I’ve been toying with the idea of a random news article for a while; a quick mix of opinion and links to stories and events of the last 24-hours. The international break, and the unnerving hush that it brings around the Premier League, offered me the ideal opportunity. Here’s the first set of “Scout Scribbles” then…

So far it appears that Friday’s internationals have passed without any major injury concerns for us Fantasy Managers. Stoke’s Thomas Sorensen did however suffer a recurrence of his ongoing elbow injury which saw him subbed on 32 minutes in the 3-1 defeat to Portugal. Sorensen will be a doubt for Denmark’s qualifier with Cyprus on Tuesday and could also go into Stoke’s trip to Bolton as an injury concern for Tony Pulis. As a side note, Nani continued his sparkling form this season with a brace in that 3-1 win for Portugal.

The Bandwagonesque Rafael Van der Vaart came through 90 minutes for Holland as they ran out 1-0 winners in Moldova. Typically, Van der Vaart provided the assist for Klaas Jan Huntelaar’s winner. His new Fantasy owners will now be looking anxiously to Tuesday’s qualifier with Sweden in Amsterdam and hoping that he can again come through unscathed. Those who have yet to jump on board and have watched his price rise, will be hoping for something very different.

Reports in the Sun this morning, claim that Wes Brown feels that he may be given the elbow at Old Trafford following a pre-season slanging match with Alex Ferguson. Brown has yet to start a Premier League game this season and if there is indeed a rift in place, these latest reports are hardly likely to win him favour with Ferguson. Good news for John O’Shea owners perhaps.

Wes Brown isn’t the only Premier League player set to be victim of a loose lips – Birmingham’s Alexander Hleb is unlikely to benefit from his comments made to the press which were published on Friday. The report offered such gems as…

“In the recent Birmingham games there was a lot of struggle – they were ¬constantly hoofing the long ball forward.”

and

“The Birmingham style is not the kind of game I dreamed about.”

The frustrated St Andrews faithful must have loved that. Alex McLeish meanwhile, will of course deal with that in his own subtle little way I’m sure. He certainly offered little comfort to Hleb in his recent comments on Birmingham’s tactics. According to McLeish, we’re unlikely to see Birmingham shift to 4-4-2 for the foreseeable – apparently they don’t have a player who can make the ball stick up front. Obviously the 6 ft 8 in frame of Nikola Zigic isn’t up to the job; that was many “undisclosed” millions well spent then.

Newcastle have confirmed that Andy Carroll has signed a new 5-year contract, keeping him at the club until 2015. The move follows Carroll’s relegation to the bench at City last time out, a move which obviously broke the patience of some of his Fantasy owners. Carroll has been sold by over 30,000 Fantasy Premier League Managers in the current Gameweek and yet he will face four home matches in the next six, with Wigan, Sunderland, Blackburn and Fulham providing the opponents for those games. Personally, I think they’ll be 30,000+ managers feeling rather regretful over the next few weeks.

Everton are currently running tests on the hamstring injury sustained by Phil Jagielka whilst in training with England on Friday. Jagielka has returned to the club and there are also some “very unconfirmed” reports that he will be sidelined for a number of weeks. Regardless of whether you put any stock in that particular source, it’s clear that Jagielka is a major doubt for Sunday’s Merseyside derby. David Moyes will likely turn to Jonny Heitinga to fill the void alongside Distin in central defence. He will be an able replacement, but Jagielka’s loss would still come as a major blow for Moyes – particularly as his defence was showing promise with just a single goal conceded in the last three.

Heitinga’s shift to defence will relieve the clamour for places in midfield; Moyes’ options here have already been cut here by the recent injury to Steven Pienaar and there are also concerns over Tim Cahill’s availability for Sunday’s game. Cahill will likely start for Australia against Paraguay today, despite worries over a persistent knee problem. All these injuries in midfield could just add up to a prolonged run of starts for Seamus Coleman.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

more excellent up to date information Mark, thank you. If any one is able to provide their opinions it would be appreciated please. A question for the long term investment is west ham's Obinna or Carlton Cole? Also David Dunn crocked or being held back for post international break return?

Go with Obinna, I can assure you he will be a fantasy gem this season. Everyone has been burnt on David Dunn too many times, I wouldnt go near him until he's completed 10+ full games (might be waiting an awfully long time) hope this helps...

HAHAHA. Yes Dunn IS that injury prone and then some. I was one of the people caught out last year with his "probably start this week" week after week. Will never have him in my team again. I hate injury prone players.

Hi Denial, IF coleman continues to play well then I can see him in the team for a while and a complete steal at 4.4. The only concern would be any glaring error or a couple of poor games would mean he would be given short shrift...

You'll need to download a program to watch the majority of the links. "Sopcast" is the one I use. Google and you'll find it.

Its a great site but very confusing if you arent in the right timezone. When you know a game is on click on live sport at the top and it'll show you every single sporting event live at the time. Click on the one you want and there will be links to numerous sites which are streaming the match.

The veetle links i find work great, very simple to install and use as well. Sopcast is another good option but is confusing to operate and the matches can only be viewed fullscreen which is very blurry or a little box.

Click on the football icon at the top of the page, and that will bring up the list of matches that you can watch.

When you want to watch a match then click on the far right hand side icon (It looks like an old TV with an aerial on the top of it), then that will take you to a screen with all the different streams available for that match.

