A five goal feast at the Britannia Stadium; whatever next? At least Rafael Van der Vaart stuck the script. The Dutchman notched once again in a disappointing 1-1 draw for Spurs, maintaining his record of scoring in every game he’s played at White Hart Lane; a case of “he started so he finished”…

Tony Pulis made four changes to the Stoke side for Birmingham’s visit to the Britannia, as he looked to stop a run of four straight league defeats. Suspension to Ryan Shawcross allowed Danny Higginbottom a chance, but the defender put in a nervy performance at the heart of the Stoke defence. Jermain Pennant and Rory Delap’s ability to fire balls into the opposition box also saw them start against Alex McLeish’s men. Robert Huth produced an impressive aerial display at both ends of the pitch that saw him grab a goal, while a moment of magic from Ricardo Fuller and a scrappy tap-in from Dean Whitehead were enough to win the points for Stoke. Sir Paulos

Birmingham brought Craig Gardner and Jean Beausejour into the side and benched Alex Hleb and Keith Fahey for the trip to Stoke. Fahey eventually replaced the Chilean winger to notch the visitors’ first goal before Cameron Jerome netted the second. Alex McLeish’s outfit came back from 2-0 down for the second time in four days, but this time their toils were in vain, as Stoke finally saw off their visitors in an unexpected goal-fest. Birmingham have now conceded 2 or more goals in 5 of their 6 away games so far this season, worrying news for Fantasy owners of Ben Foster and co. Up next? A trip to Eastlands, where Carlos Tevez awaits..Sir Paulos

Harry Redknapp made a handful of changes from the team that lost 4-2 up at Bolton just a few days ago as it was David Bentley’s turn to make his first start of the season, Tom Huddlestone was recalled back into central midfield and Roman Pavluychenko rewarded Peter Crouch a rest. Rafael Van Der Vaart also declared himself fit to play and proved vital once more when combining with Peter Crouch (off the bench at half time) to score his seventh goal in six games at White Hart Lane.

Van der Vaart continued his incredible scoring record at home then, once again compounding the difference in returns between him and team-mate Gareth Bale. The Welshman again contributed a paltry two points for his owners. Ironically, while Van der Vaart had suffered a price drop in the FPL in the last 24 hours, Bale has increased in value. It won’t be long before that situation is reversed. With his goal threat and overall contribution and influence on Tottenham’s play, Van der Vaart continues to look the far more viable option and even the most stubborn of Bale supporters will surely be making plans for Rafael.

Spurs have, rather surprisingly, scored just 14 goals from their 12 Premier League games this season and have not kept a clean sheet since the opening day of the season. Despite Van der Vaart’s influence then, there are concerns for Redknapp at both ends of the field. Jermain Defoe will surely walk back into the side once fit.

Roman Pavlyuchenko was subbed at half-time with a back in injury, while Redknapp also revealed post-match that Robbie Keane has picked up an ankle knock. Both will be doubts for the home clash with Blackburn this weekend.

Opposing manager Steve Bruce didn’t want to be bested on any fronts however and he made six changes to the team that lost to Stoke with the likes of Titus Bramble, Anton Ferdinand, Bolo Zenden, Kieran Richardson and Craig Gordon all coming in, the most notable absentee was that off Ahmed Elmohammady who was only afford a place on the bench and went unused on the night. Whether this was a simple case of rest with a deep squad at a busy time or something else, things will need to watched closely from here on in. Elmohammady had been subbed in his previous two Gameweeks prior to last night’s game – indication that his starting role is far from secure. With Craig Gordon now installed back in goal for Sunderland – Simon Mignolet’s value as a budget Fantasy proposition looks bleak; Gordon had an outstanding game on his return.

The Black Cats travel to Stamford Bridge next, with Bruce perhaps likely to stick to the formula used to snuff out Spurs in the second-half of last night’s game. Anton Ferdinand, who started at left-back, will be an immediate doubt for that game however – after limping off on 18 minutes last night.

Record signing Asamoah Gyan once again proved effective in rescuing Sunderland a point; he capitalised on a mistake between Kaboul and Gallas and duly slotted home. The likely absence of Darren Bent for the next couple of weeks should also see the Ghanaian look to capitalise on a run of games and begin to share some of the goalscoring burden. Bent and Gyan are still the only two players to have scored for Sunderland in the league so far this season.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

hindsight is wonderful... i've made some terrible decisions this season and really have missed out on about 50-60 points through poor captain choices, high scoring benches and no transfers pulling off! I'm already thinking about next season... its THAT bad

The reason is: for players who have risen above their starting price, at any point during the season, the NTO needed for a drop is the (negative) NTI, rather than 10% of owners. TotalFPL doesnt seem to have modelled this correctly - A similar thing happened to me, very irritating!

I wonder how Tevez actually "tells his friends" that he is 50/50.

Pigeon carrier would normally be my first bet but I have a feeling that with the risk of bird flu in recent years and the influx of technology, young Carlos resorted to morse code.

Or maybe he just flies his (red/black crossed out at this point but not sure how to do it) sky/blue flag at half-mast outside his house.

