Win, lose, or draw, Gary Cahill has been racking up the Bonus Points lately, with a haul in four of the last five games. Cahill’s strong performances have seen him blink once more on our Fantasy radar, while simultaneously prompting quotes in the real world about the young international claiming to be ready for a move to a bigger club. Such comments can be a slap in the face to your team-mates and run the risk of internal dissension, but at least for now they appear in Cahill’s case, to reflect a heightened intensity and commitment in every game..

With the recent win over Spurs and draw with Everton, Bolton continue to climb the table, and sit tied for sixth place on sixteen points. While there is still work to be done, the 2010-11 season has been a far cry from last year, when the threat of relegation loomed large.  Most of the credit for the turn-around this season is rightfully put down to the increased offensive output led by Kevin Davies and Johan Elmander, but the Bolton defence shouldn’t be overlooked by Fantasy Managers just yet.

Although the only clean sheet of the season thus far came on opening day, Bolton’s back four may be due further consideration given their forthcoming run of fixtures that includes four home games in the next eight outings against Newcastle, Blackpool, Blackburn, and West Brom, as well as an away affair with Wolves this weekend. Setting aside the other three games between now and Boxing Day – away to Everton, Man City, and Sunderland – Bolton could reasonably look to return around three clean sheets during this eight Gameweek period.

Team performance is only half the picture however. Cahill stands out amongst the Bolton defenders precisely because he doesn’t need clean sheets (or even wins) to provide a Fantasy return. Of course, those alternate scoring opportunities always come at a price, and the Fantasy Premier League powers placed a 1.0 premium on Cahill in comparison to teammates Zat Knight, Gretar Steinsson, and Paul Robinson. To date, selecting Cahill over other Bolton defenders hasn’t paid off, as Knight and Steinsson have scored one goal each, while Cahill has yet to find the net.  But with 5 goals last season and 3 the season before, Cahill remains a proven attacking threat on set pieces.

Cahill also has stood out during the past several years as the Bolton defender you want for Bonus Points, with 16 in 2009-10 and 19 in 2008-09. Cahill looks primed to blow past those totals this year, and already has 11 from the first 12 games.  Indeed, if you set aside the Arsenal game in which he received a straight red, and the two leagues games he subsequently sat out, Cahill has received Bonus in a remarkable 6 of 9 games in which he played the full 90 minutes, including 1 Bonus Point in the draw with Birmingham, 3 Bonus Points in the draw with Everton last night, and 2 Bonus in the loss to Liverpool.

Further to this, he actually represents a fairly decent differential. Cahill’s ownership took a substantial hit following the red card and suspension and then dwindled slowly over time as he has yet to find the net.  He is currently owned by just 4.5% of FPL teams.

da Beeeez Recognizing that it's better to be lucky than good, da Beeeez often sleeps through the early games on the weekends...

I've seen the trailers and it looks just like MW2. I've been way too addicted to that over the last while. I need to wait a while before I get into Black Ops!

I've got it... it's all right, but not as good as MW2. Got to wait another year before Activision are back again. The new one just feels like a step backwards. Worse graphics in multiplayer, terrible sound effects, less controlled aiming...

It's good, don't get me wrong, it's just massively over-hyped

Decided to pull the pin and play my wildcard

    So far my changes are

    Berbatov>Tevez
    Fabregas>Gerrard
    Krul>Hahneman
    Faye>Simpson

    My team is as follows

    Jaskaleinen (Hahneman)
    Coleman, Konchesky, Bosingwa (Simpson, Elmuhammadi
    Gerrard, Malouda, VDV, Ethrington, (Ferguson)
    Drogba, Tevez, Carroll

I'm tempted to do Malouda>Nani, but not sure whether I should wait till after this gameweek.

    Any thoughts?

Also, I want Cashley but just don't see how I can afford him.

Find a way to get Cashley in. Nani instead of Malouda will be fine and get Cole instead of Bosingwa.

I don't have Cole but I think he's a must have and I'll probably take a 4 pt hit this week to get him in.

        GW10: Fabs (6 points)

I don't see it as a gamble, he's not doing anything and hasn't all season apart from a lucky hatrick on the opening day. Yes it was lucky, deflected goal and freekick that should never have gone in. I have Malouda and will probably ship him out too, I don't see it as being a risk cos everyone else has them, I see it that I have a £13m striker & £10m midfielder who are getting me 2 points every week, so what's the point in having them for the sake of it.

            Its not even a gamble.

Right now, Drogs is a colossal waste of money. He has health issues for one thing and is on a barren spell.

Torres and Tevez are much better and more productive options right now. Roll on Sunday night when both Carroll and Tevez have overtaken him in the Strikers chart.

Maybe that'll stop all this silly "I can't sell Drogs, he's undroppable!" nonsense being spouted on here. "But I'll lose money on the sale!"

No, actually you'll save money cos you'll get a striker in better form and be able to upgrade another area of you team that needs an upgrade. You'll start getting better captain scores as well instead of blindly going for Drogba every week.

Malouda is another one as well. Van der Vaart £2.2m cheaper and a better points scorer. Nolan £4.3m cheaper and only 8 pts behind. And people can't drop Malouda???

I have Alex, but thinking of ditching Drog and getting Cashley in. I think Cashley is better value for money to be honest with you.

Carroll is almost half of what Drogs costs yet he's only 2 points behind him. No £4m defender is anywhere near Cole though.

So, there isn't a single gameweek without injury concerns so far for me.

This gameweek is Doyle and Da Costa. With Da Costa I haven't been able to field him since I bought him. Hopefully he will play against BPool. Doyle really could have scored against Arsenal but he didn't and now is an injury concern.

We will see but I could do without all these injuries and doubts!

Save it. You've already a good first sub with Brunt.

Malouda or Tevez as captain this week?

Slipping behind in my mini-league and most usually go for Drogba.

If you want a Drogba differential go Tevez. If Malouda scores well, Drogba probably will have too so not much of a differential. Wish I had Tevez this week myself. Birmingham are bobbins at the back right now.

Dempsey - Arteta doesn't seem to have much form. I have him and thinking of getting rid pronto

Keep the faith with arteta. Has decent fixtures after the arsenal game (which he could thrive in anyhow). Fulham have fit strikers again and I think dempseys days as striker are over for now.

Given Wolves' fixtures I'm thinking Adam -> could be a good move. Anyone agree/disagree?

You guys are a blast. I have been meticulously attempting to craft the winning team. Why am I not winning this damn thing? Slipped from 5806 - 20105 in last 3 gameweeks.

      Fabregas vs. Drogba

Thanks, Lew. Agreed - bench is crap. Funny thing is most likely sacrifice in mind is Drogba. Think most of the players in my team are delivering on value except Fabregas. There might be a good chance of Fabregas at least equalling Drogba's score for the rest of the season + cheaper. Who would you sacrifice for stronger bench?

I am doing just Arteta to N'Zog, and as Nani is one of the best FPL players for the season, I have to say yes.

No I certainly wouldn't bother. Wolves barely score and United have good fixtures after Villa (whom they traditionally beat anyway).

Both crack the code and fantasy tools don't have him to rise tonight. I think that you'll be fine to hold off at least for tonight.
