Since joining the club for £8.2m back in June 2008, Johan Elmander’s career at Bolton can hardly be described as a success. Five goals in his first season followed by just three goals last season had many doubting the club’s record signing’s ability to settle in the Premier League.

With Kevin Davies guaranteed a starting slot, Elmander’s first-team time diminished last season, as he vied with Ivan Klasnic for the sole remaining place up-front. Starting just 15 games, he managed the full 90 minutes on only 4 occasions, despite the club replacing Gary Megson with the less-negative Owen Coyle. His Fantasy Premier League (FPL) starting price this season, £5.5m, was a fair reflection of his impact to date, but the big Swede’s showing in the opening seven gameweeks have made something of a mockery of that price.

Elmander looks like a permanent fixture in the Bolton side this season, starting every league game to date, and his points total of 42 is the seventh-highest in the game so far. He’s scored 4 goals, made 2 assists and has been awarded 8 Bonus Points already. The most impressive aspect of these Bonus Points is he’s yet to be awarded all 3 in one game, accumulating his total over five of the seven games, a feat matched only by Didier Drogba and Dimitar Berbatov.

A look at the Members OPTA stats possibly offers an explanation as to why the Bonus judges look favourably upon his performances. Elmander is amongst the top ten for forwards in terms of “Shots” and “Shots on Target”. He sees plenty of the ball too, again amongst the top ten forwards for “Touches” and “Passes Made”. There’s no doubt he also puts in a shift defensively; he’s in the top ten forwards for “Duels“, “Aerial Duels“, “Clearances” and “Blocks“, and is top for “Tackles“, “Interceptions” and “Recoveries“. Add that to his four goals and the effect a regular starting place is having on his importance to the Bolton cause is obvious. A little faith in his ability by Owen Coyle has resulted in Elmander’s elevation to Bolton’s key player so far this season.

Elmander’s price has crept up to £5.8m as a result of his displays, and with Bolton now looking at three home games in the next four (and four in the next seven) more investment should be expected. This run of fixtures reads (STK, wig, LIV, TOT, eve, wol, NEW) and given that Elmander scored 6 points against both Arsenal and Man Utd already this season, there should be little, if no, trepidation about fielding him in matches against the “tougher” teams.

Somewhat bizarrely, Elmander has failed to find the net at home so far this season, yet has scored in every one of the Trotters’ away games. Given the form he brings into this upcoming kind run though, there’s every chance he’s about to put that Reebok drought to an end.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

I reckon Rooney could be a good gamble this week! Gotta shake off this form sooner or later, that said i won't be indulging.

Any news on when RVP will be fit again? Probably not gonna bother with Fabs until i wildcard so RVP would be nice for some arsenal coverage, or maybe even Walcott if he comes back strong.

Are there any Spurs fans on here at the mo? I've looked at their website and nothing on there re their injured defense. Are Dawson and Gallas fit? Is Hutton more likely to play or Corluka? If anyone could give some insight please.....

Dawson is still gonna be out, not sure on gallas, who do you want from their defense? hutton?

i think they're being too cavalier at present to warrant buying a player to try and get you cleanies

They're all marked as "expected back in Oct". For a topspot team defenders like Dawson, Kaboul, Gallas & Hutton are all undervalued when compared to AVilla, Arsenal etc and yes I am looking to bring one in. If only I knew who are playing...

Hey folks... How is this for a potential final WC team?

    Foster/Robinson
    O'Shea/Shawcross/Samba/Elmohamady/Jara
    VDV/Maloda/N'Zogbia/Adam/Fabregas
    Drogba/Bent(if fit)/Carroll

      robinson>krul (good rotation)

shawcross 3 away in 4? hmmm. season keeper? probably

samba, for his attack threat yes, clean sheet potential, no, not until they actually keep a clean sheet after gameweek 1

Some ppl think O'Shea is a risk but i don't think so, in the past ferguson has stuck with a RB all season before with good results, it was Wes Brown last time. stick with O'Shea imo

Elmander will score more than carroll I think now, but that's anybody's guess really. I had him for 5m and sold him for 5.3 to stick tevez in at 10.4

How does this final WC team look?:

      Foster,Mignolet,
      Samba,O'Shea,Konchesky,Foley,Jara,
      Nani,Malouda,Fabregas,Barton,Ferguson,
      Drogba,Tevez,Odemwingie.

