Arsene Wenger has all but ruled out Cesc Fabregas for Saturday’s Emirates clash with Birmingham.

In his usual Thursday afternoon update Wenger stated that match fitness was a concern with his skipper stating…

“Cesc is very, very short and unlikely to be involved [on Saturday]. He has a little chance for Tuesday.”

The news will come as a major blow to Fantasy Managers who will have preparing their squads for the return of the Gunners playmaker ahead of Gameweek 7. Fabregas is currently riding high in our Captain poll with 24% of the vote.

Given that Fabregas will now likely make a Premier League return against City at Eastlands in Gameweek 9, it now looks as though we will be afforded a couple of weeks of breathing space to muster the funds required to bring in the inspirational Spaniard. That will be little consolation to those who have already made the move, or played their wildcards this week to manufacture the transfer.

Samir Nasri – in strong form and possibly deployed up in support of the lone striker, now looks a lot good prospect against Birmingham. Crucially Nasri started on the bench in Tuesday’s Euro Qualifier with Luxembourg, only appearing on 63 minutes.

In other news from the Emirates, Wenger confirmed that Nicklas Bendtner will make a return to the squad – a development that immediately puts Marouane Chamakh under threat as a Fantasy prospect. Bendtner is likely to start life on the bench against Birmingham but clearly will be a factor from this point on. Wenger had this to say on Bendtner’s return…

“Apart from the fact he went to the World Cup we have not seen the real Nicklas Bendtner for a long, long time. He is the closest he has been to his best for a while. He was really, really handicapped by groin problems but they have gone now.”

Theo Walcott could also figure; he is set to be assessed following Friday’s training session. Kieran Gibbs is available and could start with Gael Clichy rested with Tuesday’s Champions League tie in mind.
Thomas Vermaelen and Bacary Sagna remained sidelined and Wenger has cast doubt on their return against City…

“Sagna is ten days, Vermaelen is ten days”

Manuel Almunia will likely be in contention for the City game while Robin Van Persie remains “a bit longer” away from a return. We’re all too familiar with that particular prognosis when it comes to Van Persie.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Fab will not play till the ManC game..he's fit but Wenger will want him @ his best & wont risk him getting injured.
They play Bham & Wenger probably believes Nasri & Wilshire can do the job...

For the next few GW's (let's say 5) who is the best 4.9m defender OR LESS to buy in?

People on my watchlist for this are:
    Coleman
    Z.Knight
    Upson
    Bassong
    J.Enrique

Any missing worth a look at, and if not which is best for next few GW's.

Yep. I have same budget. Crainey is ok, but I'm sure there's better. Looking at fixtures for next 5 games let's say Upson has very good fixtures (for West Ham). Bassong is very tempting but haven't a clue if he will continue to start.

you have link to that RBJ? I argued at the start of the season that from the OPTA stats, Cole and Evra were just as good as any other winger, when it came to crosses delivered and passes in the opposition half. Evra is being rested this season though, which is a bit of a bummer at that price, he was barely rested for a game last season, how is WC shaping up?

shapiing up very strangely with no fabs and malouda, but i like the look of it.

Evra hasnt been rested this seasaon in the Prem bar last week, he must have been a bit injured, or he would have played, or else it was cos he was playing for france?

Cant save it, just go to fuardian chalkboards (google it, then hit create chalkboard. its easy. Amazing stats on him man, he's pretty much playing up front on the left for alot of the game during home games

he will become more influential on the left aswell with Giggs OUT and Nani on the right, maybe RBJ, but I am still a little sceptical, you could have Vidic for .2 cheaper and he is going to grab a goal or two at some stage

Anyone considering keeping Gerrard now if their plan was Gerrard ---> Fabs?

My main reason for this is it's less transfers needing to be used in GW10 to get Fabs in. Otherwise I could go down and get a cheaper midfielder but I'd have to make a couple of double transfers in a few weeks.

I think he'll play. He said he was fit 2 weeks ago and has had ample training opportunity. The prof says he's lacking match fitness, well that is stating the obvious. The other obvious thing is how to get match fitness.

You going to take the risk? Or did you already buy him?

Mwah ha ha ha ha ha ha ah ah hah haaaah!!

The bandwagoning on Fabs on this site is hilarious, how many times already have people screwed around wityh their teams and taken points hits to get him in only for him not to play?

Stay away, he's not mentally at Arsenal anymore and will spend half the season on the sidelines resting so he is fresh for his first season at Barca.

Is easy to say now.....however I said it about a month ago. He won't get anywhere near his points total for last season. Probably put in a four or five game spurt where he will make good captain material at but will disappear again after that again. Not a keeper.

Don't agree with that Barca talk. When he's played he's looked brilliant this season.
