Many owners have been trying to squeeze three or even four upper bracket midfielders into their lineups this season and as a result, there has been less demand for the mid and budget price options in this area of our squads. The likes of Kevin Nolan, Charlie Adam, Chris Brunt, Joey Barton, and most recently Charles N’Zogbia, have hogged the limelight when it comes to these selections to this point, and Scott Parker and Morton Gamst Pedersen have recently staked a claim as viable options at the sub-6.0 price point.

One name that is now due a seat around the cheap midfielders table is Wolves’ fleet-footed winger Matthew Jarvis. He has shown, with some consistency, form that has threatened even the most robust defence but has suffered from a fixture list that has lent him little assistance when it comes to boosting his Fantasy points tally. In addition, Wolves have hardly been the most prolific of scorers and, while Jarvis has been a reliable supplier of the crossed ball, Mick McCarthy’s side have lacked a free-scoring striker to convert opportunities.

Amidst continued talk fluttering about a possible England call-up and a potential January transfer, Jarvis is now preparing to embark on a run of fixtures that could see him emerge with his best individual totals between now and the end of the season. Jarvis has the opportunity to impress and Wolves will face a run of opposing defences that may yet see them notch a few wins and convert some of their wingers’ creativity.

Jarvis arrives at Gameweek 13 with an unspectacular but healthy 42 Fantasy points in the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) game, having tallied 2 goals, 1 assist, and 8 bonus points for his efforts. While that total currently finds him just squeezing into the top 30 Fantasy Midfielders, his early season performance becomes slightly more respectable when you consider that Wolves have already faced Everton, Fulham, Tottenham, Villa, Chelsea, Man City, Man United, and Arsenal during their opening stretch of games.

Looking forward, the first meetings with these “stronger” teams are out of the way. As hit upon by Andy in the recent Frisking the Fixtures, Wolves now hit a very attractive stretch of 7 games through Boxing Day: BOL, blp, SUN, blr, BIR, wba, and WIG. It definitely looks like much clearer sailing ahead.

Owned by 1.1% of of the FPL teams, Jarvis is a long shot in his own right, but seems poised to take off. Alternatively, if you’re digging the Wolves’ schedule and want to gamble on an even bigger differential, you might consider joining the other 0.2% of Fantasy Managers who own Stephen Hunt. Having recently returned from injury, Hunt has yet to produce any Fantasy results in 45, 63, 63, and 83 minutes during the past 4 games, but has been a steady, if not spectacular low-priced options in seasons past.

Considering getting rid of Foster. I only really fancy Birmingham to keep CS at home and their next Home fixtures are:

CHE, TOT, NEW, MUN, ARS, AVL. As well as mcy, eve, mnu away.

Who should I replace him with?

Already have Jaask who has good fixtures. Partner?

Robinson? But I already have a BLA defender.

...Am I mad to consider Hanhemann?

I've had Hahnemann anf Foster from the start because their fixtures fit. Wolves good run dovetails with Brum's poor one.

But by the same logic if Jaask has good fixtures, why change?

Just sub Foster and play Jussi?

Anyone else finding it frustrating having to deal with the inconsistency this season so far? Chamakh is a perfect example of someone who is destined to be moved out of my team and one gameweek before, he hits 2 goals and now stays firmly nestled in my squad although there are fears of rotation, etc. Then there's Elmo who for all his promise has actually not done much as an Oop...the fact that Sunderland have maintained clean sheets really is his main source of points still...anyway..thought I would vent a little...

Elmo has 7 clean sheets, 7 bonus points (3,2,2) and 1 assist.

Not bad for a defender who started at 4.5m

Although I do agree, the inconsistency and unpredictability of this season is frustrating and as Jon Reeson said this season has probably been the most difficult so far.

About time Drogba & Fabregas started earning me some goddamn points 😉

I must agree that Drogba and Fab have both been contributors to this frustrating start...I spose patience is really essential...that and spotting a moment of form from someone cheap or otherwise is the solution...pity I must the Scholes boat at the beginning of the season...(as an example of this)

I'm putting Lampard in today, once he's in I'm forgetting about him, Drogba and Fabregas and will just tinker with the rest.

They are all top players who may have slight dips in form but it rarely stays that way for long, they are not like Aaron Lennon or Tim Cahill who can go for ages doing very little.

Rotating captains between Lampard and Fabregas is my long term plan now as they are reliable, chasing different captains each week is costing me every week.

