Gareth Bale has just minutes ago sealed a superb Champions League hat-trick against the current holders in the San Siro. In doing so the Welshman added another chunk of millions to his value as his burgeoning reputation grew on the European stage. For Fantasy Managers, most notably the thousands that recently shifted Bale from their squad, the hat-trick in the 4-3 defeat for Spurs offered a chilling reminder of his explosive abilities.

The goals mean nothing of course, not least to the outcome of the match. There will also be no rewards for Bale owners this evening. There’s little doubt however, that those who kept the faith with the Welshman will be feeling rather cozy at the prospect of Bale translating that display on a domestic stage.

Bale’s returns have been disappointing of late; the belated reward of the assist for Tom Huddlestone’s goal was his first points for six matches. With Rafael Van der Vaart flourishing alongside him for just a million or so more, it’s little wonder that we’ve seen significant sales. Almost 100,000 managers have got rid since Gameweek 7; they will be fidgeting rather uncomfortably after tonight’s display.

A testing match-up with Everton beckons at the Lane this weekend and tonight’s showing will surely have removed any threat of Bale being rested or indeed shifted to left-back. Having torn apart one of Europe’s best defences, there’s surely no way we will see Bale at full-back in the immediate future. That’s got to be good news for Fantasy Managers or at least those who have resolved the Bale vs Van der Vaart issue in their heads.

There will doubtless be more on that little puzzle to come on these pages, for now we may have just seen the first FPL bandwagon prompted by a European tie.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Blydi hell, check out my team for this week:

    Foster (Blackpool always score)
    Elmo, Enrique, Jags
Malouda (rested?), Arteta (injured?), Bale (rested?), VDV
Drogba (c) (rusty?), Tevez (rested?), Carroll (in jail?)

Got 35 points written all over it. 🙁

Actually that team is fairly good.

Malouda won't be rested, Tevez won't be rested, Drogba will score, Arteta if he's not injured will play, Bale is fresh from a hat-trick, Foster is a home keeper against Blackpool - high potential for CS.

The only ones that aren't looking too good are Carroll and Jags.

Dunno about Bale's powers of recovery but I'd say he'll do well to be firing on all cylinders Sat early ko...
Which is tricky coz I have him... VdV chomping at the bit...
    Malouda due a rest...

Anyone watch the Spurs game? Sounds a wonderful mixture of awful and wonder, would love to watch the highlights atleast.

On the Bale front I don't think this shows that people who have transfered him out should worry I think it more-so shows how much he fits into the central role when VdV isn't playing. VdV gets injured and Bale turns back into a must, until that time comes I'm happy enough.

Decisions , decisions! Goin with this team for next week

    Foster

    Elmo, O’ shea, Cole

    Malouda, Morrison, Barton, Nani

    Drogs, Tevez, Carroll

Obviously I’m very much depending on Chelsea to hammer Wolves with three of their players in my team. But have I got the other ones right or should one of dann, Nasri and Coleman come in for someone else.

I have gone with a more relaxed style this season.

Don't worry yourselves if your players may not be playing unless you have a source that isn't people on this site. This site is the worst for causing worry.

Malouda, May not play, wait until friday to see if Ancelotti releases his team, if he doesn't then play him. 42% of players are in the same boat to, better to be safe than him get a brace. Bale, is a good player if he plays then good, if not then well, rely on your bench. Drogba, will probably play, same things as Malouda really. Tevez rested?? Why ?? There best player against a good team? City don't care really about anything else other than the league this year, well maybe the FA Cup but still.

    Stop worrying yourselves people!

Cos every little ting, is gunna be alright.

    Lost on previous post...

The whole Bale vs VDV thing is going to be pretty interesting fantasy wise i think.

For me they are two fantastic players playing a good team, but where VDV will occasionally play as a second striker, Bale will occasionally play as a left back.

Anyway, i went with VDV. I think you’d have to be a fool not to expect Bale to have some weeks where he absolutely smashes it, i suppose i’m just betting on the fact that long term VDV will do better – tonight changes nothing in that respect.

He is such a great player to watch in any case, real shame he’s not English!

Also final thought - I find the idea that after tonight Bale won't be playing left back again anytime soon a bit weird. He has been fantastic as an attacking prospect for ages, yet still gets shifted to lb on occasion. Don't get me wrong, Bale was great tonight - but it's not like he showed anything we've not seen from him before?

    VdV: (H) Everton
    Fabs: (A) City
    Yaya Toure: (H) Arsenal
Vaughan: (A) Birmingham (Nailed on for BP’s I think)
    Nani: (A) Stoke

    Dembele: (A) West Brom
    Carroll: (A) West Ham
    Drogs: (H) Wolves
