Dirk Kuyt and Dan Agger are amongst the international injuries to add to Liverpool’s woes ahead of the Merseyside derby. At least the latest on Torres this morning is encouraging. Meanwhile Abou Diaby returns from injury to complete the 90 minutes for France and Fulham’s Fantasy favourite Mousa Dembele nears a return with the clash with Spurs in his sights.

Kuyt suffered an ankle injury and was forced off after 29 minutes of Holland’s win over Sweden in Amsterdam. The Dutchman was stretchered off and taken for immediate x-rays – although Liverpool have offered a statement stressing that they are yet to assess the injury, the early reports are already counting him out of Sunday’s Merseyside derby.

This comes as yet another blow for Roy Hodgson’s men who may already be without Fernando Torres who is struggling with an adductor strain. There is at least some encouraging news on his situation this morning. Liverpool’s Head of Sports Science and Sports Medicine Peter Brukner brings us this…

“He has had intense treatment over the last ten days and responded very well to that treatment. He’s ready to resume training today [Wednesday] and if we can build up his training and get through the next few days, then we are optimistic but not certain that he will be able to line up against Everton….He’ll join in the full training session on Thursday, then build up Friday and Saturday. If he gets through these sessions and he is able to stretch out fully and has no after effect from the sessions then he will be able to play.”

Elsewhere at Anfield, Dan Agger is a concern ahead of Sunday having lasted just 39 minutes of Denmark’s qualifier with Cyprus; he is now a doubt for Sunday with a groin injury. With no confirmation of Paul Konchesky’s return from a hamstring injury, Hodgson may now have to turn to Martin Kelly or an out of position Jamie Carragher to start at left-back. Given the off-field distractions, current form guide and the injury concerns, it’s fair to say that Everton will be fancying their chances. An Everton win with a clean sheet anyone? Certainly with a possible weak spot at left-back, Seamus Coleman looks even more tempting starting out on the right-flank for David Moyes’ men.

There will doubtless be further casualties of the international programme emerge in the next 24-hours as the stresses and strains of midweek games become apparent once clubs get to assess their players. Already we have doubts over Alexander Hleb of Birmingham and Ryan Nelsen of Blackburn who both missed their respective internationals through injuries. We await full details on that pair ahead of the weekend.

Man City’s Jerome Boateng can also be regarded a doubt for the trip to Blackpool on Sunday given that he missed Germany’s qualifier with Kazakhstan with flu. His possible absence could see a start for Zabaleta or Richards at right-back, although that pair are themselves both doubts with hamstring problems.

The other side of Manchester also have some problems with Ji-Sung Park reported as suffering pains in his right-knee whilst on international duty with South Korea. He was left out of their side that met Japan with the Korean coach, Cho Gwang-Rae, emphasising the need to rest the injury. This may have just been a precaution under orders from United, but with Giggs a doubt with a hamstring injury, Alex Ferguson will have limited options on the left-flank for the home clash with West Brom. We could see Bebe and Gabriel Obertan given an opportunity.

Abou Diaby is likely to be available for Arsene Wenger when the Gunners face Birmingham at the weekend. Diaby completed 90 minutes for France last night having recovered from an ankle injury. Diaby’s availability adds another body to the midfield with Cesc Fabregas also in line for a return following injury.

News on Mousa Dembele had been pretty scarce but a story on Fulham’s official site yesterday has now offered us Fantasy Managers a view on his progress. The signs are encouraging with the striker clearly putting himself in the frame for the weekend meet with Spurs at the Cottage…

“Now it’s alright, I’ve already trained three times with the group and I’ve had no pain, just if I shoot really hard, then I have a little bit…But I think in the following days that will disappear. I’m happy that the injury wasn’t that serious.”

Saturday may come too early for the striker, so Eddie Johnson could well find himself partnering Clint Dempsey in attack once again. Cleary we can put Dembele back on our watchlists for the trip to West Brom in Gameweek 9 however.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Do people see Elmander as an actual prospect, I know he has done well, but I am on WC and I feel all wrong about looking at him in my team, other strikers in that bracket?

I think as far as strikers go, you're kind of spoiled for choice.
Drogba and Torres, a wealth of value players, and then the likes of Berbatov, Chamakh etc.

Not really too keen on Elmander myself.

I wouldn't be too fussed with fixtures, he seems to be delivering the goods and there is no reason why he shouldn't carry on...I wouldn't think he would be a long term investment though...His form can't be ignored...

I took out Carroll due to recent performances and Odemwingie looked to more consistant and I thought I would make .2 on him, I was wrong on price front, and I may be wrong abut Carroll, would be killer to bring Carroll back in having to pay full whack now, oh well

            Goal:
            Gilks?

