When compared to the vast majority of sides that have previously been promoted from the Championship, Blackpool’s impact in the Premier League has been a real breath of fresh air. Pre-season, most talk was centred around Ian Holloway and how -somewhat patronisingly- the Seasiders’ boss would bring a “bit of character” to the top division, but the first seven gameweeks have seen his team’s on-pitch performances grab the headlines instead.

Central to the team’s success has been the club’s playmaker Charlie Adam. The ex-Rangers man currently sits on 38pts in the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) game, the third-highest scoring midfielder in the game so far, behind only Florent Malouda and Nani. A breakdown of his points shows Adam has scored 2 goals, made 2 assists and has 9 Bonus Points, being awarded the maximum 3 on 3 occasions, including the club’s last game, the 2-1 win at Anfield, where he bagged a penalty. In terms of midfielders, only Mikel Arteta can match this as a Bonus “darling”.

A look at our OPTA Stats, showing Adam’s involvement in the games, may explain why this is. Only three players have saw more of the ball; his 616 “Touches” is more than the likes of Arteta and Steven Gerrard and just five behind Paul Scholes. His 15 “Shots at Goal” have him in the top ten midfielders, and defensive-wise, he’s also in the top ten midfielders for “Duels”, “Aerial Duels”, “Loose Ball Recoveries” and “Blocks”. Added to the fact he’s on set-pieces and penalties, and it becomes clearer to see exactly not just how influential Adam is for Blackpool, but, perhaps, how eye-catching he may be to the Bonus Point judges.

With most people expecting Graham Dorrans to be the main Fantasy option from the promoted sides, thanks to Holloway’s attacking ethos, Adam has subsequently out-shone his fellow Scot by some margin already. Blackpool’s approach to games has meant that, despite playing five of their first seven matches away from home, they tend to get amongst the goals, with only Chelsea and Arsenal keeping clean sheets against Holloway’s men so far.

Adam comes in at just £5.2m and is owned by 9% of FPL managers so far. Such a low price means that, in terms of “Value“, he is joint-top, with West Brom’s Peter Odemwingie. Blackpool now have four of their seven fixtures at home (MCY, bir, WBA, EVE, avl, whm, WOL) though judging by their displays so far, it almost seems an irrelevance as to what ground their fixtures are played on. The one constant that does flow through them, however, is the Fantasy potential of Charlie Adam.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

    Hahnemann --> Mignolet
    Bale --> Fabregas
    Yaya --> Ferguson

    To leave me with....

    Foster Mignolet
    Alex Jones Faye Perch Konchesky
    Malouda Davies Bale Nani Yaya
    Carroll Tezez Drogba

    .. and nothing in the bank.

    Worth a 4 point hit?

      Sorry the new team should read:

        Mignolet may be at risk now that Gordon is back, and was on the bench last day, may get starts soon. That being said, Wolves have awful fixtures so Hahnemann OUT isn't a bad call, I would be looking at Krul as he rotates well with Foster 9 (albeit you will be doubling up on Newcastle defence)

        I would prefer Cleverley over Ferguson, more attacking, Martinez loves him,and with a return to United due in January, he has a point to prove.

        Bale I feel has seen his time in the sun and this coupled with fixtures, Fabregas is a great acquisition, worth the 4 points in my view

          Am also considering a slightly more risky non-Fabregas-based side:

          Hahnemann --> Jaaskelainen
          Davies --> Adam
          Bale --> Van der Vaart

          =

          Foster Jaaskelainen
          Alex Jones Faye Perch Konchesky
          Malouda Adam VDV Nani Yaya
          Carroll Tezez Drogba
          [Bank: 2.2]

          Looks pretty good to me, although I hate not to have Fabregas... is it FPL suicide not to have him?

        To be honest, he was by far the worst player on the pitch yday (France/Luxembourg). Everyone in France agrees that the guy is really tired. I cant see him rested vs Villa, but he can not continue playing two games a week imo

            I am willing to take the risk that he will be rested against Wolves after Champions League when Kalou is fit and well, and outside of Wolves he has Villa away, Liverpool away and Blackburn away, not the worst fixtures no, but I want Fabregas, if I have to get him back, I will find a way, Drog will be the only Chelsea cover I have for time being

          He played okay from what I can tell, he had a few half chances to score, but they were saved well. I just think, WC week, I can bring in Tevez next week if Rooney does nothing, and Tevez isn't going to go mental this weekend either I sense, whereas Rooney is fit, is playing West Brom at home, who despite being no pushovers, are still playing at Old Trafford, all Roon needs is a bit of luck, a goal off his ear or something and let the floodgates open and transfers start!

