Our Watchlist player rankings have been updated today, reflecting the forthcoming fixtures, current form and recent team selections. You’ll find these tables in your right sidebar on the frontpage.

The eagle-eyed amongst you will notice that we’ve recently extended our season ticker to six fixtures and this has been reflected in the Watchlist – the next six opponents are now considered when putting these rankings together.

Joe Hart stays on the summit of the Goalkeeper rankings but only just. With three away fixtures in the next four and home games against Arsenal and United, he may need to rely on Save Points to fetch the returns. Newcastle’s Tim Krul offers a very viable and far cheaper alternative; with four home matches in the next six against Wigan, Sunderland, Blackburn and Fulham – the Newcastle stand-in looks to offer exceptional value going into November. Arsenal’s Lucasz Fabianski is a notable new entry, gate-crashing in fourth place in the rankings, the Pole may well be a short-term solution given that Manuel Almunia’s elbow is on the mend, but three “kind†home fixtures in the next four appears to offer strong value if you’re willing to trust a Gunners defence that’s likely to be without Thomas Vermaelen for the foreseeable.

John O’Shea benefits from the return of Rio Ferdinand and the solidity that this brings to Alex Ferguson’s rearguard – this has the Irishman climb to the top of our Defender rankings, surpassing Kolo Toure right now on fixtures with three home games in the next four Gameweeks. Everton’s Leighton Baines is the big climber – his fixtures improve slightly over the next six and he is already displaying form with two assists to his name so far. Newcastle’s Jose Enrique is a big climber just below the Everton left-back; more expensive than Mike Williamson and possibly more secure than the returning Danny Simpson, the Spaniard offers assist potential and a strong alternative to Krul in goal with four home matches in six. Notably climbers include Wigan’s Antolin Alcaraz and Sunderland’s Elmohamady who we feel will start delivery attacking points to supplement Sunderland’s defensive returns, despite a harsh run of fixtures to come.

Yet again the Midfield rankings remain pretty steady at the top – United’s Nani and Chelsea’s Florent Malouda holding on to the top two spots, with Fulham’s Clint Dempsey maintaining his position in third thanks to his goal at Upton Park and decent fixtures to come. Blackpool’s Charlie Adam is the big climber and even pips the “bandwagonesque†Rafael Van der Vaart of Spurs. With three home games in four, I feel that Adam offers potential stronger returns over that period as Van der Vaart embarks on away games at Fulham, United and Bolton.

Up front there is also little movement at the top. Dimitar Berbatov’s shock relegation to the bench doesn’t shake my confidence in him ahead of some strong home fixtures, while West Brom’s Peter Odemwingie remains solid in fourth with some decent opponents to come. Andy Carroll holds firm despite being benched at City – I have confidence that he will return to the starting lineup and exploit Newcastle’s kind run of opponents that follow. Bolton’s Johan Elmander and Arsenal’s Marouane Chamakh enjoy climbs with three attractive home games in four to come, despite the lack of form shown by Arsenal’s Moroccan striker.

As always there will be changes to the Watchlist as we near the next Gameweek deadline – Cesc Fabregas and Frank Lampard are almost certain to enter the rankings once we have confirmation of their expected returns. I’ll keep you posted on those and any other notable changes as and when they take place.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

In the other football, popularized by our transatlantic cousins, the big news of the day is that my beloved Patriots have traded Randy Moss to Minnesota.

I actually approve of this move. Belichick finally realized he doesn't want us to be the 2004 Colts anymore. Time to get back to the "Patriot Way" of doing things.

This is the first time in a long time that I'm actually happy about the Pats again.

Nasri will likely drop deeper and continuiously swap roles with Fabregas during a game, or even be deployed out wide - a shame because he's been a key figure so far and with Arsenal's fixtures, could offer strong value. Right now he's high on my Watchlist but, once we have confirmation of Fabregas' return, that will likely change. He'll be off spot-kicks too of course.

Thanks chaps... it's a conundrum... he's looked good recently, and I'm not sure I can afford Fabs with a major re-org, so am tempted. But, if he's less potent on Fabs's return....

Yes but Fabs isn't essential for now, you can hold off for a while, maybe GW10.

Nani is sufficient United cover so you should get that transfer done anyway

I know it's boring on international break so here is an off topic question. My youngfella is 4. I'm steadfastly teaching him to kick a ball every day with both feet. He is also able to hit a decent golf shot down the local park. In the interest of my early retirement, which should I PUSH him into? Or alternatively, stick him in a F1 car ASAP (he has strong thumbs and apparently that's all you need these days with those damn fancy steering wheel buttons). I've ruled out Snooker, Darts and Badminton or moving him to America to enter beauty pageants.

