Gameweek Nine saw 256 fantasy managers battle it out in the second round of the Fantasy Football Scout Cup III, sponsored by Paddy Power. Those involved surely know the outcome of their own fixture, so to see how everyone else faired this round click here.

If reading the results James Alexander Gordon-style isn’t for you, then read on for the round highlights. However, before I get onto listing the key outcomes, I have to bring you some tragic news… I am no longer involved in the competition, after a 51 – 40 robbery against JohnSteed01. A minutes silence will be observed before the round three fixtures.

One Fantasy Manager who might be able to get over that news is The Plutocrat who, after his 74 – 40 annihilation of timboeve (the widest margin of victory in the round), earns himself a free £25 bet courtesy of Paddy Power.

Just missing out on the prize was rajmanutd who, along with chipsngravey (in a very northern outing), was involved in the highest scoring tie of the round, as the former prevailed 70 – 59.

At the other end of the spectrum was billyboychrisd‘s 37 – 33 victory over dadoune. Which wasn’t the lowest score jammy enough to win this weekend however, CarlowsGalacticos‘ narrow 36 – 35 ousting of Dino wins that award.

That was one of eleven match-ups decided by a single point, which included greghammer95‘s 53 – 52 win over hello 911 it’s quagmire….

Three fixtures went down to the tie-breaker of overall rank, which saw bossdrum, Chris81 and targa eliminate Clive, Burton and Mattenue respectively.

Contrasting fortunes for our former champions sees donnellyc marching on, thanks to a 40 – 31 victory over ham5ter, and Jonty doing one, as a result of his 55 – 48 loss at the hands of Ann_der_roo.

Granville is now the only contributor to have a berth in the tournament, as he saw off wolves_simmo with ease 50 – 32, with Pure Olivia (46 – 40 Ty_Durden67) and I getting beat.

So now we are down to 128, just 10% of everyone who entered the competition. They will learn of their opponent on Thursday when the third round fixtures (to be played during GW10) will pop up on the site.

Well done to those awaiting that fixture list (not you JohnSteed01), and commiserations to everyone bowing out this time round (some with more grace than others).

I just cannot choose. I have to pick one of Malouda, VDV and Nani to drop, and I've made money on all three.

Need to decide tonight to be honest, to make sure we dont miss a cesc rise.

Nani is staying in my team, initial plan was to get rid of Nasri for Fabregas but he has came on to a game of late so will transfer him out for Arteta at a later date.

only bonus of transferring malouda is the fact i'll still have plenty in bank post transfer

Surely Fabs ain't going to rise. Doesn't the protection reset their NTI back to 0 and remove everything that happened before. His protection only ended yesterday/today depending on where you are in the world so he has to get to NTI 25,000 again NO?

i think the same and yes i'm voting- i'm registered a dem. here it's a battle between the lessor of two evils imo. i never really have been passionate enough about a politician in particular- at the end of the day he/she is still a politician. now if cantona were running, that's a separate issue.

lol- I'd love to see cantona karate kicking his way to the whitehouse- it'd really liven up US politics... 😀

TBH, I'd prefer him to take over from Fergie before he got involved with that though...

i would too, but i think he'd be doomed. as fergie pointed out, it has to be someone w/enough experience at the highest level who knows how to manage all the egos and tough situations- has to be jose and i think he's already setting himself up for it.

yeah, looking at Fergie's very complimentary comments about the jobe Jose's doing at Madrid, I reckon that they've already made a gentleman's arrangement that he'll take over from Fergie.

My thinking is that Mourinho wants to be known as the greatest manager ever, and continuing the work of SAF and successfully managing the world's biggest club would cement that position...

yes exactly and i think he'll force the glazers out hopefully because he loves to spend. he'll make a statement saying something to the effect of he'd love to join United, but due to their financial situation can't seem himself going, causing a riot and their exit making him an instant hero upon his arrival.

already called him leaving inter beginning of last season for madrid to land there for about 3 yrs. or so waiting for SAF to retire.

I'd almost rather he took the portugal job before the united one though, as that would mean he'd prbs be seeing out his career with us...

I heard an interesting report on the BBC that basically said thatour debt is sustainable and that there should be money to buy players, providing the Glazers don't attach their PIK's (which are meant to be their personal debt) to the club- what's your perspective on this, seeing as you're a banker?