            Defence:
Jara and Simpson rotate, Cole and O'Shae play most matches, Elmo is a 'safe' cover. Nice.

            Midfield:
Barton instead of Cleverly would allow you to rotate betwen WBA, NEW and BOL depending on fixtures

            Strikers:
Making the most of the value players, but there's always the risk of their points drying up and no ManC coverage.

Interesting that you've gone for VDV / Arteta over Mal despite having the cash.....

cheers BB, it is still all up in the air, and Malouda is in my team despite my plans. I need the balls to drop him, I fancy Arteta to start getting in amongst the goals with Cahill back to his best, VDV's fixtures are pants but I have made my .1 at the very least and can offload before deadline, I am happy with my defence that will stay I think, I had Boateng instead of Cole, but I feel like if I remove Malouda, Cole is the next best thing, if not better, so defence will stay, variations on Midfield and Strikers will change, Gilks is cheap and I don't want to double up on Newcastle or West Brom defences so is the only option at 4.0, to Jamsiep, I don't want two 4.6 keepers, need the cash elsewhere.

Thanks to all for the replies

No idea if this interests you Johnny Unitas, but Elmander seems to have completely shaken off his finger injury that made him a doubt for yesterday's game. He had a very very poor game though, but it's hard to draw any conclusions from that for obvious reasons.

I personally think he is good value at that price as Coyle seems to have faith in him and as yesteday's good article on here suggested he is involved in a Bolton goal every 97 minutes and also plays basically every minute. The only other players with stats that matched him were basically 9m+.

    GW8 - Carrol > Tevez (4pt hit)
    GW9 - Bale/Arteta > Adam
    GW10 - Malouda > Fabs

Dont like the carrol/tevez hit. Not to sure tevez will do that great vs BP(taking the hit in consideration)

Why pick adam in gw9 when he plays away? Pick him gw8 at home Id say.

Personally i want Malouda AND Fab. But thats me.

I'm quite surprised looking at my spreadsheet...

Drogba is scoring well, but with his high price (especially if you're thining of buying him now) he's still not justifying it compared to other strikers such as Berbatov, Carroll, Odem and Elmander.

I have Berbatov, Drogba, Carroll which overall does seem decent value collectively, but for anyone who doesn't own Drogba at the moment, it might not be such an easy decision to bring him at all now.

I have too much value 'locked' in him now really to risk transferring him out, so yeah he's a keeper.

Surprising though that Berbatov (on the prices that I paid for them both) is better value than Drogba.

That's also with Lampard out and Chelsea having an extremely kind of run of opening fixtures.

Oh sweet jesus it just gets worse. You said i must be stupid for being behind a guy who has never had Drogba. I said hes on 435 and asked if you had more. You said 'Obviously, i have Drogba' which suggests you have more. Now your saying you dont have more then 435 which means your also getting beaten by a team without Drogba. This makes your initial point invalid.

                    "Obviously. I have Drogba"

You said(actually bet me) he had more than me. You never asked me if I had more. I answered you.

Drogba is great value because you can captain him virtually any week, which you can't with most other players, aside from Fabregas.

Get Fabs in and downgrade either Tevez or Bent. No need for all 3 of those strikers.

Ditch VdV for Fabs and probably Tevez for Carroll.

Actually, do something about your defense too, its nonsense.

You could always wait until GW10 and give Fabregas a bit more time.

I'm on WC and contemplating keeping VDV & Bale in for GW8 & 9 and then transferring Bale out (at the moment) for Fabs.

Still undecided. If Fabregas will play I'll have Fabs for GW8.

Soon everyone will have Fab...im hoping that getting him early will pay off. It may of course not - esp with his history of recurring injuries. I am however chasing rivals so im already taking slight risks. (i prob wouldnt take the hit if i was leading in my leagues etc)

Just looking at Nani's stats... bar that missed penlaty at Fulham he would be the top scoring player in the game after Drogba...

    48 + 5 Goal + 2 missed pen cancelled + 3 BPs = 58 total

I know its an "if" but surely by the end of the season he'll be on >200 pts... & a 10+m price tag next year?

He's not going to be getting too many more penalties this year. Fergie rarely singled him out as letting United down against I think it was Fulham. But while he's a nailed-on starter, I agree he's essential.

sorry for my tardiness, just had a deadline.

I've been freelance for about seven years now after having staff jobs at local papers and trade magazines. I write for whoever pays, mainly websites, professional mags and I edit an indie music blog as well.

Most importantly I have never and will never write for the Daily Mail.

is it wrong that I felt extremely dissappointed when the judge ruled in favour of the board?

