The results for the first round of the Fantasy Football Scout Cup III, sponsored by Paddy Power, are in. As expected, 256 Fantasy Managers are through to the second round, and 256 are not. You can check out each and every result right here. For a brief round-up of some of the key fixtures, read on…

The highest aggregate scoring tie of the round was beeduybe‘s 87 – 76 win over houghmagandie. That fantastic score of 87 cannot be matched by any of the other competitors, and that earns beeduybe a free £25 bet courtesy of sponsors Paddy Power. With a score of 76, houghmagandie has the misfortune of being the highest-scoring Fantasy Manager to be knocked out this round.

With slightly more fortune this week, RishiS had one of the lowest scores of the round but still progressed, as he edged out R2Carroll 39 – 38 in a remarkably low-scoring tie.

The wooden spoon award for the week goes to Fin, who looks like he’s had the worst week of his Fantasy career in his 54 – 24 loss to jamlove. The scars from this heavy loss will take a while to heal, as he plummets from the top 16k to a six-figure ranking.

That massive win for jamlove wasn’t the widest margin of victory in the round however, it was Jenno99‘s 73 – 27 crushing of SiKick, putting a whopping 46 points between them.

There were 14 ties won by a single point, including Mark‘s match against tippman. Going into the Monday night game with a comfortable lead and a player remaining, it was almost unfathomable that Mark would not progress. However with Chris Samba costing him two points on the night, and Kevin Davies being stripped of his assist, Mark, incredibly, ended up losing. Unlucky.

Unable to separate themselves over the weekend, eight Fantasy Managers had their cup fate decided on overall rank. Peter, Pieman, john_crichton and melj79 eliminated Lew, Scratch, garrydoherty84 and ini to xav as a result of their superior ranking.

Our former champions both powered through to round two with convincing wins. FFS Cup I winner donnellyc dispatched billywhizz 69 – 58, and FFS Cup II champion Jonty proved being good is better than being lucky as he thrashed Lucky_2010 61 – 43.

The number of contributors left in the competition has halved to three. Mark (see above), greek fan (chipsngravey 64 – 41) and I’m Not Marshal Foch (Twisted Saltergater 72 – 69) all bit the dust this week, leaving just myself (emperikal 64 – 50), Pure Olivia (acrascall 71 – 67) and Granville (Bob 82 – 54) flying the flag.

Elsewhere, in some of the fixtures I highlighted in the round one draw, Waldaz saw off JamsieP 51 – 44, alang eliminated Dick Fran Dyke 69 – 64 in a competitive fixture, and greghammer95 hammered The Sting 73 – 55.

Two Fantasy Managers that weren’t expecting to be part of the second round were Roger C and TorresMagic, but after their opponents broke team entry rules they have both been given a passage into the next round at their expense.

So congratulations to the 256 fantasy mangers in the hat for round two, and commiserations to those leaving the competition at this stage. The draw for the second round will be made and published on the site tomorrow.

Jeez, Spurs are playing in the early kick-off as well... That's brutal.

What's that stat about Bale? Hasn't he played more football than any other player in Europe this season, or something like... Fit as a fiddle mind.

To clarify, he was 12 at the time...

Thinking about it, it's actually not such a ridiculous idea... I reckon it would be quite fun... Completely mirror the format of the Ryder Cup, and run the tournament over the course of 6 weeks..

Hi – I posted this earlier and got very different views – please let me have any thoughts as I have a really itchy WC finger

Am thinking of playing WC to get this team

    Robinson /Al-Habsi
    Bosingwa/Coleman/Elmohamady/Jara/Simpson
    Fabregas/Van der Vaart/Nani/N’Zogbia/Albrighton
    Drogba/Berbatov/Tevez

My main issue in fact is whether it’s sensible to WC now or hold on (my current team is linked and is not too bad at mo although plenty I’d like to do). If I wait, I suspect I’ll never be able to afford the proposed WC team given price rises etc

    Do you think it’s worth:

    1. doing WC now
    2. holding on to WC

    Also, if WC

    3. Al-Habsi or Mignolet
    4. Bosingwa or Kolarov

you seem to know what you want to do, go with it, you've got to use it soonish. as for who to decide between, make your own choice then if it goes tits up your the one who got it wrong but if it works you can take all the credit. better than being pissed off with someone elses shit decisions. hope this helps.

