Another international break has given us the time and space once more to look back over a month (and an extra day or so) across the variety of Fantasy Football Scout Leagues.

Fantasy Premier League (FPL) is of course our most intrepid and time consuming endeavour, so we’ll be starting off on the pastures that are most familiar to us…

Fantasy Premier League

The Good…

We start with a pat on the back for our good selves, which coincidentally means nothing without you lot, as the Fantasy Football Scout league itself is a healthy yard or two in the lead as the league to beat, with almost a 10 point lead. A milestone has also been reached as we crossed 5,000 league members in this last week. Not joined yet? Then roll up, roll up and let’s take over the shop.

In the league we have site poster WhoWhoZela storming the rankings currently, with a healthy six point lead over safir islam in second place as Zophar builds on his August Members League success by rounding out in third place. Five thousand or so other managers have them in their sights.

As for the weekly battles we see Roger C top Head to Head One with a record of six out of seven, better than anyone else, including lead chaser Adil. Head to Head Two sees dadoune lead tinoss based on overall ranking in an even contest among the top four. TorresMagic is miles clear of Mark (that’s our Mark) in our third Head to Head, while Rouge123 tries to catch up on leader Denial in the fourth of our leagues.

Dan B settles into top spot of our fifth Head to Head league thanks to his world ranking of 48th, as The Fish hopes being almost 23,000 places back won’t hurt too much. Cake or Death and BilboBaggins hold the one-two places respectively in the sixth league. The last, but not least, select entry Head to Head (number seven), sees EasyLuckyFree have a slender lead over greghammer95.

There are nine Managers in our Reserve League who are unbeaten after seven fixtures, with one overall point handing Graeme Matthew the lead as of now.

The Bad…
Not to dwell on the unfortunate too much, but everyone likes to know there’s always someone doing worse than them, and those about to be highlighted may even help from a casual kick up the proverbial.

JWF JN, Sparky, SuperDunny, Donnylad, gizmothelegend and rrcmc are the seven managers at the bottom of each of our Head to Head leagues – you’ve got a month or so to get your names off the “must try harder” list.

Shane Ettridge and his vertical smile gets the wooden spoon at this venture, and he’s a little unfortunate as his weekly score of 39 points sees him bottom of the Fantasy Football Scout league – to be fair to him though, he did only start this week.

The Ugly… (otherwise known as the Scout team)

Last time we spoke a measly five points separated Granville and Mark after one month of action; a little over two months gone and Mark has made a charge on his mancunian cohort to pass and now lead by 17 points; that’s what four of those elusive green arrows in the row will do for you. In doing so, Mark has also soared to the top of the Contributors League with a passing manoeuvre on Sir Paulos this most recent gameweek. I find myself in sixth, still, for the umpteenth week in a row but changes are afoot – Pure Olivia is catching up fast, so seventh beckons soon.

Metro Fantasy Football

The manager currently at the peak of the Fantasy Football Scout league is Pat Lawes, making the most of the less than judicious Metro rules by also chasing their own wake in second place too. Hmmm, here’s hoping the multi-teamers see some keen competition from the solo players like myself (oh, I fell from 90th to 104th since last time) as the months roll on.

European Adventures

The midweek Champions League adventures kicked off their long thirteen gameweek adventure and our Scout League celebrates being first place in the league of league competition. Miroslav Markovic and Francois Bozize (our league one-two) have our thanks for that.

The extreme managers who requested a Scout League for some sadistic Thursday Europa League action got their wish. Ajay Gera and Garima Gulyani are the only two of 57 mangers to break one hundred points so far. Scout, and cup maestro, Akers is right up there too in fourth place.

That’s just about everything. See you in early November for some more Scout League fireworks.

    A) or B) lads

    A) Alex-Boating-O’shea-Yaya
    B) Samba-Faye-Salcido-Arteta

wanted my midfield to be Fabergas-Nani-VDV-Malouda & Artera but do you think Yaya and a stronger back line would get more points??

        Although you could play 3-5-2...