I brought VdV,Elmo and Alex in the team during the break and they have made me profit.Should I keep them or does the above team look good? Also, will Mignolet be first choice for the whole season or should I replace him with either Al-Habsi or Krul?

First RMT of the season so be nice. Currently on 429 after a couple of bad captain choices (yes YOU Torres!). Any suggestions?

        Robinson/Foster
        Alcaraz/Elmo/Salcido/Dann/Koncheskey
        Bale/Nani/Adam/Malouda/Barton
        Drogba/Elmander/Tevez

Used my free already but thinking of waiting until GW10 for Fabs and also swap Malouda for Arteta. By that time Bosingwa should also be ready to go to give me double Chelski and same with Kolarov. Konchesky is and Alcaraz going.

Unfortunately nobody is too big to fail in this day and age. The name and history can only count for so much.

I saw Peston summating things earlier, he seems to be very much in the know with that case so we shall have to wait and see.

I was more thinking about their international appeal and potential mass commercial revenue streams... (it's why I'm not so worried about united's situation, as even with the debt we still have a huge amount of working profitability)

Who would you select to fill the missing gaps?

        Foster {KEEPER}
        Dann Alcaraz Mummy {DEF} {DEF}
        {MID} Fabs Malouda Nani VDV
        Carroll Drogba Berbatov

The tricky decision is, if I select Adam then I can could even go for Krul and Simpson in defence. If I have Barton in midfield then it's a choice between Krul and Simpson.

Keeper is currently between Krul/Al Habsi/Gilk
        Defence is currently between Simpson/Coleman/Jara
        Midfield is currently between Barton/Adam

Having a look at some of the paddy power bets for the weekend to spend what's left of my FFS cup II winnings on. I've got a Matador Records box set I've got my eye on and looks like Charlie Adam as first scorer 10-1 could be the way to getting it.

Lots of potential of draws as well with ok odds.

        Here's my current team:

        hahnemann
        terry/knight/jagielka
        malouda/gerrard/petrov/bale
        elmander/drogba/carroll

        konchesky/dorrans/jara/foster

        with 2.1 million in bank.

I'm expecting konchesky or dorrans to come in as auto sub for jagielka. Have I set out my teams and subs correctly?

Should I use my free transfer:

        a) gerrard out nani in (captain)
        b) jagielka/terry/konchesky out toure in
        c) gerrard out fabregas in (captain)

Thanks in advance for any advice on team set up or transfers, hope everyone has a high scoring week

            Neither a or b
Konch's fitness is unknown, kolarov is injured, coleman is a slight risk of being rotated and jara is at man utd this week.

Elmander, berbs are both good choices tho'.

Kolarov is out until end of October, so Boateng and Elmander, wouldn't go near Konchesky now despite his price, Liverpool are all over the shop in every respect at the moment, if you have him, keep him I suppose, but I would not want Pool players until we know what's happening at Anfield!

Elmander is in on my WC now, so of that lot Elmander/Berbatov and Jara would get my vote, but I know that isn't the question, just don't like Coleman due to rotation threat, and Konchesky and Kolarov for the reasons above

next 4? Coleman could be gone after 2, I would love him in my team, just too uncertain with Pienaar due back. Elmo doesn't have great fixtures either, despite his OOP status imo

Elmo's fixtures bar say Top 4 away are irrelevant for me.

He is basically allowing you to play 2 4 3 if you want to and with the added bonus of a cleansheet.

He also happens to be one of the best wingers around currently irrespective of fpl which gives him a decent chance of more bonus points.