As a pool fan I would take -3 pts to see H&G not profit. I can't see us finishing top 6 this year anyways but am positive even if we had -3 now that we would get easily out of relegation spots.

          that is seriously deluded...

Why risk the future of your club over some petty bitterness?

Just Red Sox, but I believe that is to put preasure on H&G etc

But really my point was more from 3 options...

                    A) Pool gets sold and move on
                    B) Pool forced into administration, sold and moves on
                    C) H&G keep control, nothing improves, no investment only debt

Then my choice is A and the B

If we were in bottom 3 places and 28 games into the season, and selling our players to stay solvent then I'd be very worried about a 9 point deduction. But assuming B results in a buyer and investment then I'm very confident Pool would make up a 9 point penalty

It is interesting though, because we are continually being told that Chelsea are so ruthless and score with most of their chances... And to be honest, I can't remember any occasion where I've felt that Malouda has been robbed of an assist (whereas it happens to Bale the whole time, *shakes fist at Keane and Pavyluchenko!)

Perhaps it is genuinely because these 'key passes' have just led to long shots from Lampard/Essien/Drogba.

A 'key pass' is a pass that leads to shot on goal, right?

On the evidence of the Charity Shield game, I'd rather have Ivanovic at right back than at CB with JT. He's more than capable at RB (hell, he was in the PFA team of the year last season!) and is a more rounded RB then the Bos is...

Even at the beginning of last season, when Bos seemed to be first choice, it appeared that Carlo didn't quite trust him in the 'big games'. Ivanovic started the Charity Shield final and a game against Liverpool, with Bosingwa fit..

I'm sure there'll be some rotation clouding the issue, but in general I'd imagine that the back four with be:

        Ivan/Bos Alex EBJT Cole

....with Bosingwa probably playing the easier home games.

Interesting. I agree that Ivanovic is a better defender but I think he's kind of "hidden" and not tested enough at RB as Chelsea are so strong everywhere else. I suppose it doesn't matter about his attacking prowess if you have Cole and Malouda down the other side, but I'd be attacking down Chelsea's right hand side and putting him under more pressure. Not that I can of course

I also get the feeling that Ancelotti doesn't trust Bosingwa. Pity as he's so cheap on FPL

I really don't like Robinsons fixtures, Man U/Chelsea/Liverpool/Spurs/Villa in the next 8 games, ouch.

That defence does not give you many options, and you need to free up some cash elsewhere imo to upgrade Foley, Wolves fixtures are absolutely pants in the next 5-6 with Man U/Chelsea/Man City and Arsenal, coupled with the fact he may lose his place to Zubar once he is fit, Foley OUT.

Etherington OUT Barton/Cleverley IN and upgrade Foley to Bolton defender or Alcaraz

Other than that, team is fine

No he wasn't - he just said he was happy where he was, but he wasn't ruling out anything in the future, and then he complemented Naples. That's pretty reasonable in my book.

If your boss said to you "Are you going to work here forever?" it would be reasonable for you to say "well, I'm happy here at the moment, but in the future, who knows?" isn't being disrespectful in any way.

However, if your boss then says to everyone else "He doesn't see himself as having a future here" that immediately puts a slant on it, and skews it beyond recognition. This is what the English press do (when they're not stealing information, actively harrassing people or just making up lies), and it isn't journalism.

He told Radio Radio: "Me in Napoli? Now I'm a Manchester City player and I feel fine in England.

This implies that someone said to him "so are you thinking about moving to Napoli?", not that he just bought up the subject.

If someone says to him "So, are you pregnant with Roberto Mancini's child?" and he says "no", they'd just print an article headlined "Striker denies secret love shame - but rules out pregnancy".

Starts? Probably the next two games. After that, unless he's really staked a claim, he'll have a proper contest on his hands versus Osman, Bily, Hibbert, Neville, Pienaar (etc).

Neville, when fit, will always start. As weird as it sounds he's vital - like some kind of cheerleader who kicks anything that moves. So in my opinion neville is first choice RB. I'd say that Moyes doesn't trust Coleman as a defender yet but he's ahead of Bily and maybe Osman as far as midfield goes, whereas Pienaar plays mainly on the left side. However I agree that it's not clear cut

The return of Nicklas Bendtner (see tweets) should really spell the end of people's interest in Chamakh. They're quite similar, are they not? Arsenal fans will have to correct me on this one but I don't see the team benefitting from having them on the pitch at the same time for longer periods.

      RVP > Chamakh > Bendtner > Vela
Bendtner will score more goals but Chamakh works harder on the pitch, plays well and supports the Midfielders more - he'll also score some goals[mostly with his head though]
Personally i'm getting neither of the two, sticking with Fab &Arsh