      I actually enjoyed going to the pub to watch the England game last night.

      Partly because I had a clear view of the Scotland game, but also because I had an argument with my mate before the game about how terrible Glen Johnson is, how Gareth Barry shouldn’t get in the City team, and how David Silva is clearly better than Adam Johnson.

      So thank you Glen Johnson (and Barry, but mainly Glen) for putting in a brilliant display. LOL!

      I notice Everton have some good fixtures coming up from GW10. Definately looking for some defensive coverage and maybe midfield coverage. Which is the best combination for GW10+11..

      Baines + Arteta or Distin + Arshavin

      Arsenal being West Ham, then Newcastle both at home,
      Everton being Stoke at home, followed by Blackpool away.

          fair enough!

          It would just suit, need to free up .3 to afford fabregas

          and plan on getting rid of both konchesky and van damme pretty soon.

          BUT i am now thinking

          n zogbia -> adam
          gerrard-> fabregas could be the way to go.

          cash works out perfectly

      Lads I really need advice. Which transfer to be made as a 4 point hit. I need to make cash.

      A.J. - Adam and play him at home (which means benching Barton/Bale) or,

      Schawcross - Mummy (otherwise I'll need to play Schawcross and probably get 1 pt from him. )

      and why?

      Cheers,

        Mummy will probably only get you one point too - he has tough fixtures ahead so no point taking a hit.
        I'd do move 1 and bench Bale.

        the first thing i'll say to you is that you really don't need to make some cash. Daft reason for a hit.

        stupid getting adam in for hit and losing two players that cud go crazy and have decent fixtures.

        And mummy is away from home.

        So all in all, a pretty steaming turd of a proposed mini-plan you got there 🙂

      the eternal debate- anyone confident of Johnson starting versus Blackpool?

      Also lads, im as close as apube-width of hitting widcard, but the only thing holding me back is Fabregas needing maybe a couple of games before he proves to me he's 100% fit. He could easily pull up again, the last challenge that knocked him out was pretty damn inocuous...

        If you're not seriously lagging behind (under 325) then there is little point doing a wildcard until you know what's going on with Lampard - he could come back and be an absolute point monster again. But you should try and squeeze Fabregas in if poss.

        Fab will be on for 60 mins max at first, especially with Diaby, Bendtner and Walcott looking at easing their way back in. But he can be lethal in 60 so I reckon it's worth it, even if only 70% fit and only playing 60 mins.

      Big question - is Fabregas REALLY worth tearing your team apart for? Even with a wildcard at my disposal this week, to fit the mercurial Spaniard in im having to downgrade my defence, miss out on transfering in Tevez upfront and losing Malouda. When it comes to the crunch I either have to miss out on the likes of Joe Hart, Tevez, Malouda etc to fit him in or I could stick with the in form Nasri and maintain a balanced strong squad. Is Fabs worth 4.6m more than Nasri?

      Foster/Robinson
      Coleman/Mummy/O'Shea/Gohouri/Ferreira or Jose Enrique (with view for Alex)
      Nani/Malouda/Fabregas/Albrighton/Adam
      Drogs/Berbs/Odemwingie

      Not sure whether to risk Ferreira, assuming he will play with Chelsea's defensive injuries.

      A.Cole - Koralov - J.Enrique - Jara - Gohouri

      Fabs - VdV - Nani - Adam - Albrighton

      Drogba - Tevez - Carroll

        Great. Only I am concerned about that goalkeeper combo and Gohouri's starting place.

          Any ideas on how to tinker with it though? I can downgrade Koralov to a cheaper defender then upgrade Krul and Gohouri but Id really like some City coverage in defence. On a side note - Joe Hart worth the money? Ive always been one for cheapo keepers but he might have some value given City's run of fixture and his save ratio.

            Hart 6.6,Kolarov 5.7

            Dont see Hart getting too many save points/BPs

            Kolarov could get a goal once a while....
            So really don't see why you would want some one for 1m more

          Am almost certain Fab and Caroll would start.

          Kolarov might be a doubt for this week,but If you plan on having him Long term,thats a good team

            I can always replace Koralov with Boateng in that team, just see more value long term in Koralov