Good in theory, but in practice... I went for Lamps, Fabs & RVP for the start of the season for the same reason - thinking "at least I won't have to fret about those 3!"

That was flawed and you are responsible for that through poor planning, ok there was nothing you could have done about Lampard lasting two and a half games before getting injured but Van Persie and Fabregas were always getting eased in after the WC.

Ok guys is time to find out how luck you feel this GW. After my gamble last GW on captain back fired, i still feel like mixing it up.

    So simple yes no answer would do;

You have no other Spurs players for a favorable fixture at home to BB, would you fancy a punt on Bale as captain?

im a red too Shtevie, but my plan would be,get him in silva now,see how he gets on for maybe 3 games, nani a long term option but i dont see us doing too much against villa. I dont think utd will start thumpin teams till Roo Roos is back in full swing so i reckon silva will have hot streaks and why not start against a bham team that still doesnt know what their best eleven is or what system they are tryin to adapt.
The minute they took off Beausejourthe other night they looked solid yet still conceded another goal.
Conceding 3 goals from OPEN play against stoke hardly inspires so i reckon Silvas time is nigh,

I can replace him for 5.7 defender, but I don't know who.

Time to do Drogba -> Tevez? Drogba out of form and Tevez with NICE fixtures.

Could be a good move. I was thinking Drog>Lamps... and get Tevez in as well.

Is it possible that Lampard could be considered "a gamble"? Shirley he'll be back to his old 7-points-most-weeks self soon enough

Just done my 3rd 4pt hit this season, hopefully will get me back on track. I've decided to put some money into my defence. Anyone else getting unstuck with the cheap defenders option?

I needed my squad strengthening, I have made the following changes

Harper > Van Der Sar (need united coverage at the back)
Jara > A.Cole (Same as above but fantastic points haul)
    Nasri > VDV

    Van Der Sar / Foster
    Konchesky / Toure / Cole / (Elmo) / (Coleman)
Arteta / VDV / (Barton (shithouse)) / Malouda / Adam
    Piquionne / Drogba / Carroll

I see Nani rose in price overnight. I was checking FISO & Fantasy tool all day yesterday to prevent having to pay an extra 0.1 for him & neither site flagged the price rise

    Grrrrrr

Complete cock up. Really unhappy with how I started. As you know, used to play with English only, so was quite overwhelmed with choice coming into this season; then seduced by the cheap defenders argument. Never really recovered. ðŸ™

Would I be a complete idiot to consider putting Kieron Dyer in my team? I have the funds to do Scott Parker, which would be the safe bet, I wanted Nzogbia but rises to Nani and VDV priced me out of getting Nzogbia.

    Current midfield

    Arteta, Barton, Fabregas, Malouda, Cleverley

    Proposed midfield

    Vdv, Nani, Fabregas, Parker/Dyer, Cleverley

Yes. Noble/Parker/Cole/Piquonne/Obinna/Costa/Green only possibles from the Hammers, imo - and Noble's recovering from an appendix operation.

Looking to get some MCY exposure in exchange for Alex - who would you go for?

Long-term I'd probably think Kolorav, but for now is Boateng guaranteed 60mins, or is Zabaleta a better bet?

Well I can guarantee you one thing.. you wont be able to swap Nari and Bale for VDV and Torres 🙂

I'd hold onto Bale for one more week, well thats what i'm doing anyway, its his last chance saloon. I'd agree with getting rid of Nasri though, especially if you have Fabregas?

Not sure on VDV now. After this week spurs have a torrid run and spurs are pretty pants. They have not won a tough away game since around 1912 and show little evidence of changing that.

My first priority is to get a high profile defender. Do you think I can go on without Cashley as all of my rivals have him, Chelsea has bad fixtures to come and I have to make up ground? Vidic is the one that comes to my mind.

Who do you think will score more points this week?
    A)Knight, Arteta
    B)Vidic, N'Zog

What about Milijas instead of Jarvis? Plays more centrally, less crosses but more shots to goal and nowadays more sure starter? Who's on penalties and freekicks?

Planning to do this week Essien -> Milijas (or Jarvis), next week Ferguson -> Dempsey and GW 16 Dempsey -> Essien. Is Essien's three match ban official? Original plan was just Ferguson -> Milijas (or Jarvis) but then Essien took control of things.

Milijas is still not a certain starter though and always likely to get subbed early. Should be on pens though.
