Tuesday’s pass over the Watchlist player rankings (in your frontpage sidebar) reflect our findings from our recent “Frisking” of the fixtures. Chelsea’s improved run of opponents have their key assets holding on to their lofty positions, while Nani remains unshakable in the Midfield rankings.

For potential differentials, we’re looking to improved returns at both ends from West Ham and Spurs, the set-piece threat of Bolton’s Gary Cahill and a change in fortune for Stoke’s usual suspects.

The Keepers table shows some significant movement this week. Robert Green’s heroics at the Emirates, coupled with a kind run of opponents for Avram Grant’s side, have the much-maligned West Ham stopper climbing up our rankings. He and Tottenham’s Heurelho Gomes appear to present two new viable mid-price options for those Fantasy Managers looking to freshen up their goalkeeping spots. Save points and the potential of clean sheets look on the cards for the pair, providing a viable alternative to Chelsea’s Petr Cech who holds at top spot thanks to a couple of Stamford Bridge encounters to come in Gameweeks 12 and 13.

The Defender rankings show little change. Nemanja Vidic replaces team-mate Patrice Evra in our top five off the back of his goal and Bonus Points in Saturday’s win over Spurs. Bolton’s Gary Cahill and West Ham’s Manuel Da Costa are the big climbers. The pair enjoy decent opponents in the coming weeks and, as the dominant defenders in their respective back fours, they’re also in the hat for Bonus Points; Cahill adds significant goal threat from set-plays of course.

Further down, Alex replaces team-mate Jose Bosingwa who pays the price for the threat of Branislav Ivanovic for his starting role. Tottenham’s run of three home games in four, from Gameweek 12-15, is reflected in the presence of full-back Alan Hutton as a new entry in our rankings. Stoke’s Ryan Shawcross is also worth monitoring and is a significant climber further down the rankings. Tony Pulis’ side are lacking form and clean sheets, but the fixture list smiles on them going into December; sooner or later Shawcross is going to make his presence felt at set-pieces. Expect a further climb for Shawcross once the trip to Sunderland is out of the way this weekend.

The Midfield rankings enjoy some movement but the names remain familiar. Nani continues to justify his top placing following another big haul against Spurs last weekend. Below him, Florent Malouda is beginning to look fragile and badly needs to find form if he is to hold off the challenge of Rafael van der Vaart, Kevin Nolan and Gareth Bale. All three have decent fixtures to come over the next six, plus stronger form on their side.

Blackpool’s Charlie Adam and West Brom’s Chris Brunt hold firm, with Mikel Arteta climbing just behind them following another maximum Bonus Point haul in the win over Stoke. Lower down, Clint Dempsey enjoys an ascent following his brace against Wigan, although his fixtures hold him back from a more prominent placing.

Stoke’s Matt Etherington ranks above him – like Shawcross, you can expect a continued rise for Gameweek 12 when the Potters begin a run of three home games in four. A word also for Wolves’ Matt Jarvis whose form has him entering our rankings this week, despite difficult opponents in the next two. Expect a climb from him from Gameweek 13 onwards when the opposition softens.

The top three in the Forwards rankings remain unchanged with both Didier Drogba and Andy Carroll earning assists at the weekend to keep their totals ticking. Dimitar Berbatov has gone quiet, but with Carlos Tevez out of the frame through injury, these three hold firm with decent fixtures to come.

Javier Hernandez enjoys a big climb as the talk of a prolonged absence for Wayne Rooney continues. Below him both Fernando Torres and Darren Bent enjoy an upturn in fortunes as we back their class against some testing opponents in the coming weeks. Kenwyne Jones is perhaps the most interesting prospect further down our rankings. Stoke’s run of kind opposition is once again the catalyst here, and Jones looks well positioned to boost his goal tally in the month ahead.

Lower down the likes of Shola Ameobi, Victor Obinna and Yakubu provide strong differentials. Ameobi should enjoy another climb ahead of Gameweek 12 once the trip to the Emirates has passed, while Obinna, along with team-mate Frederique Piquionne, offer good potential given West Ham’s run of fixtures. Yakubu looks more of a gamble given the threat from a fit-again Louis Saha but a first goal of the season against Stoke will surely have boosted his confidence ahead of a continued run of decent opponents.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

VDV interview is on now. He's saying he trained yesterday and wasn't 100% yet. Then at the end of the first half he felt something again and went off as a precaution.

different kettle of fish though v bolton compared to a mahousive inter milan game. one positive is it's the 12:45 kick off on saturday and it's an away game for spurs so there could easily be news whether or not vdv has travelled before the deadline

Spurs are always one of the best with team news, 'Arry is many things but one is generally up front on the state of play of his squad ahead of the upcoming match.

There's not much build up, but he's fairly transparent in his conferences the day before.

Exactly. I don't know why English fans 'wish' so many Welsh players were English, but never seem to with Scottish or Irish players.

Wales might be rubbish, but it doesn't mean you can't still be proud of representing your country.

well, when it comes to the bosses in uk football, you know the score. we're not producing the players anymore but we still produce decent managers. welsh football is stronger than theyre recent results suggest. they pumped scotland the last time we played them in Cardiff.

Wales could do with a good striker and centreback, and maybe a midfielder to complement Ramsey (hopefully that will be Collison).

