I’ve been toying with the idea of a random news article for a while; a quick mix of opinion and links to stories and events of the last 24-hours. The international break, and the unnerving hush that it brings around the Premier League, offered me the ideal opportunity. Here’s the first set of “Scout Scribbles” then…

So far it appears that Friday’s internationals have passed without any major injury concerns for us Fantasy Managers. Stoke’s Thomas Sorensen did however suffer a recurrence of his ongoing elbow injury which saw him subbed on 32 minutes in the 3-1 defeat to Portugal. Sorensen will be a doubt for Denmark’s qualifier with Cyprus on Tuesday and could also go into Stoke’s trip to Bolton as an injury concern for Tony Pulis. As a side note, Nani continued his sparkling form this season with a brace in that 3-1 win for Portugal.

The Bandwagonesque Rafael Van der Vaart came through 90 minutes for Holland as they ran out 1-0 winners in Moldova. Typically, Van der Vaart provided the assist for Klaas Jan Huntelaar’s winner. His new Fantasy owners will now be looking anxiously to Tuesday’s qualifier with Sweden in Amsterdam and hoping that he can again come through unscathed. Those who have yet to jump on board and have watched his price rise, will be hoping for something very different.

Reports in the Sun this morning, claim that Wes Brown feels that he may be given the elbow at Old Trafford following a pre-season slanging match with Alex Ferguson. Brown has yet to start a Premier League game this season and if there is indeed a rift in place, these latest reports are hardly likely to win him favour with Ferguson. Good news for John O’Shea owners perhaps.

Wes Brown isn’t the only Premier League player set to be victim of a loose lips – Birmingham’s Alexander Hleb is unlikely to benefit from his comments made to the press which were published on Friday. The report offered such gems as…

“In the recent Birmingham games there was a lot of struggle – they were ¬constantly hoofing the long ball forward.”

and

“The Birmingham style is not the kind of game I dreamed about.”

The frustrated St Andrews faithful must have loved that. Alex McLeish meanwhile, will of course deal with that in his own subtle little way I’m sure. He certainly offered little comfort to Hleb in his recent comments on Birmingham’s tactics. According to McLeish, we’re unlikely to see Birmingham shift to 4-4-2 for the foreseeable – apparently they don’t have a player who can make the ball stick up front. Obviously the 6 ft 8 in frame of Nikola Zigic isn’t up to the job; that was many “undisclosed” millions well spent then.

Newcastle have confirmed that Andy Carroll has signed a new 5-year contract, keeping him at the club until 2015. The move follows Carroll’s relegation to the bench at City last time out, a move which obviously broke the patience of some of his Fantasy owners. Carroll has been sold by over 30,000 Fantasy Premier League Managers in the current Gameweek and yet he will face four home matches in the next six, with Wigan, Sunderland, Blackburn and Fulham providing the opponents for those games. Personally, I think they’ll be 30,000+ managers feeling rather regretful over the next few weeks.

Everton are currently running tests on the hamstring injury sustained by Phil Jagielka whilst in training with England on Friday. Jagielka has returned to the club and there are also some “very unconfirmed” reports that he will be sidelined for a number of weeks. Regardless of whether you put any stock in that particular source, it’s clear that Jagielka is a major doubt for Sunday’s Merseyside derby. David Moyes will likely turn to Jonny Heitinga to fill the void alongside Distin in central defence. He will be an able replacement, but Jagielka’s loss would still come as a major blow for Moyes – particularly as his defence was showing promise with just a single goal conceded in the last three.

Heitinga’s shift to defence will relieve the clamour for places in midfield; Moyes’ options here have already been cut here by the recent injury to Steven Pienaar and there are also concerns over Tim Cahill’s availability for Sunday’s game. Cahill will likely start for Australia against Paraguay today, despite worries over a persistent knee problem. All these injuries in midfield could just add up to a prolonged run of starts for Seamus Coleman.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

I've been a long time PES fan personally but unfortunately I have to say that over the last few years (editions 9 and 10) FIFA have overtaken them.

I've read that 11 was supposed to be the first step back for PES though, but have not had the chance to try either of them out thoroughly.

If you have even a few braincells all you need to do is download a config file that has the real teams, kits and names, put it on a usb stick and upgrade your PES config. It's really not rocket-science... They even release configs that upgrade the players skillsets to their actual form at the time. You people spend all this time on your computers without taking the advantage of all the perks the world wide web provides.. baffling.

I ditched Bale and Sagna and replaced them with Van Der Vaart and O'Shea respectively. They better earn me some points, I had to use 4 to get the second switch in as I'd prematurely used my wildcard. This would have been a much better time to use it!

Why the f*ck is Nasri in there? He's only profitable when he's playing in the whole and that's only when Fabs isn't playing.

Williamson is in danger of being replaced by Sol Campbell.

Krul and Carson is a much better combo

Alcaraz plays for Wigan, I don't care how attacking he is

Boateng and Kolarov over Toure anyday

Other than it's good, if you can find money for Carroll to K.Jones that'd be good, but that's stretching it too much I think.

