Dirk Kuyt and Dan Agger are amongst the international injuries to add to Liverpool’s woes ahead of the Merseyside derby. At least the latest on Torres this morning is encouraging. Meanwhile Abou Diaby returns from injury to complete the 90 minutes for France and Fulham’s Fantasy favourite Mousa Dembele nears a return with the clash with Spurs in his sights.

Kuyt suffered an ankle injury and was forced off after 29 minutes of Holland’s win over Sweden in Amsterdam. The Dutchman was stretchered off and taken for immediate x-rays – although Liverpool have offered a statement stressing that they are yet to assess the injury, the early reports are already counting him out of Sunday’s Merseyside derby.

This comes as yet another blow for Roy Hodgson’s men who may already be without Fernando Torres who is struggling with an adductor strain. There is at least some encouraging news on his situation this morning. Liverpool’s Head of Sports Science and Sports Medicine Peter Brukner brings us this…

“He has had intense treatment over the last ten days and responded very well to that treatment. He’s ready to resume training today [Wednesday] and if we can build up his training and get through the next few days, then we are optimistic but not certain that he will be able to line up against Everton….He’ll join in the full training session on Thursday, then build up Friday and Saturday. If he gets through these sessions and he is able to stretch out fully and has no after effect from the sessions then he will be able to play.”

Elsewhere at Anfield, Dan Agger is a concern ahead of Sunday having lasted just 39 minutes of Denmark’s qualifier with Cyprus; he is now a doubt for Sunday with a groin injury. With no confirmation of Paul Konchesky’s return from a hamstring injury, Hodgson may now have to turn to Martin Kelly or an out of position Jamie Carragher to start at left-back. Given the off-field distractions, current form guide and the injury concerns, it’s fair to say that Everton will be fancying their chances. An Everton win with a clean sheet anyone? Certainly with a possible weak spot at left-back, Seamus Coleman looks even more tempting starting out on the right-flank for David Moyes’ men.

There will doubtless be further casualties of the international programme emerge in the next 24-hours as the stresses and strains of midweek games become apparent once clubs get to assess their players. Already we have doubts over Alexander Hleb of Birmingham and Ryan Nelsen of Blackburn who both missed their respective internationals through injuries. We await full details on that pair ahead of the weekend.

Man City’s Jerome Boateng can also be regarded a doubt for the trip to Blackpool on Sunday given that he missed Germany’s qualifier with Kazakhstan with flu. His possible absence could see a start for Zabaleta or Richards at right-back, although that pair are themselves both doubts with hamstring problems.

The other side of Manchester also have some problems with Ji-Sung Park reported as suffering pains in his right-knee whilst on international duty with South Korea. He was left out of their side that met Japan with the Korean coach, Cho Gwang-Rae, emphasising the need to rest the injury. This may have just been a precaution under orders from United, but with Giggs a doubt with a hamstring injury, Alex Ferguson will have limited options on the left-flank for the home clash with West Brom. We could see Bebe and Gabriel Obertan given an opportunity.

Abou Diaby is likely to be available for Arsene Wenger when the Gunners face Birmingham at the weekend. Diaby completed 90 minutes for France last night having recovered from an ankle injury. Diaby’s availability adds another body to the midfield with Cesc Fabregas also in line for a return following injury.

News on Mousa Dembele had been pretty scarce but a story on Fulham’s official site yesterday has now offered us Fantasy Managers a view on his progress. The signs are encouraging with the striker clearly putting himself in the frame for the weekend meet with Spurs at the Cottage…

“Now it’s alright, I’ve already trained three times with the group and I’ve had no pain, just if I shoot really hard, then I have a little bit…But I think in the following days that will disappear. I’m happy that the injury wasn’t that serious.”

Saturday may come too early for the striker, so Eddie Johnson could well find himself partnering Clint Dempsey in attack once again. Cleary we can put Dembele back on our watchlists for the trip to West Brom in Gameweek 9 however.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Jaaskelainen or Krul to replace Harper? My other GK is Foster.

    Krul:
+ Newcastle have better fixtures and rotate very well with Birmingham
    + 0.6m cheaper
    - Harper will be back in +-2 months

    Jaaskelainen:
    + first choice and experienced
+ I can get Simpson as a cheap Newcastle defender
    - couple of weeks when both Bolton and Birmingham have a difficult away game

well the obvious choice for this weekend is united, so i dont think il do that!

looking at newcastle at home to wigan or wolves at home to west ham

getting rid of wolves is tempting enough, but so risky! that has draw written all over it? Maybe everton since they're playing the worst team in the league?

I'd like to be under the sea
In an octopus' garden in the shade
He'd let us in, knows where we've been
In his octopus' garden in the shade

I'd ask my friends to come and see
                    An octopus' garden with me
I'd like to be under the sea
In an octopus' garden in the shade.

