When compared to the vast majority of sides that have previously been promoted from the Championship, Blackpool’s impact in the Premier League has been a real breath of fresh air. Pre-season, most talk was centred around Ian Holloway and how -somewhat patronisingly- the Seasiders’ boss would bring a “bit of character” to the top division, but the first seven gameweeks have seen his team’s on-pitch performances grab the headlines instead.

Central to the team’s success has been the club’s playmaker Charlie Adam. The ex-Rangers man currently sits on 38pts in the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) game, the third-highest scoring midfielder in the game so far, behind only Florent Malouda and Nani. A breakdown of his points shows Adam has scored 2 goals, made 2 assists and has 9 Bonus Points, being awarded the maximum 3 on 3 occasions, including the club’s last game, the 2-1 win at Anfield, where he bagged a penalty. In terms of midfielders, only Mikel Arteta can match this as a Bonus “darling”.

A look at our OPTA Stats, showing Adam’s involvement in the games, may explain why this is. Only three players have saw more of the ball; his 616 “Touches” is more than the likes of Arteta and Steven Gerrard and just five behind Paul Scholes. His 15 “Shots at Goal” have him in the top ten midfielders, and defensive-wise, he’s also in the top ten midfielders for “Duels”, “Aerial Duels”, “Loose Ball Recoveries” and “Blocks”. Added to the fact he’s on set-pieces and penalties, and it becomes clearer to see exactly not just how influential Adam is for Blackpool, but, perhaps, how eye-catching he may be to the Bonus Point judges.

With most people expecting Graham Dorrans to be the main Fantasy option from the promoted sides, thanks to Holloway’s attacking ethos, Adam has subsequently out-shone his fellow Scot by some margin already. Blackpool’s approach to games has meant that, despite playing five of their first seven matches away from home, they tend to get amongst the goals, with only Chelsea and Arsenal keeping clean sheets against Holloway’s men so far.

Adam comes in at just £5.2m and is owned by 9% of FPL managers so far. Such a low price means that, in terms of “Value“, he is joint-top, with West Brom’s Peter Odemwingie. Blackpool now have four of their seven fixtures at home (MCY, bir, WBA, EVE, avl, whm, WOL) though judging by their displays so far, it almost seems an irrelevance as to what ground their fixtures are played on. The one constant that does flow through them, however, is the Fantasy potential of Charlie Adam.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

Then don't do Elmo until GW14, and get another cheapie. Then think long and hard about Arteta and Bent. You've got too much tied up in Cole to let go, unless he gets injured ...

                How about Huth to Jara....?

You could play Baines/Cole/Elmo pretty much every week anyway. 2 4 millions might back this up nicely and Jara/Simpson would rotate well.

Other than that, very nice team, loving the midfield... there will be one week where your midfield alone gets you 60 points.

have to go baines over Jara, i want as much attack in defense as possible. I think its Huth to Coleman lads, see how that pans out. Might keep jara alright.

Ill see by Friday. I think im set on that team though barring that spot. Odem might be injured, but hell be back in 2 weeks.

really happy i can get baines in. and ill oly be playing 2 up front most weeks anyway so the defence will rotate well (everton and sunderland nicely rotate, and coleman might be worth having for this week alone with livepool short at left back)

I know you have and I think it's unnecessarily greedy. Surely it's better to have slightly more expensive defenders, (from better defences), that you can just let sit there in your 15, and rotate them, so that your transfers are reserved for your mids and forwards, as opposed to having a cheap defence that get 1's and 0's instead of 2's and 6's.

Lots of 1's and 0's adds up and you lose quite a lot of points over a season compared to defenders that get a fair amount of 6's and 2's. It's debatable whether all that extra cash that is saved can get you a better midfield and front line, as you don't keep these static and use transfers to keep it in line with fixtures anyway, (or at least that's what I do).

In three of his seven games, Adam has scored two 2 pointers and nothing of them, I wouldn't call that consistency, in 4 games, Van Der Vaart has scored 2 two pointers.

That's very identical records, I know Adam's cheper and all that but if one has consistency then surely the other has too.

What, so it's an illusion that he hasn't scored more points on the road than at home then?

As a team Blackpool haven't won a home game yet, so the data set so far would tend to disagree with the scouts assessment at this stage of the season.

Their aversion to home cooking is likely to continue this weekend too, as you'd imagine that Man City will be too strong for them.

Exactly, for all we know, maybe Blackpool only perform when the odds are seriously against them, whereas at home in easier fixtures such as Fulham and Blackburn, (both winnable as both opponents suck away from home), they drew 2-2, and lost 2-1 with an Adam own goal.

Yeah, every season there's usually one team that is just horrendous at home and invincible on the road.