For gameweek 6 I did 3 transfers plus a change in captain:

Gerrard (C), Drogba, Konchesky and Arshavin IN

Drogba (C), Fabregas, Lennon and Shawcross OUT

        The top line scored 12 + 2 + 1 + 5 - 8 = 12

The bottom line scored 4 + 0 + 2 + 2 = 8 but Routledge would have played instead of the injured Fabregas, he scored 2 points so basically this is a total of 10 points.

So I made 2 points from the move, not much but you CAN gain if you're lucky. 🙂

Plus even if I'd made a slight loss of say 2 points, at least I got to do three transfers at little cost. If you're fairly sure that one of your players in will score well, and all of the guys you're getting out are garbage, you stand a decent chance of making up at least 6 of the 8 points, while also doing a mini-wild card at the same time! 😀

I benched Carroll over Coleman too :/

Good call playing Dann over Williamson this week imo.

Doubling on Newcastle in a derby match is too risky.

I'm thinking that it's Malouda who I'll be keeping long-term and shifting out Drogba for someone like Tevez, or Rooney when he finds form. Possibly even Torres if he gets his act together.

There aren't many midfielders out there that will score as many goals as Malouda, (mainly because he almost plays up-front and is constantly looking to get in the box for tap-ins). He just needs to sort his assists out and stop being so greedy.

However, there are always going to be other strikers that can do the business and get you goals.

I'm keeping both Drog and Mal till GW13 but then after that I will have to ditch one, and I think it's going to be the Ivorian.

I'll be looking at a long-term midfield of Nani, Fabregas, Malouda and Silva.

can't one of them just get injured and make everyone's decision that much easier? i've been so happy w/fat frank out of action, i might fall into a depression when he returns- althought it may mean that chelsea will start losing once he's back. i think that's why they've been off to such a great start, no fat frank.

Drogba will probably end up as top scorer, but surely a Rooney/Tevez/Torres trio that you transfer in and out depending on fixtures, (obviously only having one of the trio at a time!), should score as well or higher, since you will be taking a larger proportion of these guys good scores, instead of simply just playing Drogba every week.

Yeah, and then you can keep Malouda, (who I think offers slightly better value than Drogba considering he has almost as many points), and you free up 2 million to improve your defence/midfield/other two strikers.

Yeah, but you're doing a 4 point hit anyway, so really it's just an extra 4 points, and Hernandez can make that back up.

Fabregas (C) should make up the hit on his own, so the others you just get to switch for free and see what happens really.

i prefer drogs, but if i had malouda at starting price, i would keep him

there is always that 10% rotateion risk hanging over malouda, which is a is not good for such an expensive player (altho you could argue that once drogs starts playing CL games he may also be a rotation risk around CL games)

a lot can change in 3 gameweeks tho, no doubt fabs will be injured again by then. also, will RVP be back? if so, he is potentially a major bargain at less than 10m, and i think everybody will be rearranging to get him in.

Nah, I noticed that earlier on this evening when I checked your team out. You were just ridiculously unlucky. If you play the fixtures, most of the time you will be fine and won't get caught out.

I benched Routledge and Jose Enrique away at Everton, they scored 6 and 5 points, but I don't regret benching them, that's just how it is.

And at least with Nasri doing well, he will experience a value surge, which will give you more dough when you eventually boot him. Your 11 that you initially selected, would have scored the same points, whether Nasri got 14 points, or only got 2 points, so your gameweek is the same either way, but at least this way you get more cash. 🙂

I think it's just you and I that think Silva will do well. I wanted him the moment his move to City was announced.

He's scored and got a couple of assists in the Europa League, he's starting to find his feet in the Premier League, I fully anticipate him being a goals and assists machine some point soon. The guy is class, my only criticism of him is that he is perhaps a bit lightweight, but he more than makes up for that with his skill and trickery.

It's a shame that he didn't make more of an impact during the World Cup, too much competition to play for Spain I guess. Fabregas didn't do much in the World Cup either, so it's no shame on David's part.

Fixtures aren't great and you already have 3 defenders worthy of starting most weeks (Bosingwa, Boateng, Elmo) I would say Konchesky to Simpson (but not for a hit) to free up cash. But make sure you have a decent option to call upon when Bosingwa doesn't play, that's what I'll be doing.

will do the famous Malouda to Fabs transfer as my freebie. My question is with regards to my defence. It looks shocking. Any advice is much welcome?

Yeah, thats the plan it just looks shyte. Jones is not very exciting! Still unsure of whether to do Malouda to Fabs or downgrade Berbs and do Bale to Fabs.

Notice no use of stupid arrows RBJ!!

Adam, Cech & Varney. All rose in price.

Fletcher went down. That could be interesting.
