Sitting pretty in sixth place in the Premier League, West Brom have surprised the majority of people with their positive and refreshing approach since the beginning of the season. While it’s been frontman Peter Odemwingie who has gathered most of the headlines, the last few gameweeks have seen Chris Brunt really make his mark for the Baggies.

With most expecting Graeme Dorrans to be the star man in Roberto di Matteo’s midfield at the start of the season, Brunt, initially, did nothing to disprove this theory with a mere six Fantasy Premier League (FPL) points in his first three games, but since then, he has not just been the best points scorers in West Brom’s midfield, but one of the best in the league overall.

Brunt’s last five games read 6,5,6,5,11, which includes him picking up the maximum 3 Bonus Points in each of his last two games. He has bagged 1 goal so far and is second only to Nani in terms of assists, with 5 to his name already. Sitting on 39 pts, Brunt, priced at just £5.5m and owned by only 2% of managers, is sixth overall in the game in terms of “value“.

Pretty much a permanent fixture in the side, he has missed just 13 minutes of the season so far and seems to be the Baggies chief set-piece taker, as well as taking the odd penalty, too. A look at his home and away tallies shows there is no difference to Brunt’s output. He has 18 points at the Hawthorns and 21 points on the road; given that West Brom’s four away games have been at Chelsea, Liverpool, Arsenal and Man United, that’s a considerably impressive haul.

Brunt stacked up a points total of 121 in the 2008/09 campaign that saw his club relegated, but this time round Di Matteo’s tactics and personnel look like giving West Brom a far greater chance of survival, which is illustrated in the fact that with just eight games gone, Brunt has already picked up a third of that total.

With (FUL, blp, MCY, whm, wig, STK) up next for the Baggies, there’s no reason for any prospective Brunt owners to doubt his upcoming potential returns, given that he approaches Gameweek 9 off the back of an 11 point performance at Old Trafford.

Unfortunately, my caveman minileague don't put in money. Wouldn't have won last year anyway: the winner came 450 or something.

    Foster (Robinson)
    O’Shea • Konchesky • Salcido (Jagielka, Faye)
Albrighton • Malouda • Nani • Bale (Etherington)
    Drogba • Carroll • Berbatov

+ an extra 3.7 million in the bank.

I'm going Adam but only just, mostly because I feel I have missed N'Zogbia's good points hauls (i.e. 24 in 2 games) and can't see him keeping it up.

Plus my other two cheap players are odemwingie and Barton (ill be playing 2 of them most weeks) so Adam fits in slightly better (i.e. when bartons got a tough fixture, adam has an ok fixture).

I think whoever I get will be coming out for Stephen Hunt though

Can you get in Fab next week and get Bosingwa in this week without a hit?

If not it's probably worth waiting. No definites that Bosingwa is going to keep starting. Then again you could say the same about O'Shea. Damn this game, too hard to predict sometimes!

not sure where the team news section got that from as he was too busy ignoring the rooney questions to name his side. lots of people on this site watched the press conference and not one has mentioned he named the side.

But prior to the Press Conference it did say that CFC were only permitted to stream the 'TV' part and not the 'newspaper' part. As soon as the Press Officer said "Let's move onto newspapers ..." it cut off. Maybe he named the line-up in the newspaper bit ..?

i was considering a similar move

(konchesky to bosingwa, shawcross to simpson - 4 point hit)

but have all but talked my self out of it

if bosingwa proves his worth over the next few weeks i may bring him in

Did anyone else see the retraction in a newspaper (can't remember which one, saw it on TV) of the John Terry / Bridge's ex-girlfriend story.

The paper admitted that the story of Terry sh*gging whats-her-name wasn't true (or, more likely, that they could not prove it was true because Terry paid her off in return for her denying it).

Does this mean he gets the England armband back?

But seriously, it's ridiculous the amount of power the papers have in this country. The retraction was on something like page 23, 2 paragraphs long. They splashed the original story all over the front pages for weeks.

OK, Terry can deal with it, but what about some poor guy who gets accused of something on the front page, then the retraction appears a year later buried in the middle of the paper.

There should be a rule that if you print a false story, the retraction should be on the same page, the same size type, as the original allegation.

Jeez, why don't people seem to understand that the Bosingwa transfer is a long term move, it's not the end of the world if he gets a point this week, it's more than Alex will pick up!

He may be a rotation threat, but so are Alex and Ivanovic.

Bos is 0.7M cheaper and the most attacking of the two.

When he's been fit in the past, he's been nailed on.

Ancelotti has been talking him up loads.

Ancelotti has said he is 100% fit.

Bosingwa outscored A Cole in 08/09 and they both played similar minutes, (Bos 2906 mins, A Cole 2940 mins).

Game, set, match Bosingwa, so that is why I have recommended him as a good transfer for long-term, not just GW8.

I hope that is enough reasons.

all valid points had bosingwa not been injured for 12 months. during which ivanovic stepped up and ashley cole was given a much more attacking position than under (forgotten his name, their brazilian manager) and hiddink. and fitness isn't a problem for bosingwa, he's been working on that since august, getting back to his pre-injury playing level is the issue.

It is so common for players to pick up little knocks and strains after they've been out so long. Got to see him string together a few games first and not sure when he's gonna do that as he'll be straight back on the bench for the Blackburn game