4.7 mil is so cheap for him too.

True, but as long as you have a worthy replacement option on the bench, it's no biggy if they are rested.

I'm calling O'Shea to start in the prem this w.end, Rafael in the CL against the whipping boys.

        Elmo/Simpson/Cahill/Jara/O'Shea
        Nani/Arteta/Clevereley/Adam/Fabregas
        Elmander/Rooney/Drogba

.6 in the bank to upgrade somewhere.

Rooney can be changed to Tevez, I just have a feeling for him this weekend with all this nonsense in the papers, and why not at home to West Brom to finally put in "that" performance.

not feeling it with cahill andcleverley, i'm quite aware of cleverley's potential after what he did at watford yet i feel he'll hav a hard time displacing one of their midfielders for some time yet. cahill...well he could score 6 this season yet samba is like some kind of emergency striker so he'd get the nod there.

i've previously commented with you on rooney, good luck man!

There's definately a six letter typo in there between Elmander and Drogba. I do suspect that you need another big defender to go with O'shae, so would add a ManC guy instead of Cahill, but it depends on how everyone rotates.

Could pay of nicely. Id rather Jagielka over Cahill but you probably needed a definite starter this week ya.

Cheers, ya I have and I am happy with it, Elmo will play most weeks, as will O'Shea, I had Boateng in there instead of Cahill but with this flu nonsense he has become a doubt and I like Bolton's fixtures.

hard to say until ancelotti stats rotating ferreria/ivanovic/bos around. for me, a.cole/ivanovic/terry/bosingwa is they're best back four, chelsea are hardly missing bosingwa's attack talent at the moment though.

ok got my WC almost sorted... 1 problem.

For this GW who would you drop from:

        Adam Malouda Nani Fabregas VDV
        Carroll Berbatov Drogba?

That's the trouble with having 8 quality players in Mid-Att.

Adam does seem the obvious choice being away to a very tight Man City.

I think it's going to be a problem for the next 3 weeks... as it'll surely be between Carroll and Adam... Carroll has 5 nice fixtures in the next 6 games, so it could be frustrating when Adam gets his Bonus Points.

adam on free kicks, penalties, i think 'olly will relish trying to take the game to citeh, the richest club in the world. he'll have his players psyched, he's a genius

more like blackpool vs newcastle to score, and compare that to something like "goal involvement". then see that carroll and adam are a 50/50 bet. cue coin flip

no, just might add that one in to my thinking from now, i usually go on form rather than team by team probability.

some ppl who say blackpool are certainties to go down are nuts. it's by no way definite at this stage!

I know lots have done mal ---> fabs or gerrard to fabs ---->

I have gerrard, is gerrard to Fabs worth a 4 point hit? I want fabs but liverpool have better fixture next week aswell so could be worth waiting?

        WHat do we think?

i think he easily justifies a 4 point hit. i may be biased because of last year, but the man is a fantasy god, and i will fantasy worship him, i just sacrificed the cow yesterday so the 4 point hit is the least of my worries!

        hey guys and dolls.

hope were all excited about the biggest week in football on the horizon! Hargreaves return of course!!

My plan for this week was to do
        n zogbia -> Adam
        Gerrard -> Fabregas
BUT one issue is that, looking at my team, i think i will have to play both and would think it is better to play nzog against newcastle (although away) over adam (at home) to blacpool.

So should i leave the nzog move for a week and maybe go for konchesky to simpson/coleman who if they didnt play, wouldnt really affect me that much?

too much tinkering for my liking,

im bringing in fab and leaving him there till his next injury

Dont see the need for either of us to do that move personally, if chelsea run riot you have malouda and drogba, your sorted, so wh not keep fabs and cover your ass. Its not all about fixtures but maybe fabs second game back hel be hungrier fresher and with something to prove!

maloudas out for fabs this week

lampard has a very good record against wolves (i think) and id captain him whereas fabs has mcity away

barring injuries next week ill be taking a gamble on that