I think the point was that you will (in a balanced team) sometimes not be playing at least one midfielder, but I'm not sure of the logic now.

Huddlestone is blessed not to be banned for champions league- the f*ckers on those disciplinary panels cant have played football before- the only reason possible for his elbows to be moving like that were to smack him in the jaw.

The amount it happens... where do they get the impression they can get away with it in front of millions of people?

One reason could be the manager and the playing staff saying one thing in public, and another thing in the dressing room.

    Afternoon Gents,

I am seeing a lot of chat about people removing Malouda. Personally I think it's crazy, if your like me and got on early then he is a steal. I am certainly not planning on taking him out playing an extremely attacking role in a wide position for a team superb at the counter attack. He is VERY often involved in Chelsea's goals and can only see him in the top 5 midfiels points scorers come seasons end.

Surely there is no reason to get rid? A midfield of Fabs, Malouda, Nani, Bale or VDV and Cheapie (Barton/Albrighton) is every achieveable.....certainly the plan which I am sticking with barring injuries or barron loss of form.....

I don't really buy into the idea of losing value when you sell a player... The total money you have to spend on your 15 players won't change after subbing Malouda out, i.e. mine is currently 101.5 (when I transfer everyone out on my transfer page).

The only way you are actually losing value, is if you then bring Malouda back in at some stage, and you'll have 0.4 million less to spend elsewhere. But, assuming that you don't have him for the whole season (very likely with the amount of transfers you make, and inevitable injuries/suspensions) it actually doesn't particularly matter in the long run.

I'm one of those probably getting rid of him, and am not at all worried about doing so.

BUT PEOPLE WILL DEFFINITELY WANT MALOUDA BACK (INCLUDING YOU). By that time he'll be even more expensive what you gonna do then come up with the idea of dropping Drogba to get malouda back in? bad bad ideas

Even if he does play in the Wolves game, I'd still back Nani to outscore him in 3 of the next 4 gameweeks...

And who knows, I may make up for the loss of Malouda value by gaining value on Nani!

        Hi Jamsiep,

Thanks for the reply, always interested to hear your thoughts on FF matters. I am basing the loss of value theory as you described, based on the fact that I would not want to transfer him out.

I am interested as a Chelsea fan to hear why you are considering shipping him out? I have been able to watch a number of Chelsea game's this season and he just seems like a fantastic fantasy prospect, playing for the best attacking team in the league and the probable champions and in fantastic form.

Is is this rotation risk I have noticed you mentioning that is making you twitchy? Or is there someone else who you feel will comfortably outscore him?

I wrote this a couple of days ago. Basically describing why I'm considering getting rid of him. I complete agree that he is a great fantasy option, but with fixtures and rotation risk, I think that there will be midfielders that outscore him over the next 10 weeks.

          This is wrote I wrote:

I’m thinking of binning him this week… There’s a chance that he’ll be rested for the Wolves game, with us playing in Moscow during midweek. If he is, then he’ll have the following fixtures in the next 4:

          avl – liv bla

Rotation is 100% going to happen for the Wolves game, because of the trip to Russia and the ease of the fixture. Ancelotti has already shown that he is more than willingly to rest our bigger players, even if games that aren’t that easy, like the West Ham one. It’s just a question of which attacking players will be benched.

For me, Malouda is the most likely of the wide players. Pressumably he’ll have played twice for France during the international break, whereas Anelka obviously won’t have! And Ivory Coast only have one game during the break. So all this adds up to, at least in my mind, Malouda being the most likely out of the front three to be benched vs Wolves, assuming that Kalou and Benayoun are both fit again – which they should be, the game is in 3 weeks time.

Again, this is all assuming that we play our strongest side in Moscow, which I would imagine we will do considering they are also on 6 points in our group.

          Upshot of all this is:

          Malouda > Nani. Yay!!

              Interesting stuff...

Am I right that I read that Yossi is out with a fairly 'long one' which may take him out as an option?!