I've heard that if you p*ss around the border of your garden it keeps them out.

There's also a gadget that emits a high frequency noise (humans can't hear it) that keeps foxes away, dunno about badgers. I wouldn't combine it with the pitbull suggestion, though, don't wanna p*ss those f*ckers off off...

Not sure about the pissing thing-my bro tried it the other day. The next day there was a massive burrow in the exact spot he'd pissed.

Might try the high frequency thing.

I'm supposed to be looking after my dad's ducks whilst he's on holiday-1 of them had died in the electric fence today, and another had vanished-Brock is the prime suspect!

Am I completely made to take an eight point (or four point over two weeks) to take out Shawcross, Konchesky, Bale and Nolan out, just to get Cesc in, along with B Ferguson, Jara and Alcaraz?

if I were you, I would just do Malouda to Fab for the next few weeks while he is under CL rotation threat...

then eventually downgrade Tevez to get back Malouda when Tevez is under threat (see Tweets)...

there is one more Quinn lurking around here somewhere...

I can't fathom getting rid of Malouda, I want him, Drog, Cesc, Nani and Tevez for the season, I just see them as a constant flow of points, and are all good captain options.

Mighty...there's a lot of disinformation on here these days; DON'T listen to any of it!

The five you mention are near must haves; VdV is knocking at the door to be the sixth.

            those 5 players cost 55 million+...leaving 45 million for the other 9.

you can't have all the great players all the time.

      You just sold him!

I would probably try to get him in though. Too bad you don't have a WC handy...

Ha! Just had a look, very good. I'd join it only I'd be lynched when I went back home.

Good games Attila. I'm knackered now, so I'm calling it quits.

Could you invite me into that league please. I removed myself to change team and it wouldn't let me rejoin without an invite. Ta.

      Cheers mate,
Some difference playing as Real or Barca rather than the poor old Toon. I'll repost the info tomorrow so Jamsie P can get on too. Do I need to send an invite? I didn't before but I'll check it out tomoz.

Good matches - particularly the Man U V Real ones, well at least it was less of a kicking anyway!

It was pretty even for those last couple of games.

You just need to send me an invite because I left.

Will do tomorrow mate. I might just dissolve that league and recreate a new one (prefer Real to Barca on it) so will post the details in the morning / avo. I take it you're upgrading from Spurs?

Ok, so here's a bit of an interesting decision. Thanks for all help on this one:

I am playing in a head-to-head league where this GW I am playing one of the top guys, and maybe the guy with the best team. This is his team: http://fantasy.premierleague.com/M/eventhist.mc?id=1421707;event_id=7

As I feel he has the edge, I need to make the right decisions right now to get the match against him. My team: http://fantasy.premierleague.com/M/eventhist.mc?id=1240637

I have already changed Johnson for Mummy.

    What can I do?

    1. Go for the Malouda gamble, sell him, and either get Fabs or another midfielder likely to get good points. This will mean a -4 hit.
    2. Do nothing and hope Arshavin makes a big difference
    3. Sell Larsson for another 5.5-6.5 mid (take hit)
    4. Sell Dembele for Chamakh/Bent/5.5-forward (take hit)

Well you have no Droga, and no Fabs (yet)

You should focus on them two.

Richards price is plummeting, news from Fabs is that he'll be fit to start next GW.

I'd work in Fabs for Arshavin for a hit.

If Richards is still not fit by then, transfer for Boateng, Kolarov or Samba the GW after

Ya, I think Fabs would be key because he can get big points and would be the only major differences in your two's midfields. Your opponent doesn't have the funds to bring in VDV for Bale or Fabregas for Malouda w/out taking a couple of hits and I don't see him doing that, so that's where you need to make up some ground. VDV in for Bale might work too seeing that he can't get him and if he ends up doing better than Bale, then that could be the difference. Wait for Cesc assurance of quality minutes, then bring him in. He'll probably capt. Nani, might wanna try something different and even gamble by captaining Cesc.

Thanks guys. All this makes sense. Thinking about doubling up on Arshavin+Fabregas for this GW though, since the other guy has no Arsenal coverage, and then sell Arshavin later.

Not really to hot on the VDV-bandwagon, because of the fixtures, and because ... well, everyone seems to be getting him.
