Dirk Kuyt and Dan Agger are amongst the international injuries to add to Liverpool’s woes ahead of the Merseyside derby. At least the latest on Torres this morning is encouraging. Meanwhile Abou Diaby returns from injury to complete the 90 minutes for France and Fulham’s Fantasy favourite Mousa Dembele nears a return with the clash with Spurs in his sights.

Kuyt suffered an ankle injury and was forced off after 29 minutes of Holland’s win over Sweden in Amsterdam. The Dutchman was stretchered off and taken for immediate x-rays – although Liverpool have offered a statement stressing that they are yet to assess the injury, the early reports are already counting him out of Sunday’s Merseyside derby.

This comes as yet another blow for Roy Hodgson’s men who may already be without Fernando Torres who is struggling with an adductor strain. There is at least some encouraging news on his situation this morning. Liverpool’s Head of Sports Science and Sports Medicine Peter Brukner brings us this…

“He has had intense treatment over the last ten days and responded very well to that treatment. He’s ready to resume training today [Wednesday] and if we can build up his training and get through the next few days, then we are optimistic but not certain that he will be able to line up against Everton….He’ll join in the full training session on Thursday, then build up Friday and Saturday. If he gets through these sessions and he is able to stretch out fully and has no after effect from the sessions then he will be able to play.”

Elsewhere at Anfield, Dan Agger is a concern ahead of Sunday having lasted just 39 minutes of Denmark’s qualifier with Cyprus; he is now a doubt for Sunday with a groin injury. With no confirmation of Paul Konchesky’s return from a hamstring injury, Hodgson may now have to turn to Martin Kelly or an out of position Jamie Carragher to start at left-back. Given the off-field distractions, current form guide and the injury concerns, it’s fair to say that Everton will be fancying their chances. An Everton win with a clean sheet anyone? Certainly with a possible weak spot at left-back, Seamus Coleman looks even more tempting starting out on the right-flank for David Moyes’ men.

There will doubtless be further casualties of the international programme emerge in the next 24-hours as the stresses and strains of midweek games become apparent once clubs get to assess their players. Already we have doubts over Alexander Hleb of Birmingham and Ryan Nelsen of Blackburn who both missed their respective internationals through injuries. We await full details on that pair ahead of the weekend.

Man City’s Jerome Boateng can also be regarded a doubt for the trip to Blackpool on Sunday given that he missed Germany’s qualifier with Kazakhstan with flu. His possible absence could see a start for Zabaleta or Richards at right-back, although that pair are themselves both doubts with hamstring problems.

The other side of Manchester also have some problems with Ji-Sung Park reported as suffering pains in his right-knee whilst on international duty with South Korea. He was left out of their side that met Japan with the Korean coach, Cho Gwang-Rae, emphasising the need to rest the injury. This may have just been a precaution under orders from United, but with Giggs a doubt with a hamstring injury, Alex Ferguson will have limited options on the left-flank for the home clash with West Brom. We could see Bebe and Gabriel Obertan given an opportunity.

Abou Diaby is likely to be available for Arsene Wenger when the Gunners face Birmingham at the weekend. Diaby completed 90 minutes for France last night having recovered from an ankle injury. Diaby’s availability adds another body to the midfield with Cesc Fabregas also in line for a return following injury.

News on Mousa Dembele had been pretty scarce but a story on Fulham’s official site yesterday has now offered us Fantasy Managers a view on his progress. The signs are encouraging with the striker clearly putting himself in the frame for the weekend meet with Spurs at the Cottage…

“Now it’s alright, I’ve already trained three times with the group and I’ve had no pain, just if I shoot really hard, then I have a little bit…But I think in the following days that will disappear. I’m happy that the injury wasn’t that serious.”

Saturday may come too early for the striker, so Eddie Johnson could well find himself partnering Clint Dempsey in attack once again. Cleary we can put Dembele back on our watchlists for the trip to West Brom in Gameweek 9 however.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

    RePost!!!

Right…so…I, like so many others, have been trying to free up some cash for other “necessary” purchases. The Cashley and Malouda topics being high on most agendas. I did some research for myself to find alternatives to those 2 players, should I grow a big enuf pair to sell them. This is what I found:

    Cashley to Baines

Both have played 7 games and their stats read as such (Cashley stat first / Baines second):

    Touches: 76 / 74
    Succ Dribbles: 0.85 / 1.29
    Key Passes: 1 / 1.7
    Passes in Opp. Half: 23.7 / 24.6
    Crosses: 0.9 / 2.1
    Goal att: 5 / 3
    Goals: 0 / 0
    On target: 0 (1 hit woodwork + 1 disallowed) / 0
    Set Piece Att: 0 / 2
    Corners: 0 / 6
    Assists: 2 / 2
    Clean Sheet: 5 / 2

What I gather is that Baines is very unlucky to not be top of the defenders list currently. Successful dribbles and crosses averages higher than Cashley’s per game – This implies that should Everton convert more goals his assists will increase. Add 2 set piece attempts and 6 corners into the mix vs Cashley’s Zero and you can see his potential is greater. Cashley has 3 more clean sheets than him which has helped his cause greatly but let’s say Baines got 3 assists from his crosses so far (9pts) and kept 2 more clean sheets (8pts) he’d be on 44pts…1 behind Cashley.