Tuesday night game to a Saturday 3pm and a full week off afterwards? Are you 100% that there will be that much rotation? Is it not possible that he could get 65-70 mins vs Moscow and play Sat?

I know it's all if's and buts......but even so if he is benched for Wolves is it still worth it on the if's and buts of missing one fixture? And the 'stiff fixtures' surely arent an issue as literally bar Man City away who play 7 at the back there isnt a team in the league I wouldnt fancy Chelsea to put a couple past.....thus meaning likely Malouda points?

It will be interesting to see how this plays out over the next couple of weeks!

                It's a risk w/ Malouda.

To the Yossi point -he has an achilles problem and will be out a few months. But it doesn't matter - he's not in the "Wide rotation" anyway.

Anyone who has watched CHE knows he is in the CM rotation with Ramires, Lampard, Essien, etc.

The "Wide" rotation is more like Sturridge, Anelka, Kalou, etc.

                Just FYI.

Lastly - I actually had planned on taking Malouda OUT for Fabregas IN for the WBA game gameweek 6. That was always my transfer until Fabregas got injured against Sunderland in gameweek 5.

Would have worked out great (obviously hindsight is 20-20) because Malouda, as I expected, did nothing in weeks 6 and 7. I think he'll be Top 3 scoring midfielder, but there is certainly an argument to be made for switching to other options.

Yep, as Shahriyar points out, that was a copy and paste jobby from a post a couple of days ago, when Benayoun was confirmed as seriously injured. But still Kakuta and Sturridge seem to be playing more and more, and Carlo seems to trust them.

The West Ham game came after an international break, and the game after was only against Zilina.

The game in Moscow will be tough, and it will be an exhausting trip. Assuming he plays twice for France, he'll have matches on:

9th, 12th, 16th, 19th and then the Wolves game on the 23rd. That's 5 matches in just two weeks, and it's a helluva a lot of football to be playing so early in the season...

....and France are in no position to rest him given the dodgy start they've made in qualifying. And I'd be astonished if he didn't play against Villa and probably Spartak too, as they are pretty tough games.

Jamie as a Chelsea fan I think that there is even more chance for Malouda to be rested for the Villa game if Kalou is fit. He was rested after playing two for France and before the CL game previously. But the easiness of the Wolves game and the fact that we always play bad against Villa its giving more weight to the option Malouda rested for the Wolves game. But I can see some rest almost certain in that period.

I never thought that I would be wanting so bad Kalou to be fit and starting for Chelsea 🙂

Difficult decisions for us all to come. I guess we all will choose two out of Fabs, Malouda and Tevez longterm(Drogs obviously and Nani + VDV because of their low price are must haves). You can't have all those 6 at one time without have an absolutely s* defense.

Who will you go for out of Fabs, Malouda and Tevez and in which order?

Not really achievable with 2 heavyweights up front though. Personally I think one of Drogs or Malouda is enough for most run of fixtures.

They wont score heavily against all opponents and freeing up the cash allows me to have a different captaincy option which is more important in my opinion.

in in the jamie sp boat, Im the pirate up the back half pissed on a jug of rum with one had on the breast of the girl we kidnapped on the last island. After i've raised the jolly rodger, and fabregas is definitely fit, ill be hitting waynecard. Im sick of everyone in my league having malouda and its worth moving him out for the possible gains. Now where's my parrot......DB???

That's the point Qubit. If you've got Drogba you probably don't need Malouda as well, other than for their early games. Even then he was rested against West Ham and no one saw that coming.

Sews seeds of future rotation doubt, which is the crux of Jam Pies' cogent argument.

As you'd not captain Malouda, he's the one to go. Plus the huge amount of midfield choice right now.

Yep. My new midfield 4 will be (assuming fabs fit) Fabs, Nani, VDV and Arteta with Drogs and Tevez up front. Happy with that.

