Gameweek Nine saw 256 fantasy managers battle it out in the second round of the Fantasy Football Scout Cup III, sponsored by Paddy Power. Those involved surely know the outcome of their own fixture, so to see how everyone else faired this round click here.

If reading the results James Alexander Gordon-style isn’t for you, then read on for the round highlights. However, before I get onto listing the key outcomes, I have to bring you some tragic news… I am no longer involved in the competition, after a 51 – 40 robbery against JohnSteed01. A minutes silence will be observed before the round three fixtures.

One Fantasy Manager who might be able to get over that news is The Plutocrat who, after his 74 – 40 annihilation of timboeve (the widest margin of victory in the round), earns himself a free £25 bet courtesy of Paddy Power.

Just missing out on the prize was rajmanutd who, along with chipsngravey (in a very northern outing), was involved in the highest scoring tie of the round, as the former prevailed 70 – 59.

At the other end of the spectrum was billyboychrisd‘s 37 – 33 victory over dadoune. Which wasn’t the lowest score jammy enough to win this weekend however, CarlowsGalacticos‘ narrow 36 – 35 ousting of Dino wins that award.

That was one of eleven match-ups decided by a single point, which included greghammer95‘s 53 – 52 win over hello 911 it’s quagmire….

Three fixtures went down to the tie-breaker of overall rank, which saw bossdrum, Chris81 and targa eliminate Clive, Burton and Mattenue respectively.

Contrasting fortunes for our former champions sees donnellyc marching on, thanks to a 40 – 31 victory over ham5ter, and Jonty doing one, as a result of his 55 – 48 loss at the hands of Ann_der_roo.

Granville is now the only contributor to have a berth in the tournament, as he saw off wolves_simmo with ease 50 – 32, with Pure Olivia (46 – 40 Ty_Durden67) and I getting beat.

So now we are down to 128, just 10% of everyone who entered the competition. They will learn of their opponent on Thursday when the third round fixtures (to be played during GW10) will pop up on the site.

Well done to those awaiting that fixture list (not you JohnSteed01), and commiserations to everyone bowing out this time round (some with more grace than others).

    Chaps, couple of questions.
Is Fabregas going up in price yet?
And is Coleman under threat from Pinnear?

    Cheers!

A tea bag for a very weak cup of tea lasts longer in the cup than me.

You would have been quite safe betting everything you owned on a 1st round exit for me. Miracle i even qualified to be honest with you.

The news that Tevez should be ok is making it very hard to get Fab in my team.

Those dropping Malouda will regret it IMO, the guy is very consistant. Leaning towards sacraficing Nani, UTD dont hammer teams like Chelsea.

greghammer95 posted a very persuasive argument about ditching Malouda for Fabs a couple of days ago. I urge you to read it. If anyone has a link please put it up here.

My humble opinion is that Fab is a necessity and chelsea are not hammering teams as much as they were last season. Man Utd do well over winter traditionally and Nani is their best player. Malouda is not Chelsea's. I'd prefer to ditch Malouda than Nani any day of the week. In fact towards the end of this week I will be.

Would rather have Fab than Malouda. Malouda being in 45% of teams and Fab in just 8% is another reason.

Big gains to be had by having Fab instead of Malouda, big evens to be had by having Malouda instead of Fab.

          "same points"

On the plus side if u had Malouda captain all the time instead of Drogba u would gain more points.

I am going through same thought process Daniel. Problem is that there is so much more choice in midfield than attack, ie there are about 10 candidates for my Midfield slots, only about 4 for my attacking slots. Which is why Malouda may have to go.

Kids and reserves mate, yet to be officially confirmed but I imagine it will be largely as the side that took on Chelsea. So along the lines of

      ...............Krul

      Perch...Campbell...Williamson...Ferguson

      R.Taylor....Vuckic...Smith...Routledge

      ..........Lovenkrands..Ranger.....

T'would be summat like that anyway, the 'big guns' such as they are will be rested for the upcoming Arsenal game.

I would say yes as Bent scores whatever the fixture. You dont need Sunderland to win, just for Bent to score, and he does.

Plus it gets Fabs in for Bale who seems to be drying up on the FPL points

Has Malouda ever scored a hat-trick before?

That's the risk you take when you sell players, you have to weight up the odds and also accept things won't always necessarily go as first figured.

You play the odds and likelihoods, and hope Jesus/Santa/Shiva/Allah/Noel Edmonds/Sideshow Bob do you a favour. It might be annoying, but I myself would make the trade again and again if given what's in front of me, so ...yeah. Fabredoodle all the way.

is it worth taking an 8 point hit to get rid of Scholes and Carroll to allow me to bring in Nasri and Varney (all I can afford)?

    Will give me in midfield

    Nani, Malouda, Nasri, VDV, Brunt

I would captain Nasri for this week

I wont be playing Varney though, he will be a perma bencher. I have to bring him in for Carroll to allow me buy Nasri. So it's whether captaining Nasri will get me significantly more points than Carroll would do ie 10+

        Team would be

        Foster/Hahnemann
        Cashley, Elmo, Coleman (evatt, baptiste)
        Nasri, Nani, VDV, Malouda, Brunt
        Drogba, Tevez (varney)

I have 1 free transfer and 0 cash, but torn between:

    1: Nasir < VDV
    2: Bos < Oshea

if I sell VDV I wont be able to buy him back easily. would it be too many eggs in a Ars midfield?

    Currently team is:

    Foster

    Elmohamady/Jose Enrique/O'Shea

    Fabregas(C)/Van der Vaart/Malouda/Nani

    Carroll/Drogba/Berbatov

What do people think to this plan?

    GW10: Bale & Alex -> Fabs & Coleman (4 point hit)
    GW11: Tevez & Etherington -> Arteta & Elmander (4 point hit)
    GW12: Nolan -> VDV
    GW13: No transfer
GW14: Carroll and Jones -> Ameobi & Bosingwa

    would leave team of

Foster, Jaask, Bosingwa, Coleman, Williamson, Foley, Jara, Fabs, Malouda, Nani, Arteta, VDV, Drog, Elmander, Ameobi

Are you guys keeping hold of the big man?

Hes been one of chelseas best players this season but worried when he is actually going to play. Will he be risked against Blackburn and Liverpool away isnt the best of fixtures to come back in.

Are Terry and Ashley the only chelsea sure starters, or can we expect to see Alex most fixtures when hes fit?

Ah I see alot of people are contemplating 4 point hits or even the selling of Malouda in order to get Fabregas in their teams.

I don't see much wrong with a 4 point hit for Fabs. I've taken one which leaves me been able to get him in for Yaya Toure so am happy. I did plan for Fabs though, but it was based on him being fit for Birmingham so it changed slightly, hence the 4 point hit (my first hit of the season).

12 point hit is pretty severe mate. I'm considering an 8 pointer and it's making me wince at the thought of it, but you'll be lucky to get those points back on your defence but I guess Sagna could keep a clean sheet this weekend so you with your first option you could clean up on the points, especially captaining Nasri

big risk though and leaves you heavy Arsenal

NEVER take a hit for an Arsenal defender, madness! It's typical of them they kept a cleanie at City when u might not have played but they didn't against Blackpool, WBA etc when u probably would play him. Can definatly see them conceeding in the next two.