Figures vs Actual results however prove that my theory is simply that…theory…BUT…if you factor in a bit of luck and an upturn in form and well…Baines could be a great prospect. He’s been just as good if not better and is only lower in points due to a bad start for Everton.

    Malouda to Nani (7 games)

    Touches: 68 / 63
    Succ Dribbles: 1.86 / 2.43
    Key Passes: 2.7 / 1.3
    Opp Half: 29.4 / 22.1
    Crosses: 0.4 / 1.9
    Goal Att: 19 / 18
    Goals: 6 / 2
    On Target: 8 / 6
    Assists: 0 / 6

Malouda seems the better option between these guys. However, Nani has not clocked up the same totals as Malouda on most stats but he has been more accurate with his. “Successful Dribbles” and “Crosses” are his strong points as he has 6 assists to his name already (Malouda = zero). Malouda has been nailing the goals and has the score to back those performances. If fixtures tighten up as they are doing now for Chelsea and the rotation factor comes into play (Nani almost certain to start a few games more) then you would probably want to back the accurate player. It really is 50/50 between these two guys but with assists, crosses and the accuracy of Nani…I can’t help but lean towards him should Malouda find scoring goals a bit tough. Malouda’s 54 is due to his goal scoring…has already made one sub appearance…Nani has 48 with a penalty miss to boot and also had one sub appearance yet got an assist (accuracy)…

Nani seems just as vital as Malouda and if your alternative option was him then I wouldn’t be too worried of losing out on Malouda’s potential…if you have both then well..NICE! There is no doubt that both players are performing and worth the selection.

Thanks for reading. I hope this helps someone other than me…

To be fair, Cole has come within inches of scoring a couple of goals, and if he had scored them, then his score would be monstrous. I get pretty scared - as an Alex owner - watching us play, because Cole spends so much time in the opposition half.

If I had him, I really wouldn't get rid. He has the potential for a massive score.

Great scout article. Personally I am for keeping Cashley and offloading Malouda for Nani. U must take into account and the price. Cashley has same amount of points as Tevez and look his price.

Very interesting analysis and I except Man Utd to improve their game and win next matches. Everton are still finding their form.

      Cheers,

Yeah...well like I said...if I grew a big enuf pair...Leaning towards the Malouda sale though as him and Nani aren't that far apart on actual stats where as the Baines / Cashley deal is still very much speculation with "if's" "but's" and "when's"...and Cashley is very much leading the pack there...

I've just seen bloody Quantum leap is on ITV4, I don't know how long it's been on, but it will save me getting another box set.

I can't say I've ever seen Criminal Minds, but I'm pretty sure that I can safely say that it can't be anywhere near as good a police procedural drama as The Wire (which I'm surprised has not been mentioned yet).

While I'm at it, I'll also put my word behind Dexter and Breaking Bad, and also suggest comedies such as It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia and The Mighty Boosh!

I'll look out for that Philadelphia thing. I've seen all the boosh and I have a box set.

Criminal Minds isn't really the same thing as the wire. It's more like Dawsons creek does behavioural analysis, but it's better than that. I think the stories are just really well thought out.

It's Always Sunny has been referred to as "Seinfeld on crack". There is also How I Met Your Mother if you have never given that a shot. Solid sitcom with plenty going for it. Nothing groundbreaking plot-wise, but the way they deliver it sometimes is very unique/innovative.

A sad day for football, Liverpool and their idiot fans that supported the Benitez regime deserved to go into administration and to destruct.

The fact that the foolish fans are happy that they are replacing a set of American businessmen with no love for football with another set of American businessmen with no love for football speaks volumes.

Maybe I'm not old enough to remember that, however, that means we might as well lose about 80% of football clubs working on your sanctimonious criteria then Chill Pill. And we can all cheer on glorious Arsenal.

You just want to laugh at one of your rivals ("they're not our rivals any more!") burning. What a horrible attitude. Why don't you just concentrate on what Arsenal do, and not encourage the dissolution of another club with great heritage that has little or nothing to do with you.

Not at all Saint Andrew, they have a lot to answer for, always the victims, never the cause.

This has nothing to do with Arsenal or any other club, I'm just disappointed they never got their just rewards, they were happy when they got taken over, they thought they would reclaim top spot from United, it went wrong and everyone had to hear about their misery for the last few years, just a shame it didn't have a happy ending.

The moral of the story is be careful what you wish for but they are at it again and I'm sure its doomed for failure.

    Hi guys and gals,

Would appreciate some advice. I'm planning to get Fabs in this week, should I do:

Alex/Nasri OUT Elmo/Fabs IN , and next week do Konchesky to Bosingwa (if he starts this gw)

    Or

Konchesky/Nasri OUT and Jara (or another 4m defender)/Fabs IN and bench Alex.

I would be taking a 4pt either way.

    Allo boys and girls,

So this is my dilemma for the wkend. Both free transfers are used. I still have an injured Harper in goal. Do I take a 4 pt hit and get in a GK for him or stick my faith in Foster (away to Arsenal) and keep the 4 pts.

If the former, who is a better short to mid term choice out of Krul and Al-Habsi?

    Cheers