Cheers Twisted and Sma, I agree the matching thing is boring.

Really want RVP from around GW15 onwards. Thing is been hearing a few quotes about Walcott being converted to a striker. How true is this? Cheaper route to Arsenal forwards and doesnt take up a valuable slot in front 3 of Drog/Tevez/Elmander.

I've heard that "rumour" too, but not really sure how relevant it is or how it changes things. Arsenal play with one up top and that's never going to be Walcott so if it's true then it must be Wenger reminding Walcott that he's in the team to be a goal threat.

      Hey Guys,

Looking at switching out Dan or Jones for a similar priced defender. have my eye on Upson, Hutton or Clark. Anybody got any recommendations or other sugesstions?

      My team

      Jaaskelainen (Krul)
      Elmohamady, Simpson, Coleman (Dann, Jones)
Fabregas, Van der Vaart, Nolan, Yaya Toure, Arteta
      Drogba, Tevez (Dembele)

ack, why would you put Hutton in your team?

Because he might not play and when he does won't keep a clean sheet?

I would get Yaya Toure out if anyone

lol, it was real advice, he is quite cheap but you are relying on him scoring and I can't see Spurs keep any clean sheets for a while (they have tricky fixtures)

also wouldn't Corluka replace him at RB? :/

I'm not listening! You're trying to get me to sell someone... blah blah blah!

Yeah, that's a potential risk with Hutton but I think he's been quite disciplined defensively and is confidence is returning with his attacking runs. Tottenham aren't likely to tighten up at the back until Dawson replaces Kaboul or Gallas and Harry moves Modric out wide, so you're right - probably best to avoid for the moment.

of those 3 I'd choose Hutton, just because he's getting forward. I wouldn't want a Hammer and Clark probably won't keep his place. I don't see Corluka pushing Hutton out but it's possible I suppose

Personally, I’m waiting for him to make some cataclysmic cockup, so some sports hack can use:

I know I shouldn't get frustrated on xbox live with kids but it is rather annoying.

They died so of course we were camping (black ops), then we were "sad" because we were playing during the day. So what were they doing?!

            Malouda/Fabs/Cahill/Nani/VdV
            Drogs/Elmander/Piquionne

My current team. Am slowly dropping from top positions down thouhj, have gone from 1,4,1,1 in my four mini leagues to 4,5,2,2 and am not happy about it!
I think im taking too many point hits, so with that in mind im planning another 😀
            how does: Bosingwa-> Mummy
            Malouda-> Ferguson
            Piquionne-> Tevez
look? bosingwa uncertain of starts, malouda doesnt seem to be doing much (tho i have given him my armband this week as a mini gamble) and really want Tevez in. only other option is to drop fabs but im sure he will be bringing a whole load of points soon enough.

              No, maybe, and no.

              1. Mummy has been taken off in two matches and benched in the last. As there's no suggestion of an injury, Brucey thinks he's off the boil. Switch to Alex, or maybe have a look at Knight - Bolton's fixtures look decent.

              2. I'm thinking of shipping Malouda too, but I'd go for Cahill instead.

Already have cahill, whole point of the transfers is to get Tevez in, would you rather drop elmander than piquionne?

Could always do Bosingwa-> Cahill (BOL) or anyone else up to 5.4

dermot gallagher is a moron. that was NOT a bentley penalty, you can see clearly he goes down before the contact- sad thing is if he had kept going he would have been clear in on goal.

Agree about the Bentley incident. He was going down before contact was made and therefore looking to make contact and fool the ref. Quite right to get booked.

It's made worse by so called "expert" pundits giving their opinion as though it's gospel when all you have to do is look at the incident in slow motion and see for yourself. Something the ref (Webb?) didn't have the benefit of and still got the decision right.

damn right, the rear angle shows it perfectly, and the ref consiltant on sky and redknapp say different..sure we know why redkanpp said it anyway.

I'm selling Elmo next week. Seems the right time for me and I think he's underachieved as an OOP - points mainly from cleanies. His place definately looking a bit shaky now and no room in my team for Sunderland players that aren't nailed on. Besides, frees up cash to get Alex back in 🙂

Anyone think it's unwise to dispense with the Mummy?

Bruce made 6 changes to his team for last night's game, probably cos of 3 games in 7 or 8 days, so I don't think we can get too much info from that team selection. Kieron Richardson was playing last night...

Worth keeping an eye on, but I wouldn't sell just yet.

Ars/ManCity/ManU/Livpool/Villa/Spurs with only Chelsea this weekend of the big boys to go.

well, i don't really watch Chelsea play much but from whatever I saw of lamps playing he gave the impression of not liking to get into tackles and avoiding them pretty much. I may be wrong but that's just my observation from what i saw.

He is a good little player and very penetrative but nobody couldn't predict that he'll be played out wide and so at best you can hope for now is he gets somme assists as he can create chances.

Yeah, but he was played upfront quite a lot though. and he's always good for yellow and an odd dismissal due to his uncontrollable elbows:P . But as you said as long as arteta and cahill is there not much of a chance of being a good fantasy pick, not rite away atleast. maybe he'll come good in patches.