I just can't see who I would want to get instead? Having already played my wildcard this season I am pretty much stuck with:

            2 Cheap Goalies

1 Top Def, 1 Average and 3 Cheapies

2 Heavyweight Mids, 1 High to Mid, 1 Mid to Lower and Budget

2 Heavyweight Fwds and 1 Budget

I can't see anyone else who I would want to fill the 'Heavyweight' midfielders slots bar Cesc and Florent....Stevie? No....Lamps? Not currently? --- leaves me on the Malouda wagon for a good while yet.

Fair play to those of you shipping him out though!

Nice chat really. I like it. Just let me stress something.

U are choosing to keep Tevez and Malouda. But regarding Tevez (Mancini fight/Baloteli returning) I am little bit worried. Elmander has almost same points as Tevez and has very reasonable fixtures. Man City looks like are not gonna score a lot of goals after all. The point is that if u r that huge fan of Malouda more wisely is to drop Tevez in order to have the cash for Fabs and Malouda as midfielders. That brings me to another point.

Cashley! He is 3m. cheaper than Tevez/Malouda, and has the same amount of points as the Argentinian. Some of us will agree that Cashley and Drogs are enough cover from Chelsea and long term. Between Cashley and Malouda I can see 20-30 points difference at most, at the end of season.

I am just trying to give options on the topic sell/keep Malouda.

My key factors are captaincy potential for Malouda and the fact that at the moment I see plenty, really plenty options in midfield that I am feeling so bad cause I have only 5 slots available. He could not be missed that much after all 🙂

At the end we have GW 22 to reconsider this 😉 .
              Cheers,

P.S. This international breaks are so boring ðŸ™

Malouda's a season keeper, injuries aside. Same as Drogba, Arteta and - dare I say it - Bale.

I am in the "if you drop Drogba you stand to lose out much more than if you drop Malouda" camp, I will never captain Malouda, over Drogba first, and generally if I am going ot have Tevez or Rooney/Fabregas/Drogba I will not be looking outside them, and almost everyone is in the same boat. The fact I won't captain Malouda, makes it easier to justify his removal, if I bring in Arteta in place for instance, I would consider captaining Arteta (and have in the past to mixed results)

What are peoples thoughts on Rooney? If he is fit (IF) and he plays well and scored for England I am seriously bringing him in on my WC (remember Waynecard last season?). He has dropped .6m in value, is on penalties, and has some great fixtures. Tevez on the other hand, who I have at the moment, has Blackpool (A), Arsenal (H), Wolves (A) and West Brom (A) in the next 4, fair enough 3 of them are away but they are still nice fixtures on paper.

It's safe to say most people will say Tevez over Rooney, anyone else think Rooney is getting to that point where everything dovetails nicely? Form, fixtures, family life?

Difficult choices for us all right now....

Midfield analysis shows the likes of Adam and Etherington are doing better than many "big names." In the past tactic was to have good players who were budget to free £ for the likes of "big name strikers." Trouble is, this season, Torres and Rooney have done nothing...and only Drogba is worth having in the "big money bracket."

So...I have Arshavin....who is 9.9m. Yet Adam (5.2) has as many points. I could make that sub and say upgrade Carroll to a RVP or Bent....but then Carroll has more points than Bent, Chamakh etc !

Anyone else struggling with this apparent "surplus money" problem ? When the "big names" are struggling for form, how best to use your £ resources ? ðŸ™

      +1

He's a serious player. Much better than any of the wide players that City have right now... He'd have been perfect in their current formation too... Need pace on the flanks to make the most of the space that Tevez creates by dropping deep.

but alex could also be out for 4-5 games + he will be a rotation risk when bosingwa is fully fit. I usually don't take hits on defender, but this would be a way to afford Fabs. I'm around 40 points behind in my mini league.

Playing my wildcard this week and of course I am coming up with a new team every hour or so. All of this Malouda talk is very interesting and there is strength in all of the arguments and of course plenty of discussion on cheap defenders etc etc.

I think it's worth keeping the value in players and certain ones are just worth keeping for the entirety of the season of course. The word 'essential' is used too much on this site but I think it's difficult to argue that Drogba, Tevez, Fabs, Malouda and Nani are incredibly good players to have all season and will no doubt score big and only go up in price. There are of course others alongside them (Rooney, VDV, Arete, Gerrard, Torres etc) who may come good and then it gets all the more difficult.