The whole Bale vs VDV thing is going to be pretty interesting fantasy wise i think.

For me they are two fantastic players playing a good team, but where VDV will occasionally play as a second striker, Bale will occasionally play as a left back.

Anyway, i went with VDV. I think you'd have to be a fool not to expect Bale to have some weeks where he absolutely smashes it, i suppose i'm just betting on the fact that long term VDV will do better - tonight changes nothing in that respect.

He is such a great player to watch in any case, real shame he's not English!

Am i the only one that thinks Fergie has hung Wayne out to dry. Dont get me wrong Rooney has been a pric*k but in the interview Fergie said the door is still open. However with all the things he said it surely leaves Rooney no choice but to leave now.

It makes no sense to me, i dont think he would want to leave, the relationship with the manager has been on the rocks and hes been dropped. Fergie has moved quickly to shove all the blame onto Rooney and make the fans hate him making it near impossible to stay.

fergie always seems to move quickly to remove problem players from his clubs. I agree with the way he deals with these situations. his attitude is that he is the boss and if you dont like it , piss off. staff in any other jobs/profession generally get treated that way. its seems even more necessary when dealing with footballers who think they can do whatever they want, ie beat up women, d/j's tamper with chicks, drink driving. etc etc etc. good on fergie

It was perfect PR by the United machine making Rooney look like the greedy sod. It was such a carefully worded emotionally charged statement that you instantly thought it was totally plausible and that any further statement from Rooney would never have the same impact. Who said the club is run badly.

Agreed but look how Wenger has dealt with the Cesc situation. He knows if Cesc is going or staying at the end of the season but they still have a great relationship and Cesc is still giving his all to the club.

That is exactly what happened with Ronaldo. The transfer with Real was agreed a year in advance, Ronaldo played that year, helped win the league and left on good terms. Not one United fan I know had any problem with him leaving.

No, it's not only you. It's you and City Syd here.

Rooney is a nob, end of story. There's a reason SAF has the SIR in his name. Soon to be joined by Sir Ryan Giggs, a true Utd legend.

I agree he is a knob but there must be more to it then ''Utd arnet matching my ambitions for trophies'' because that is clarly bullshi*t, Utd will always challenge, even a dimwit like Wayne would know that.

Of course there is more to it. As SAF said tonight "he wants ambition? I've won 30 trophies, haven't I?!" It's called buckets of cash. City have offered to double his wages and that's that.

Btw lovely touch tonight: Anderson and Nani both applauded the fans and tapped the badge on their chest as they went off. <3

To be honest with you I'm sick of that kissing the badge nonsense, it means sweet FA. I've become a lot more cynical in the past 24 hours about any loyalty or love for the team they play for. I reckon 9 out of 10 footballers would jump ship for a few dollars more. Assou-Ekotto was clear about it, he doesn't have any allegiance to spurs, he plays for them does the best he can and gets paid for the privilege, there it is in black & white and I have respect for him now. It's the antithesis of the supporter who is fiercely loyal to his team.

I tell you now, everything points to his people having already done the deal with Citeh.
      1) Even Chelsea cannot match the money Citeh can offer
      2) His agent Paul Stretford has close links to the Citeh regime
      3) He has no ambition to go abroad and learn another language
      4) His sister in law is ill so he needs to stay in the northwest
      5) Noel Gallagher hinted at it when he shared a boozy champagne reception laid on by Gary Cooke at a World Cup game in the summer. Listen to the interview he did with Talk Sport. He mentioned Cooke wrote down a list of names of players who were coming and one of them would blow your mind.
