Win, lose, or draw, Gary Cahill has been racking up the Bonus Points lately, with a haul in four of the last five games. Cahill’s strong performances have seen him blink once more on our Fantasy radar, while simultaneously prompting quotes in the real world about the young international claiming to be ready for a move to a bigger club. Such comments can be a slap in the face to your team-mates and run the risk of internal dissension, but at least for now they appear in Cahill’s case, to reflect a heightened intensity and commitment in every game..

With the recent win over Spurs and draw with Everton, Bolton continue to climb the table, and sit tied for sixth place on sixteen points. While there is still work to be done, the 2010-11 season has been a far cry from last year, when the threat of relegation loomed large.  Most of the credit for the turn-around this season is rightfully put down to the increased offensive output led by Kevin Davies and Johan Elmander, but the Bolton defence shouldn’t be overlooked by Fantasy Managers just yet.

Although the only clean sheet of the season thus far came on opening day, Bolton’s back four may be due further consideration given their forthcoming run of fixtures that includes four home games in the next eight outings against Newcastle, Blackpool, Blackburn, and West Brom, as well as an away affair with Wolves this weekend. Setting aside the other three games between now and Boxing Day – away to Everton, Man City, and Sunderland – Bolton could reasonably look to return around three clean sheets during this eight Gameweek period.

Team performance is only half the picture however. Cahill stands out amongst the Bolton defenders precisely because he doesn’t need clean sheets (or even wins) to provide a Fantasy return. Of course, those alternate scoring opportunities always come at a price, and the Fantasy Premier League powers placed a 1.0 premium on Cahill in comparison to teammates Zat Knight, Gretar Steinsson, and Paul Robinson. To date, selecting Cahill over other Bolton defenders hasn’t paid off, as Knight and Steinsson have scored one goal each, while Cahill has yet to find the net.  But with 5 goals last season and 3 the season before, Cahill remains a proven attacking threat on set pieces.

Cahill also has stood out during the past several years as the Bolton defender you want for Bonus Points, with 16 in 2009-10 and 19 in 2008-09. Cahill looks primed to blow past those totals this year, and already has 11 from the first 12 games.  Indeed, if you set aside the Arsenal game in which he received a straight red, and the two leagues games he subsequently sat out, Cahill has received Bonus in a remarkable 6 of 9 games in which he played the full 90 minutes, including 1 Bonus Point in the draw with Birmingham, 3 Bonus Points in the draw with Everton last night, and 2 Bonus in the loss to Liverpool.

Further to this, he actually represents a fairly decent differential. Cahill’s ownership took a substantial hit following the red card and suspension and then dwindled slowly over time as he has yet to find the net.  He is currently owned by just 4.5% of FPL teams.

da Beeeez Recognizing that it's better to be lucky than good, da Beeeez often sleeps through the early games on the weekends...

On a related question, if you've got Drogba, Carroll & Elmander in your forward line and one free trade, would you do the following:

    Elmander > Odemwingie?

Would save 0.7m for use elsewhere.

Furthermore, why offload Foster? The fixtures are kind for Brum once you get past the next couple of weeks.

Anyone watching the boxing this weekend?
Im actually rooting for Harrison. May actually put a few quid on him.
I dont think he is the better fighter but he seems to be able to get inside Hayes head and they have previous which will only suit Harrison.

Harrison gettn inside hayes head. You really are gullable DB. There best mates really, all this hype and trash talk is absolute bull to get the punters in. Any mug would be able to tell that after watching one of there press conferences. You obv not a boxing fan?

Ya im a boxing fan. Im not talking about the trash talk etc which is par for the course to build up any fight im talking about the odd statements Haye has come out with which I picked up on as strange coming from a man with everything to lose. Given that Haye grew up admiring Harrison they fight has an odd feeling about it and Hayes statements are odd
He was quoted as saying " Audley believes 100% that he is gona win , I believe if he were given a lie detector test he would pass it as he truely believes he would win it"
Then he said something like i dont know what to make of that.
From a boxing champ it was very odd. Before you slap me down im no mug, i have a base in sport psychology. Not saying im an expert of anything but Haye to me seems to be giving Harrsion far more thought than is required and is allowing the personal relationship to get in the way of the job at hand.

No no no its in the script. Haye will smash him mark my words. Its a set up fight to make some ££££ because there is no other worthy fighters in the division apart from the klitchko bros and this is just a staged build up. Two friends have fall out and feud and hey next thing you know there fightin..how convinient. Its all really really obvious if you think about it. Il be watching the fight for sheer entertainment purposes. more excited bout pacman vs margarito 🙂 🙂

Not sure marr, Mayweather makes ridiculous amounts of money without having to face the #2 p4p. He pulled in over 20 mill against Mosley, who although is pure class he's also pushing 40 and well past his best.
Don't really think money will be the most important factor in this fight being made, it will come down to whether Mayweather wants to solidify his legacy by beating a truly great fighter in his prime or if he's content earning mega money in low risk fights while telling everyone he's the greatest.

Harrison shouldn't be allowed in the ring with Haye, ridiculous mis-match Haye will walk through him. The bloke should stop padding up his record in fights that mean nothing and step up against one of the Klitschkos

I agree completly. Haye should win easily and Harrisons record doesnt merit a shot at the title.

Which makes Hayes words even more odd. Haye should win easily but I have a nagging feeling he will be distracted and it could be closer than it should be.

Haven't seen much of the build up down here in oz but what you quoted there sounds to me like Haye is just trying to justify taking a minimum risk fight for a nice payday instead of fighting the champ. Hopefully though he doesn't show him too much respect as I think Haye's at his best when he's angry.
Check out Paquiaou vs Margarito this weekend too, should be a cracker.

    interesting stat on Malouda:

Ave pts per game when Lampard's also in the team: 11.3
Ave pts per game when Fat Frank's out: 4.2

Limited sample size but interesting none-the-less. Poss Lamps picks out his diagonal runs well or something... Could be good news though with frank coming back...

    Konchesky, Knight, Jose Enrique
    VDV, Nani, Malouda, Fabregas
    Drogba (c), Carroll, Elmander