You can click on any of the links labelled "Play" and it will start the stream, but ONLY if you have the right software installed first.

I prefer the Sopcast or Veetle links, so just google those and download the software and those two should cover you for most of the streams.

(Not that I've ever done this, but a bloke down the pub told me how it works) 🙂

Got three players I'm looking to change

Givet 4.4, Routledge 4.5 and Harewood 4.2 and 2.6 in the bank

Been thinking about Bosingwa 5.6 when he's fit and then go for a 2 equal value cheaper players

    or
sticking with Rountlege and having 5.6 to spend on a striker like Odemwingie and Obinna or sticking with Harewood and have 5.9 left and getting Etherington

Any ideas or opinion? Would do this over a few weeks or use my wildcard.

    Cheers

There's bound to be a whole bunch of RMT's on Wednesday and Thursday after the extent of any injuries becomes apparent, so I'd seriously advise anyone to hold off any transfers until Friday.

Unless it's my opponent in the Cup Comp, who needs to make some major changes to avoid his team's value dropping like a stone, since that's the wisest option. 😉

Why don't you give it a rest with telling or 'advising' people when to make transfers, calm down on the self importance, if people wanted to wait then they would.

My advise is to do the transfers he wants when he wants, if he has made up his mind and waits then very often you have enough time to out think yourself, don't follow your instinct and then spend the next week boring us to tears because you knew you should have brought them in instead of him.

Makes sense to me, but what happens if he/she doesn't realise that there is another round of International games on Tuesday?

It happened the last time with tons of people transferring Walcott in (and look what happened then), so I'd prefer giving the advice that people wait until the aftermath to do any transfers.

Your advice is "Do what feels right", which strategically and tactically is worthless.

Why are you here if that's all you have to offer?

If you link your team and it was doing well, then I'd have some faith in your judgement, but since you don't then it's hard for me or anyone to take advice from you.

Me too sometimes, B&B. Got rid of an injured defender for someone else on Sat aft.

But that was more than a semi knee-jerk reaction because he got injured and his team were just abysmal.

And I wanted another particular player. 🙂

Its the risk you take, international matches do not guarantee injuries, you could also transfer a dead very in like Malouda, Berbatov or Rooney and watch them sit it out so its one of those things.

I'm not asking you to take my advise, im asking you to stop forcing yours on others.

I'm not forcing my adviCe on anyone.

They can take it or leave it as they see fit.

I only have two rules of thumb here:

                1) I don't take or give direct advice from/to anyone who hasn't linked their team.

                2) The people who spend most of their waking lives posting here (in some cases this forum is their home so they feel compelled to reply to everything) are just that. They are the stars here, but their advice is usually off the top of their heads because they feel like they MUST answer. And it's usually BS.

The members area looks really good, specially the opta stats. But if you join do you have to join the members league or is that optional?

I would prefer not to as I don't want others in my mini-league knowing I have paid for the advantage. There is £250 at risk in one of my leagues and it would be nice if my rivals didn't have access to the same info!

But without watching every game you won't know if there are players making an impression to grab your attention. Surely the stats are useful in this respect? Your comments are so unnecessary and negative towards the work being done on here sometimes.

If you don't tell them you've payed for it, they won't know. You don't have to join any leagues so your secret is safe. 🙂

Tbh, apart from the ticker I've hardly used any of the other features at all. I can't be bothered to sit here studying whose had the most passes etc for ages. But next year I'd happily pay £12.50 for the ticker alone tbh. So I'd say the members area is worth it.

Not begrudging £12.50 - has to be worth that for the info on the free site. The ticker can be found for free if you look hard enough. Although I do like the way you can manipulate the table and the colour code to see who has good fixtures.

Interested to know peoples views on the value of the stats though. Whether anyone has transferred in a played based on the stats which has then translated into good points.

Sounds good but that might only work if you had the same 12 people each with 2 teams, 1 in each league and picking their members league team based on the extra info available?

Like the new article style, nicely done. Pleased with Carroll signing a new deal, good news that, but the point to think most about for me is the unrest in the Birmingham camp. I thought they were a pretty solid unit, so solid in fact I've doubled up on their defence - but if they are unsettled they may be heading for a form dip, definitely have to keep an eye on it, unless anyone fancies swapping Dann for Ashley Cole? 😉

        Oooo tough corner that!
I wouldn't be overly confident on him starting the next one. Despite his FPL showing Perch really hasn't done badly enough to be dropped straight away, now without a doubt Simpson is the preferred RB, but I would expect him to come off the bench to gain a bit of action. It is 'only' against Wigan though, so maybe Hughton will decide it is a nice fixture to throw him into.
Short answer - I'm not sure, personally I wouldn't pick him for my FPL team for the next gameweek - but I WILL be transferring him in for Van Damme for GW9.

Ashley has been quite open with his idea for the club. Get young (preferably English) players, get them playing well - sell them for mucho ££££. Carroll before signing this contract might have his head turned in Jan and end up leaving for around £6m, now after the contract he will cost a helluva lot more.

Now I wouldn't say I'm keeping my Wildcard JUST for Frank Lampard, but I'd be reluctant to use it until I know what kind of form he will get in once he's fit again. Using it prior to his return is like a General committing all his reserves blithely ignoring the 20,000 enemies behind him.
