Sitting pretty in sixth place in the Premier League, West Brom have surprised the majority of people with their positive and refreshing approach since the beginning of the season. While it’s been frontman Peter Odemwingie who has gathered most of the headlines, the last few gameweeks have seen Chris Brunt really make his mark for the Baggies.

With most expecting Graeme Dorrans to be the star man in Roberto di Matteo’s midfield at the start of the season, Brunt, initially, did nothing to disprove this theory with a mere six Fantasy Premier League (FPL) points in his first three games, but since then, he has not just been the best points scorers in West Brom’s midfield, but one of the best in the league overall.

Brunt’s last five games read 6,5,6,5,11, which includes him picking up the maximum 3 Bonus Points in each of his last two games. He has bagged 1 goal so far and is second only to Nani in terms of assists, with 5 to his name already. Sitting on 39 pts, Brunt, priced at just £5.5m and owned by only 2% of managers, is sixth overall in the game in terms of “value“.

Pretty much a permanent fixture in the side, he has missed just 13 minutes of the season so far and seems to be the Baggies chief set-piece taker, as well as taking the odd penalty, too. A look at his home and away tallies shows there is no difference to Brunt’s output. He has 18 points at the Hawthorns and 21 points on the road; given that West Brom’s four away games have been at Chelsea, Liverpool, Arsenal and Man United, that’s a considerably impressive haul.

Brunt stacked up a points total of 121 in the 2008/09 campaign that saw his club relegated, but this time round Di Matteo’s tactics and personnel look like giving West Brom a far greater chance of survival, which is illustrated in the fact that with just eight games gone, Brunt has already picked up a third of that total.

With (FUL, blp, MCY, whm, wig, STK) up next for the Baggies, there’s no reason for any prospective Brunt owners to doubt his upcoming potential returns, given that he approaches Gameweek 9 off the back of an 11 point performance at Old Trafford.

He still had a red box on the FPL site until today and people were oncerned.

Because they hadn't been keeping up with the news, admittedly, but they were concerned.

I expected some transfers out as he's expensive but wasn't expecting him to be the highest of all transfers out. Thought there had been some news I had missed.

The problem is that everyone who sells him now helps to lower his price, which in turn helps everyone who sold him last week and now don't have the cash to buy him back.

There is a way I can keep Malouda and Berbatov whilst bringing Fabs in to engineer an attacking 8 of:

    Fabs/Malouda/Nani/VDV/Adam
    Drogba/Berbatov/(Varney)

but this would involve a 12 point hit (ouch!) next week to overcome price rises. Worth it? I was intially thinking Malouda or Berb would need to go but debating siezing the opportunity to keep them. It doesn't maul my team either, would involve:

    Hughes to Simpson
    Toure to Fabregas
    Carroll to Varney
    Alex to Bosingwa

    Opinions welcome

I really can't make up my mind. What's making me lean towards Adam is the fact that my main rival has both N'Zog and Brunt. But the thing is, I've avoided players that he has, such as Nani just to try and make up points. It's failed so far however!

Maybe it's all a cunning ruse. Man U were angry that he could leave on a free transfer in 18mths. Hence by re-signing his value increases and Man U still get rid in the January window BUT they get an extra £10m for him because he's in contract.

The Bos man is coming in but for who is the big question? Struggling to decide as not sure who is going to play at the back for Man City Sunday (is it worth keeping Richards in case he starts CB in Toure’s absence? Any news on Toure?)

    Candidates:

1 Richards (worth 5.6 to me) – my preference
    2 K Toure (6.3)
    3 O’Shea (5.6)

    Thanks

P.S. I’m thinking O’Shea – Coleman next weeek anyway. Other defenders elmo (def in my XI) Foley (def not)

You've got a good amount in the bank so not sure you'd need to ship out two players for a stronger option up front. I'd perhaps just look at replacing Jones only (if you don't fancy him against Utd). Not sure whether Anelka is best choice replacement though but that may just be me. I reckon Bosingwa is unlikely to be thrown in for the whole game unless you've heard differently?

Tevez to Berb should get you that.
nasri to NZog/Brunt should also work, saves you a point hit and Nasri will have less impact when Fabs is back.

Don't think ferreira will be playing much more,
otherwise it looks ok if you have arsenal cover (fabregas)...

Should I leave my team as is? Itchy trigger finger to do something (NZog, Brunt and Fabs are high on wants list but I like current midfield as it is).

    Krul
    CAshley, Elmo, Coleman
    Nani, Malouda, VDV, Nasri, Adam
    Drogba (c), Berb

    Foster, Alcarez, Jara, Varney

i hope that the fact rooney stayed at united means that the board said that they would agree to allow more transfer funds.
dont think it is that way though

Yep. Absolutely no doubt the Glazers have signed a contract promising to spend a certain amount of money over the next year......

.......what it doesn't say is it will be spent paying off their loans.

Gonna take some time for me to think of Rooney as an United lad again. While he wears our shirt though we need to support him - young & stupid

Anyone else taking out Bale as strong suggestions of being rested? Worth bringing in VDV instead despite 2 relatively tough games in next 2 weeks?

    Also will Carroll start?

Is there a good reason why he should be rested, against a resurgent Everton? No, I don't think so

it's about time he gets a rest. nothing to do with that I don't have him just feel he shud get a rest instead of risking an injury.

Only way I'd lose Cashley is if Bosingwa had as much pitch time as he did.

And that isn't likely for a while.

Nearest rival has Adam and cup guy has Adam.

Do i get Adam or Nzogbia?

Is it best to play safe while ahead or go for a different option?