This is mostly my two cents but as a result this is my possible WC team. Any thoughts would be grand:

    Foster Jaask
    Mummy Coleman Salcido Jara Simpson
    Malouda Fabs Nani VDV Albrighton
    Drogba Berbs Odemwingie

This leaves 0.6 in the bank for Berbs to RVP when fit. The defense is not strong and I know I have no city cover but I just can't afford Malouda and Tevez.

    Any thoughts?

Very good team, and the Berbatov > RVP idea is perfect...

It's all very well picking a load of cheap defenders, but I'd look at how their fixtures rotate together. I'm not saying that they don't, because I haven't looked, but it's worth making sure that you'll have at least three defenders with decent fixtures every week.

I manually write out what my three man defence will be for the next 5/6 weeks every so often.. Helps you to ensure that you don't get caught out with all 5 defenders having shocking fixtures each week.

Although it hasn't really worked so far!! My Jara/Enrique rotation policy has been an absolute shambles!

I definitely agree. I haven't checked fixtures yet, but more playing around with players in those price brackets. I'm sure there must be a formula there somewhere.

Possibly swapping jaask for Krul and putting a little more in the back five could work? i'll need to do the maths.

Lamps is definitely not worth it this year for the following reasons:

        (1) he now has an injury that looks to be an injury which could crop up at any time a la Cesc's hammies and RVP's (body?)

        (2) with the form of Malouda/Essien/(Mikel?!) in midfield, Frank is going to have to share his previous points. Yes, he may get a load of penalties again, but I don't think that is even worth it at his price tag, when you think you have penalty takers in Rooney/Tevez/VDV/Arteta in "Top 6" teams that are cheaper

        (3) he is fat.

All this Malouda talk makes things really tricky, some great arguments for and against, for me it comes down to Malouda or Tevez, I'm defiantly keeping/getting:
    - Cole
    - Fabregas
    - Drogba
    - Nani
From what I can see I have two options:
    1) Fabregas Tevez 5.3mid
    2) Fabregas Malouda Elmander
So which is best? I really want to have a punt on Elmander as he's in form and has good fixtures IMO but tevez scares the bejesus out of me as my main rival has him.

Not sure there is a definative answer Goose....definately a toughie. There is a case for saying to cover Man City's attacking points and to offer a captaincy alternative then option 1 is better. Personally I have Malouda and plan on keeping him BUT based on what you have just described I would say go option 1 with Adam as your 5.3 midfielder.

My ears have been playing up for the last couple of months too, so I actually do have sympathy for you..

I can hear lots of ringing, and faint garbled background noise, that's about it.

The first time it happened (about three years ago) I was scared to buggery. Now I just hope all they need is syringing again, stupid thin ear caverns. Something like that.

How loud is the ringing? I get that too... Although it's only a problem when trying to go to sleep, can't really hear it otherwise.. I think it's called tinnitus or something like that. Caused by listening to too much heavy metal on my iPod... 😉

Torres' groin...Alex's thigh...Yossi's achilles...Zabaleta's hamstring...De Jong's opponents...Andy's ears...It's the curse of the international week, I tell you - and we haven't even had any internationals yet.

FPL should give us an extra free transfer, at least.

I've become obsessed with looking at the leader's team.I see he maintained the overall lead by cleverly playing Adam Johnson for his 9 point cameo. It's just amazing..his name is on the trophy. You'd think one of his mates would tell him that he's winning it and that he should downgrade Evans or perhaps look at his team even.Maybe he knows he's winning it and is content with it all to the point where he doesn't want to make any trasnfers. All hail kingKONG

If he started making transfer it would probably all fall apart. It would be like opening the oven door to check how your yorkshire puddings are rising. I'd advise him to leave well alone.

If the transfer rollover system worked beyond two transfers, then he'd be absolutely sorted. Would have about 7 free transfers to sort out the 'problems' with his side, not that there are any...