And also a good manager, the one thing you don't need to produce yourself. Can we borrow one of yours?

I do like him as a guy, but I'm not sure he's going to be an improvement on Toshack. In the Bulgaria game, he played a centreback as defensive midfield and it was a disaster. Then the next game, Switzerland away, we played much better and unluckily lost 4-1.

This type of thing happened repeatedly under Toshack, so things won't change. Someone new with recent proper top level experience is needed.

during his last interview it seemed apparent that the welsh managers job is a poisoned chalice, toshack and also bobby gould said much the same thing but at least he seems to have a bit more respect from the welsh f.a., players past and present. Maybe he does need someone else to assist him but I dont think its all doom and gloom, i think its quite the opposite. Ramsey was great against scotland and ran the show. With him your a completely different team. im in cardiff mysell, thats why I asked dude.

Yeah, he's got more respect than Toshack had, that's definitely true. We miss Ramsey a lot, any of the home countries would I guess. Looking forward to having him back, and he was excellent vs Scotland.

This might be a stupid question but it's not obvious to me. Came to think of it when I read the Bale discussion above.

Most of it is historic and to do with the separate FAs I believe. The Scots and Welsh FAs don't want to lose their power/votes/influence with Uefa/Fifa. It's all further muddied by the regional politics too of course.

Right lads think it's fair to say that I've had a pretty good evening in real-world football terms anyway. Here are some Rafa-style FACTS:

Gareth Bale is the real deal. Chant of the night 'Taxi for Maicon' followed by 'Bale!, Bale!, Bale!, Bale!...' (we need to come up with a better song for Bale and quickly as he is unlikely to be at Spurs for too much longer.

Inter's defence is nothing better than average

Lennon was also very good and enjoyed a lot more space with Bale hogging all of the defenders attentions.

Kaboul and Gallas were very good (bar some dubious hacked clearances).

    But it wasn't all good...

BAE is the an absolute and unequivocal liability. Anyone and I mean ANYONE who says otherwise is an absolute and utter moron. However, BAE is not the worse player currently ripping Spurs off by drawing a salary...

That award goes to Jenas who in terms of shiteness-per-minutes-played wins hands down and has to be the most useless c**t to pull on a Spurs shirt since Justin Edinburgh. The guy is an absolute joke of a Premiership footballer (let alone Champions League) and would still be below average if he went to join Justin Edinburgh at Rusden & Diamonds. I hate the fact that despite it being one of the best nights at The Lane ever I still had to be subjected to that abject failure of a human being.

    Rant over.

Spurs were awesome tonight and showed Inter up all over the park. Very good night.

It doesn't help, however, when he's playing alongside a very slow Gallas and has to constantly cover the gaping holes left by BAE. We miss King and Dawson badly and need them back if we're to keep our season going.

Pav is fast becoming my most hated player...you could see it killed him that he had to acknowledge Bale's part in his tap-in..Pav's control is terrible, his passing is awful, his shooting is literally hit or miss..he's just an average player that's being carried by better players around him. He seems to get off on these massive "look at me" celebrations, even for the most simple tap in- in order to take the focus of his poor general play. I know loads of players do this but he takes the proverbial..Even tonight, he ran off and was giving it the pointing at his name shite before he realised everyone had ran over to Bale. Grrrrr!

Please add in the fact that he's a lazy S-O-B who won't run for anything unless it's a ball along the goal line that he can't miss. I let Pav off simply because he came on late and therefore didn't have time to get me angry... oh and he scored!

hahaha..I'll also throw in that Inter scored within 2 minutes of his arrival I think..after he had given the ball away about 12 times 🙂

Yup. Crouch for all his many faults runs his socks off for the team and at least attempts to hold the ball up. Pav on the other hand... hmmm... doesn't. He does have a good fan song at least.

Guardian had an interesting article a while go on the fact that Premier League teams know how to handle Crouch well, but other teams don't. He's actually really good outside the Premier League, and his scoring record there makes his PL stats laughable.

Yup I keep saying to my mates that Crouch should start every game for England as international teams just do not know what to do with him... they laugh at me 🙁

Was that the same article that made the silly mistake of saying Crouch isn't good in the air and good on the ground?

You're a brave man Jermaine to show your face on around these parts considering how shite you were at WHL tonight. Luckily your gravatar is suitably hard that I'm not going to mess with you.

hehe I may have chosen this username for ironic purposes.

I always loved the saying about JJ that he's "really good off the ball". Why is he a footballer then?

He's not even good off the ball any more (if he ever was). No movement whatsoever. He just seems to vibrate on the spot looking vacant.

Also worth saying that Crouch was generally pretty poor tonight and took a lot of abuse from the Spurs fans but luckily for him he scored to appease us at least

Blame him for wasting Bale for a year?

Seems odd he just left him in the reserves. I mean Bale played and did very well against Brazil when he was 16/17 so everybody knew his potential.

Arry got very very lucky with injuries.

No not really. Yes, Harry has got lucky that Bale found form at the right time for us but he really wasn't playing very well in the early days and obviously needed time to adapt. You could argue that he might not be the player he is now had he not gone through the lean period.

What I'm more worried about is how Harry handles him for the time he remains at Spurs and that he doesn't let him burn out. Having said that as he'll probably be sold very soon I'm all for milking all we can get out of him 🙂
