Another week, another notch on the ticker passes by. That means that it’s time to consult the updated version in our sidebar and locate those potentially profitable streaks, with the fixture computer appearing to smile on some of the Premier League’s “lesser lights” right now…

The Highs…

West Brom
Roberto Di Matteo’s side have been somewhat of a revelation, peaking of late with results at the Emirates and Old Trafford; they’ve also managed to keep an unbeaten home record. All of this without the performances last year’s player of the season Graham Dorrans can provide. With three reasonable home fixtures in the next six (FUL, MCY, STK) and three away trips which should spawn a few goals (blp, whm, wig), investment in their attacking players looks a very decent option. Indeed, City at home and Everton away are their toughest looking games in the next eight Gamweeks. The unassuming Chris Brunt has been picking up points consistently at only 5.4, James Morrison is even cheaper at 4.5 and Peter Odemwingie shouts out at only 5.2 up front. The latest on him is that he’s still struggling for the Fulham clash this weekend, so keep your ear to the ground on eyes on our team news and tweets for the latest before considering that move further.

West Ham
Slowly, slowly catchy monkey. Bottom of the table they may very well be, but West Ham are an improving side and have the fixtures to come in the next few weeks to go on building. Their next five Gameweeks hand them home ties against all three of this season’s promoted sides, as well as a trip to Birmingham (so-so, sure) and one to Arsenal (not one for the defenders, certainly). Scott Parker (5.4) is always the key figure in midfield, although Mark Noble’s (5.4) spot-kicks are getting him noticed. Investment in the bargain strike-force of Victor Obinna (5.5) and Frederic Piquionne (5.1) is perhaps more likely, while Da Costa (4.8) is a growing presence at the back and that’s beginning to interest the FPL Bonus judges.

Blackpool
Unfortunate in their defeat to Man City on Sunday, “plucky little Blackpool” are close to shedding that patronising label as they continue to put in displays of no-fear flowing football. We stressed it last week and we will emphasise it again – after a bout of away games, they’ve now got the fixtures on their side and are offering Fantasy Managers with decent potential in the budget bracket. Their attacking assets remain tempting, with Charlie Adam (currently in the Fantasy Premier League dream team), DJ Campbell and Luke Varney (both 4.5) all an ever-present danger to the opposition.

Also to consider: Bolton, Newcastle, Man United and, if you really need to gamble, Liverpool.

The Lows…

Sunderland
The Black Cats seem to have been stuck in a spell of testing opposition since day one. Not a week goes by without Steve Bruce’s side being flagged up in the worst possible way in our β€œfrisking”. Away games at Newcastle, Tottenham and Chelsea continue to offer little encouragement for investment however, and while Darren Bent and Elmohammady seem to offers potential returns regardless of opposition, there’s little doubt that they’re getting little assistance from the fixture list. Form at the Stadium of Light is solid, but away from home things are pretty much disastrous. Three draws and a defeat this season fail to mask the fact that they’ve won just 2 of their last 33 away games – a staggering stat and one that will hardly fill Fanatsy Managers with confidence given their forthcoming schedule.

Blackburn
Last night’s 0-0 draw with the Black Cats signalled the start of a run of games that will test Blackburn’s progress and could have Fantasy Managers shedding any of their remaining assets. The spell starts with a trip to Anfield – a good time to pay a visit perhaps but even so, it’s hardly a potential Fantasy payday at either end of the field. This is followed by away games at Newcastle and Spurs and home encounters with Chelsea and Villa. It’s tough to spot a clean sheet in that run of five, which means that owners of Chris Samba and Phil Jones will have to keep fingers and limbs crossed for attacking returns; not a great scenario.

Wolves
Horrible, just horrible. That’s a pretty kind way of describing the four fixtures about to wheel their way into Wolves’ line of sight this week. Given the form that Mick McCarthy’s men have shown against the “weaker” opposition, Wolves could well be about to sink further into the mire. It all starts with a trip to Stamford Bridge this weekend, before both Man City and Arsenal pop down to Molineux. With an Old Trafford trip to follow that, Wolves have basically got to play this season’s likely “big four”, including arguably the two toughest fixtures of the season. McCarthy is putting a brave Yorkshire face on the situation, but the HMS Wolverhampton is a sinking ship under fire right now.

Also be wary of: Stoke

An interesting sub-plot to this Rooney story is the money Everton will get from any sale... I've heard 20, 25 and 30% mentioned by different people. If any of these figures are right, Moyes must be p*ssing himself with excitement!

Yes for me, Petrov got taken off at 64 minutes the last day and replaced with Matty Taylor and Mark in his scribbles I think reckons that Taylor could be in line for some starts, possibly at the expense of Petrov, take that how you will, Mark does love Matty Taylor!

I would swap for Adam and use cash to upgrade Bale to VDV in time

Utd are going to have to go through a very tough next few years of transition. they need to bleed new players through, this is the end of Rooney, Giggs, Scholes, Neville and there are alot of average players not up to the cut.

Next 5 years will be tough. But they will come back from it.

Lets hope they can spend the cash.

      £80m for Ronaldo, wheres that?

Get £70 for this judas, and bring in Sneijder, Benezma, plus others and rebuild.

SAF seems geniunely gutted, and stabbed in the back giving his personally support to Rooney over the years, I for one cant blame him feeling very let down...

Be lucky to get that for him now even though, last season we would easily of got 70m/80m but could be lucky to get 50/60m now.

God knows where the 80m for Ronaldo went, not invested back into the team anyway, Need new players, Sneijder, Benezma and a new winger.

