Gareth Bale has just minutes ago sealed a superb Champions League hat-trick against the current holders in the San Siro. In doing so the Welshman added another chunk of millions to his value as his burgeoning reputation grew on the European stage. For Fantasy Managers, most notably the thousands that recently shifted Bale from their squad, the hat-trick in the 4-3 defeat for Spurs offered a chilling reminder of his explosive abilities.

The goals mean nothing of course, not least to the outcome of the match. There will also be no rewards for Bale owners this evening. There’s little doubt however, that those who kept the faith with the Welshman will be feeling rather cozy at the prospect of Bale translating that display on a domestic stage.

Bale’s returns have been disappointing of late; the belated reward of the assist for Tom Huddlestone’s goal was his first points for six matches. With Rafael Van der Vaart flourishing alongside him for just a million or so more, it’s little wonder that we’ve seen significant sales. Almost 100,000 managers have got rid since Gameweek 7; they will be fidgeting rather uncomfortably after tonight’s display.

A testing match-up with Everton beckons at the Lane this weekend and tonight’s showing will surely have removed any threat of Bale being rested or indeed shifted to left-back. Having torn apart one of Europe’s best defences, there’s surely no way we will see Bale at full-back in the immediate future. That’s got to be good news for Fantasy Managers or at least those who have resolved the Bale vs Van der Vaart issue in their heads.

There will doubtless be more on that little puzzle to come on these pages, for now we may have just seen the first FPL bandwagon prompted by a European tie.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

why? just because he got a hat-trick he will suddenly be rested?

if he hadn't scored he would have played?

your point has no logic whatsoever, sure he was tired but every player is tired after playing with 10 men.

Spurs HAVE to win against Everton, it is not a meaningless league cup game. Why the hell would he rest a player who just scored a hat-trick and who isn't injured. baffling

Perhaps because he's played an offensive amount of football recently and looked visibly knackered at the end of the game tonight, much more so than any other Spurs player because of the amount of running he did.

No one is saying that he'll 100% be rested for the Everton game, like you say it's a pretty tough game, but you can't totally rubbish the possibility.

im not saying he will be rested because he got a hatrick.

im saying it because he has played a hell of a lot of games and looked absolutely wiped out.

Will play most likely, but he does need a rest some time. He's yet to sit a single minute of their season games...Cashley as well. They both looked knackered at games' ends.

if you can afford it and you havent made any transfers this week, I'd do Alex to Cole anyway, depending on who else you have in defence of course. Alex is always a rotation risk, whereas Cole isnt and seems to be a point scoring machine. That said, all depends on whether or not Cole is ok, didnt somebody say he signalled to come off last night?

I've held onto Bale - stunning hat-trick tonight, but clearly VdV's absence was contributory to how much Bale saw of the ball. That is not to take away the quality of the hat-trick.

He looked absolutely shattered at the end of the game and I fear a rest is around the corner, otherwise he'll be burnt out before long before Christmas.

To be honest, I'm still edging towards a transfer in of VdV.

Because Hernandez always seems to cause problems with his pace and movement. I like berbatov as a player but he limits our formation and he can't play upfront by himself as he can't run the channels and do the dirty work.

Famous hattricks we have already been carried away by this season:

    PLAYER NAME.........POINTS SINCE HATTRICK
    Andy Carroll........8, 2, 2, 5, 1, 4
    Theo Walcott........10.....INJURED..
    Dimitar Berbatov....2, 2, 7

Whats that thing they say on pension adverts? "Past performance is no indicator of future performance"
Lets not get too carried away, but fair play the lad played well.

I guess Spurs aren't as free-scoring in the PL as they are in the CL and if they get beat, you could have two players getting low scores. However, they are fairly cheap so not much wrong with it really.

only if you play them both same time? Tottenham have a shit weekend then that's 2 players that don't do well. However, Tottenham have a good weekend and that could be double good points!

Decisions , decisions! Goin with this team for next week

    Foster

    Elmo, O' shea, Cole

    Malouda, Morrison, Barton, Nani

    Drogs, Tevez, Carroll

Obviously I'm very much depending on Chelsea to hammer Wolves with three of their players in my team. But have I got the other ones right or should one of dann, Nasri and Coleman come in for someone else.

Bale is a class player and a hat-trick is a hat-trick, but that game was OVER when he got his last 2 goals .Inter had it won at half-time and they were already strolling around the pitch watching the champions league highlights on their i-phones

Can someone list a breakdown of Bale's Champions League stats, (all games including qualifiers). Number of games, number of goals and number of assists.

I know the figures must be absolutely immense, as he got 4 assists in the second Young Boys match, and got 3 goals today, and he definitely has more goals and assists in the other games, and I was wondering if anyone knows the total stats.

    Thanks. 🙂

    VdV: (H) Everton
    Fabs: (A) City
    Yaya Toure: (H) Arsenal
Vaughan: (A) Birmingham (Nailed on for BP's I think)
    Nani: (A) Stoke

    Dembele: (A) West Brom
    Carroll: (A) West Ham
    Drogs: (H) Wolves

    Thoughts?