      Declan,

Becoming a member is exceptionally good value and the perks will only get better. If it is a matter of principle, think how the extra information can benefit your team performance. I am sure £12.50 will be money well spent and should help your ranking improve.

Regarding your team it is decent with a good mix of steady perfomers. Try and manage your team in line with the fixtures where possible.

Don't want to get rid of Alex (only going to one game by the looks of it) but:
Looks like the cheap backline is the way to go, having a top drawer midfield/forward line seems well worth it...

Thinking Bale, Alex out => Nani, Elmo in***

(hoping I haven't missed the boat on Nani, looked class during his international and WBA at home is a very nice fixture)
Would be my first point hit of the season

    Foster Krul
    Alex Konchesky Hughes Shawcross Jara
    Gerrard Malouda Bale Davies Barton
    Drogba Tevez Carroll

Then sometime in the near future, Gerrard turn into Fabregas.

I'm going to wait till closer to the deadline (Portugal faces Iceland I believe next week), but I'm wondering if my proposed transfers look worth a hit?***
    Cheers

Bale to Nani is a good move, I'm not sure getting rid of Alex is a great idea though, Chelsea clean sheets are the safest points in the game ans he has an attacking threat (hit the post a few times, not just the free kick).

If there is another way to get Nani without getting rid of Alex I would try and find it.

    Thoughts please;
I'm doing Gerrard ----) Fabregas, but thinking about getting rid of Alex for several reasons; first he's injured, but I saw that Bosingwa was declared fit, so I'm thinking he's more a rotation risk now that Bosingwa will play right back and Ivanovich can play sentral defender.....

Not convinced Simpson will start against Wigan. If you read the Newcastle fan forums, there is mixed opinion between Perch, Simpson and Taylor. However long term definitely threat of rotation

I think he will start. Will probably get 60-70 min. then Simpson will come on. That could actually mean Perch have a bigger chance to get a clean sheet.

My guess is that is Ivanovic will be OK while Alex is out and then will probably come off once or twice in games (depending on the score) to give Bosingwa a run-out. A short-term buy for me.

Bale and Fabregas + striker for 7.7
Garnder and Fabregas + striker for 9.4??

So basically I have to sell Torres and Gardner/Bale for Fabregas and striker 9.4/7.7....Suggestions?

Hard to say mate without knowing the rest of your side. Personally I'd look at Fabregas, Berbatov and then maybe Albrighton or Adam.

If I had Alex I would hold onto him at all costs though I think he might not come back until after the Wolves game. Still not fussed on Wigan's defensive capabilities, whilst I have had to eat humble pie about Elmo.

What would a good player do? I don't know but I'd go with Fabs/Elmo in; probably the way I am heading this week. Thinking of binning either Konchesky (Liverpool in shite form and he's injured) or Shawcross (fixtures poor)...

starting to think i should have just brought nano in instead of vdv this gw because of fixtures. since i don't have the cash to have both, just rotate them in/out depending on form and fixtures.

I hope Nani can eclipse VdV this week - he'll probably get the captain's armband...I have to say though that the way Spurs are playing to accommodate for VdV augers well. Moreover, the bare evidence suggests that he is a playmaker who doesn't seem too inhibited by the difficulty of the fixture...

Great thing about VdV is he is an absolutely greedy swine - he shoots at any opportunity which is great for us owners. I have the pair of them, and although I acknowledge that VdV's fixtures are a bit tricky I'll still be playing him.
King Eric, I take it that by
'...just rotate them in/out depending on form and fixtures'
You are intending to transfer them on a regular basis? Be careful there as with one or two injuries you could quickly find yourself bogged in a point hit mire.

        That's debate A.

Currently Nani is winning that arguement. Showing form i.e. 2 goals last night and a better fixture although the long term ambition is to have Fabregas in.

Debate B is whether I scrap the plan and start thinking of ways to squeeze both in although currently I can find any way of doing that.

        Yeah that's debate B.

There would be in the long term but it would have to come at the expense of one of the other big hitters i.e. tevez or malouda. At the moment I'm not prepared to spend a transfer on getting rid of them.

I can do it with a mass operation at the back although it means points hit gallore or using the wildcard.

You could probably get Nani and Fabregas whilst hanging onto Malouda if you were willing to have 2 4.5ish midfielders to rotate... Albrighton would rotate nicely with Ferguson, if that frees up enough cash?

Obviously that would come at the expensive of Bale, it'd hurt getting rid of the lad but he doesn't seem to offer enough value at the moment.

Dunno about getting Nani out, obviously we are talking about the future here so any potential injuries etc aside, I think that he has really taken his chance of a steady run in the Man U side. I think he has pretty much made himself undroppable, and as such he is a bargain as Man U's main creative force.
On the other hand you need Fabregas, any other options you can do to have both?

Well I've already transferred out Gerrard to get Fabregas in. Yes Gerrard might really pick up his game in the Merseyside derby, but at the moment Liverpool are just looking awful - while Everton played really well against Birmingham. Fabregas should be back (note the SHOULD) for the Birmingham game and will be a definite captain choice if he is on the teamsheet.