Ferguson should say "If he wants to go then fine he can play in the reserves until January, happy days show me the money Man City and Rooney can see how he likes it in City. I will replace Rooney with a player that will give it all on the pitch and off the pitch for Man Utd." Job Done - no point getting tears in his eyes over it as it is the best thing for ManU to sell Rooney he has been over rated for some time.

I can't see Rooney moving to another premier league club, not that City wouldn't offer and utd probally would sell if the money was right but i think Rooney will want a complete new start and will want to get away from england. He's going to go to spain imo, Real or Barca.

Rooney hasn't been over rated for some time for god sake, have you ever gone and watched a game with him playing? He's the kind of player you need to see in personto fully appreciate. I've seen him a number of times, and he can be absolutely unstoppable, more often than not. He is in absolutely horrendous form right now, and quite obviously it's off the pitch issues causing it. Sooner or later, of course he'll hit his best form of the past... he's 24 for crying out loud.

As a Utd fan, I'm not going to gloss this over with "no player is bigger than the club" cr*p. I'll be gutted if Rooney goes, and I fear for the future if we sell him and don't buy equal quality.

SAF has done a bilion times more for united then rooney ever will

        rooney is not irreplaceable
united are not lacking up front but are lacking in midfield
and even if his form does return he doesnt deserve to play for united after his behaviour full stop

Rooney is like the Emporer with no clothes because the edia says he is England's best and a genius everyone believes it. Rooney is not the best I'd rather have Varney than Rooney. Cash in and buy a player that does not smoke and that has some class. Rooney has no class on the field and no class off the field - do not look up to such people.

your team is fine, stop taking hits. Look at upgrading one of your defenders for a Chelsea or City player. I'm not that keen on Davies, Barton or Elmander but these can be transferred over time. Pick 3 best def for the GW fixture wise and go with a 3-4-3 or 3-5-2.

do nothing this week then you have 2 for the following week. The only time it may be right to take a hit is if you can not get a side of 11 out i.e. all your subs are injured/suspended/rested

I have to say Jamsiep, I'm starting to agree with you. I didn't believe anything until today, now hearing that he wants away has left a bitter taste in the mouth. Not sure I understand why he wants away and where it has all come from, he had an amazing season last year and you would have thought he would want to continue especially since he said at the start of the year he wanted to be a part of the fabric of the club like Giggs, Scholes, Neville etc.. His whole demeanor over his time at the club has suggested that. Who exactly would he play for anyway? He's not interested in London and his wife's sister is very ill so he really needs to stay in the north west. Would he really go to Citeh and can they even afford his wages since they need to start reducing their wage bill to comply with the new UEFA financial rules & regulations. I'm dumbfounded.

I'd just like to take this opportunity to point out how ridiculous all this Rooney hysteria is. I've always maintained he's an average player that gives the ball away far too much to ever succeed internationally or somewhere like Spain. He had some good flashes last season, (so did Kuyt two seasons back) though a large chunk of his PL goals came against the likes of Hull, Portsmouth and Burnley and from pens. The seasons before that excuses were always made - he wasn't playing in his favourite position (out wide), Ronaldo was taking much of the credit etc etc. If they can offload him for 30-40 million it'll be a blessing for United. RVN leaving was a far bigger blow than this and really, most United fans (non - English) that aren't blinkered from thinking he's the answer to England's woes would admit that United's decline is inevitable, but it'll be due to the likes of their old guard & Ferguson retiring rather than some overrated hairy potato throwing his toys out of the pram.
I realise slagging off Rooney isn't always the most popular thing to do on English forums so i'll get me coat..

All im saying Rooney bar Euro 2004 has never set the world alight for England. Solid but no more.

Turkey isnt the same as playing France Germany Spain Italy etc.

Chelsea team for Spartak: Cech, Ferreira, Ivanovic, Terry, Cole, Essien, Mikel, Zhirkov, Kalou, Anelka, Malouda.

Seems like the concerns about the pitch have disappeared. Cole and Essien not to play?! Pfft...

So Kakuta's gone from being the next great thing, to total trash in the space of two disappointing halves? The kid's got obvious talent, but is lacking confidence... At home to Wolves could be a good game to give him a proper chance to prove himself.

Wolves at home is definitely 'easy'. No such thing as an easy game?! Pfft.

Even you were saying Kakuta isnt good enough yet after the Villa game. Yes hes got talent but so has Vela, you dont see him starting games. West brom beat arsenal and drew to Utd, blackpool gave city a game, Wigan beat Tottenham, there are no easy games. We'll see but you might regret not having Malouda this weekend. Chelsea' squad with the injuries at the moment is not good enough to constantly rotate key players.

Hah, using Wigan, Blackpool and West Brom as examples.... We absolutely battered every single one of them...

Chelsea's squad not good enough? Ermm.. We draw at Villa Park (where we usually lose) without Alex, Bosingwa, Lampard, Drogba, Kalou etc...

I used them as examples becuase everyone expected them to get battered in those games. Chelsea easily have the best starting 11 in the league but the bench is weak in my opinion. Im just saying i dont think he'll risk resting Malouda when your only 2 points ahead of a strong City team, but we'll see..

If Rooney wants to go let him go its simple there are a load of good strikers in the world that are not given a chance. Blackpool can do ok on no budget so ManU should be able to get a few good strikers for the money they get for Rooney. I'd get NZOgbia to replace Scholes and Van der vart if possible and then get the best Ivory coast striker available like Lacina Traore or any of a hundred strikers out there between 19 and 24 of age. Simple to replace Rooney.
