Sitting pretty in sixth place in the Premier League, West Brom have surprised the majority of people with their positive and refreshing approach since the beginning of the season. While it’s been frontman Peter Odemwingie who has gathered most of the headlines, the last few gameweeks have seen Chris Brunt really make his mark for the Baggies.

With most expecting Graeme Dorrans to be the star man in Roberto di Matteo’s midfield at the start of the season, Brunt, initially, did nothing to disprove this theory with a mere six Fantasy Premier League (FPL) points in his first three games, but since then, he has not just been the best points scorers in West Brom’s midfield, but one of the best in the league overall.

Brunt’s last five games read 6,5,6,5,11, which includes him picking up the maximum 3 Bonus Points in each of his last two games. He has bagged 1 goal so far and is second only to Nani in terms of assists, with 5 to his name already. Sitting on 39 pts, Brunt, priced at just £5.5m and owned by only 2% of managers, is sixth overall in the game in terms of “value“.

Pretty much a permanent fixture in the side, he has missed just 13 minutes of the season so far and seems to be the Baggies chief set-piece taker, as well as taking the odd penalty, too. A look at his home and away tallies shows there is no difference to Brunt’s output. He has 18 points at the Hawthorns and 21 points on the road; given that West Brom’s four away games have been at Chelsea, Liverpool, Arsenal and Man United, that’s a considerably impressive haul.

Brunt stacked up a points total of 121 in the 2008/09 campaign that saw his club relegated, but this time round Di Matteo’s tactics and personnel look like giving West Brom a far greater chance of survival, which is illustrated in the fact that with just eight games gone, Brunt has already picked up a third of that total.

With (FUL, blp, MCY, whm, wig, STK) up next for the Baggies, there’s no reason for any prospective Brunt owners to doubt his upcoming potential returns, given that he approaches Gameweek 9 off the back of an 11 point performance at Old Trafford.

There is more panic on here than there was at Manchester United this week. Try not to ask questions that have been answered and try not to ask questions that have no answers. However I can almost bet the next question will be one that was answered a few pages back. lol.

Suppose it's still up in the air until Gabby's back? Nevertheless I feel that Barton is the best ubercheap just now. He may be a w@nker, but he's done quite well this season, and has decent fixtures in the short term.

I kind of want to do Bale -> Adam, then next week Etherington -> Fabregas, Chamakh -> Odemwingie

But ill probably just do Etherington -> Adam this week to avoid any Bale bother. So many of my rivals have him.

I wouldn't be suprised to see Bale rested- even without the quotes from Harry, he did look absolutely knackered by the end of the Inter match. I was planning on keeping him in my team and swapping out Dempsey for Van der Vaart, but I now feel like it might be worth dropping Bale and giving Dempsey a run-out instead.

You know what, I've thought about this all week and can't decide so I'll try it this way. Here is my team for the week.

    Foster
    Konchesky-Dann-Jara
    Malouda-Nani-Bale-NZogbia
    Drogba(C)-Tevez-Carroll

Subs: Jaaskelainen, Nolan, Jose Enrique, Samba
    4.3m in bank

I find it rather strong personally, but over the upcoming weeks I want lots of players, mainly Brunt, Adam and Fabregas.

So first of all, would you suggest I make any transfer, and if so - which? And secondly, I think I have strong bench alternatives and therefore I consider benching Malouda or/and Bale as they might only get a few minutes each in the worst case scenario. Smart or stupid?

    Thanks

    Foster(Myhill)
    Mummy,Konchesky,Jara(foley)(figueroa)

i know theres a 1 or 2 red herrings in there, but i still have my WC

Yeah, I kind of think that. I reckon Elmo needs to relieve Shawx of his place in my team cos I'd play him every week regardless of fixtures.

May ship Bale out this week too for Charlie baby!

Nomaaar. Bosingwa could pay off handsomely - if he has a good game against Wolves he may keep his place too. I'm putting him in this week but I don't have any Chelsea defenders already so it's easier to do

Or the more likely outcome - Alex comes back at CB and Ivanovic reverts back to RB.

Keep his place against Blackburn? Highly doubt that. If Alex is fit for that game then the back four will surely be Ivanovic Alex Terry Cole

Maybe so but Ivanovic is no right back I tells ye, I don't care if he did make the team of the season last year. That's a bit like winning Crufts when you're the only dog to show up.

im the same jack tatum, think bos will push ivanovic out. much more of an attacking threat.

Yeah I'm thinking that IF Bosingwa shows anything like the form he had when he first signed he will give Chelsea a much better balance too, and Alex and Ivanovic will compete for CB duties. I like Ivanovic as a player by the way

good enough when you've no other option as opposed to being the best of 2 when both are available. it changes it a bit SD

Yeah, I want Elmo in my team really badly but don't see who I'd bench over him, probably Dempsey.
