essential to have Fab.

That being said, if you can do Cole OUT VDV IN, one move, this week, guaranteed to play in next GW barring international duty injury, I would do that, trouble with that is you have Bale and VDV then for Fulham, which you would think will be low scoring enough.

With doubts over Cesc's fitness even going into Birmingham game, I would gamble on VDV IN now, you won't be losing anything with Joe bloody Cole, so go for it. Following week Chamakh OUT cheapie IN and Malouda OUT for Fabregas