We would be warm below the storm
In our little hideaway beneath the waves
Resting our head on the sea bed
In an octopus' garden near a cave

We would sing and dance around
because we know we can't be found
I'd like to be under the sea
In an octopus' garden in the shade

We would shout and swim about
The coral that lies beneath the waves
                    (Lies beneath the ocean waves)
Oh what joy for every girl and boy
Knowing they're happy and they're safe
                    (Happy and they're safe)

We would be so happy you and me
No one there to tell us what to do
I'd like to be under the sea
In an octopus' garden with you.

    Hi fellas,
I want to get Fabs into my side over the next few weeks without too many points hits and I'm deliberating backwards and forwards about who to drop and it's driving me mad.
The candidates for dropage are :

    Malouda
    Tevez
    Hart
    Berbs

    My team is:

    Hart (Stockdale)
    Elmo Samba Enrique Dann Alcaraz
    Malouda VDV Nani Yaya Albrighton
    Drogs Berbs Tevez

I'd really like to NOT drop Malouda, though he's the easiest route - Mal to Fabs and Yaya to Cleverly or someone.

Wouldn't mind dropping Berbs but I can't drop him and Yaya and still do it in two transfers. It would have to be Tevez, which I really don't want to do.

    Opinions pls?

just done malouda for fabs (i had a bit of spare cash)- but more of a heart than a head decision. Think you can probably wait til next week tho. We pretty much have same team from midfield forward (bar yaya). But I reckon chelsea points fest is probably over for a bit

If u are reluctant to offload Malouda then stick to your side it looks good. Bring Cesc in GW 10. In meanwhile downgrading
Hart in order to gain cash is an option.

Yeah it would be GW10. Berbs is the sensible more balanced route. I think I'll be patient for once (I'm almost as bad as Oli Reed for points hits). Just hoping Fabs doesn't do much next 2 weeks 🙂

I am pleasantly suprised at the lack of price changes this international break. There seemed to be a lot more during the last one (when i used my wildcard) but i havent been affected by them in a bad way this time. I know its only Wednesday and the majority of transfers will be made from now on. However, i'm happy 🙂

    p.s. All buy VDV

Right, seriously, someone give me another striker to buy who isn't Dimitar Berbatov? I Really don't want to buy Dimitar Berbatov (I like him and I know it's the 'right thing' to do, I just don't want to. /obstinance).

Obinna is the only other one I've got on my shortlist at the moment, and been able to come up with and be semi satisfied with... I'm just getting my fixture brain telling me "he's got three away games ...(and plays for west ham!)" shouting at me.

        It's a bit annoying.

If you are able to bench him for the ars and bir games, then he'd be a cracking option.

And you could use the money to upgrade lovely Dorrans!

What's the pros for Obinna over Piquionne? I'm personally looking at da Costa as my prime option from West Ham though. If I dare, that is.

I'd imagine if Carlton Cole ever gets back Piquionne is a greater danger of losing his place than Obinna, being the "lump".

Obinna is more enigmatic, if infuriating, from the times I've seen him.

Oh, and Dorrans is upgraded. Cesc to Dorrans is a cert, I'm just selling Torres to finance it and trying to come up with options other than Berbatov.

Is Cole injured? I just thought that Grant decided that he was crap... Their fixtures have been much better since he was dropped/injured so I can't see him getting back in the side any time soon.

I know and accept it's a good team, but I'm like a smackhead for at least one or two punts in my midfield/strikeforce that need to chance regularly... getting Berbatov puts that out to pasture.

It's a quandry of styles, I accept Berba is the best bet - it's just whether I'm willing to sacrifice some of my joy in playing this game.

As I was saying to Jonny a couple of days ago, I'd be content in having Bent in my team right now... but I'm not sure I'd feel right buying him considering Sunderlands run and spell of away fixtures to come.

If I had him, I'd certainly stick through this patch (I love him like he's Torre's grandson), but buying him just seems a skew-whiff.

              I could/would never bench a fit Bent.

It's just the fixtures that preclude Bent for me - he's a good pick generally. Saha is way beyond glass and is the most brittle substance known to man. Carew is having a poor season so out of that range it has to be Berbatov - unless of course you were to go down the REALLY chancy/brave route and get in Yakubu - he might finally do the business against a dispirited Liverpool.

Fabregas may not play the full 90, but he'll get an assist and bonus, minumum, in my opinion.

Its a possibility. You can only go on what you've seen so far and O'Shea has played 90 minutes in every game. Maybe ask AP, Akers or an other Utd fan.

As a Utd fan, I'm surprised he's played every minute for us so far - that's usually the preserve of Evra out of our back 4. There is competition at right back from GNev, Brown and Rafael, but I would hold on to O'Shea until any rotation happens.

If Rio gets back to full fitness, then O'Shea might start getting rotated because Rio - Vidic - Evra are usually nailed on starters, but with Rio in and out of the side, I can't see Fergie rotating the other defenders too much.