Maybe this year that team will be Blackpool? Who knows?

You do realise that Blackpool have only played two games out of seven at home so far?

How they can be classed as better on the road is beyond me as they've not played at home enough to sensibly judge.

Chamakh or Crouch, and preferably both, out would be a good place to start.

You can have Carroll and Berbatov or Tevez instead. All 3 likely to score you more points than the two you have at the moment.

Good evening FFS faithful! After making two early transfers in the international break I went into hiding hoping not to jinx the players I brought in resulting in an injury, but it looks like I'm lucky to come out unscathed this time! *finally breathes*

Squad for the upcoming week having already made the two said transfers (Gerrard → Nani & Bale → VDV for 4 point hit):

    Hahnemann
    Shawcross - Enrique - Konchesky
    VDV - Nani (C) - Malouda - Dempsey
    Drogba - Carrol - Berbatov

Bench: Foster - Y. Toure - Jara - Alex (rumors he may start? if so he'd replace Konchesky)

Pretty much I think I'm looking at two options. If both Alex/Konch are out I'll be forced to bring in a defender OR play Jara. I'm also contemplating bringing in Fab for Malouda and possibly captaining him. Had planned on waiting until GW 10 to fit him in but weary of Malouda's returns over the next 2 weeks.

Surely if there's any one player who Malouda COULD be switched for would it would be Fab no? If you had to pick one of them? Fitting both of them would require another WC or like a 12-16 point hit at the least sadly

anyone think downgrading cole to alex to free up cash to bring in nani for ethers is a bad idea long term? i can’t seem to get nani in this week unless i bring him in for arteta w/a hit and i dont’ think it’s worth it to do that.

I know how it feels to get neglected on here *tear*

But more seriously, I think it could work in your favor tbh. I'd love to have Cole but don't think he's worth the extra 1.5 over Alex when you can spend it elsewhere. Both are capable of offensive returns (obviously Cole may get a few more assists) but getting in Nani for Ethers makes the move well worth it. As long as Valencia is out Nani is an essential player imo.

true, but i can see him changing that this season as he's evolving into more of a go-to player and he can pick up bps. it's a tough decision though because i think ethers is one of the most consistent performers and best value players in the game along w/the newly promoted adam, so it makes it hard to get rid of him.

Well it seems at the moment if he's not scoring the goals he's setting them up. He's on set pieces and corners and almost the entire United build-up is funneled through that right side. May not score a bunch but definitely will assist a crap load!

i know this can be turned around...but if alex doesnt get that amazing free kickm cole would be about 13 points ahead of him.

also, if cole doesnt hit the post three times this season, and gets ONE of them, he's 21 points ahead so far.

Also, if COlE gets that goal that was incoorrectly disallowed the last week, then he's 27 points ahead of him, PLUS possible bonus.

I'd say that's woth the extra money wouldnt you? BAD BAD BAD advice there Empiriakal, you're talking shite pal, sorry.

Agree with RBJ. If I had the money I'd be upgrading Alex to Cole.

Fixtures be damned, Cole will score on a par with mids more expensive than he is, and his place in the starting lineup won't be under threat when all the other injured defenders return.

I have Dempsey now and will be looking to bring in Arteta for him around GW 10 so I'd say keep Dempsey in the meantime as he's playing OOP. Dembele is on his way back so that may hamper Dempsey's returns so that would be a great time to bring in the slick Spaniard.

I'd wait until he's started a game or two before bringing him in but he's been on my radar since the move. Came on as a sub late one game and got an assist but got injured shortly after. Definitely a bargain if he does start to see playing time though.

still on my watchlist, just wait patiently to see if he sees regular mins. SAF has stated that he may bring him back during the winter transfer window to help fill the midfield. w/anderson reportedly having fallen out w/SAF and stated he'd like to return to porto, then i can see a lot of truth behind this.

ha, just go w/whichever one you think will see more of the ball so you at least get saves. keepers don't really make or break a team anyways.

King Eric - apologies - I had a lovely 'phone call from my son - you must keep Cole until he's injured/transferred/pact with the devil, or else you will lose the valued stored therein.
So, Bale to Nani and Konchesky to Crainey ...

    J. Cole to Fabs for a 4ph? Either that or play Ethers away at Bolton, which to be far isn't a bad shout. Just seems a good excuse to get Fabs in now, that's all.

      Sell Joe Cole asap.

He's a terrible buy. No fantasy potential, and now in a bum team.

Who would you lads rather have for the mid-term:

Bale and Etherington OR Van de Vaart and Adam???

    Thanks in advance.

that's a tough one, but i'd say VDV/Adam as I have them both, but also have Ethers for now too.
